Body in Progress Journal Entry

I couldn’t go to the gym on Saturday, so I decided to do a power walk instead. I’m still not at the fitness level I hope to be but by exercising everyday, I hope to get there soon. In fact, I hope that by December I’ll not huff and puff to run up any stairs! That’s my goal.

There’s a trek that I do with my kids as exercise for all of us. When they come with me, they ride their bikes, or roller skate, or even sometimes walk. They can’t do the entire trek though because it’s a mile and a half one way and the same upon return, so in essence it’s 3miles of walking. They’re usually pooped about half way and so I usually turn back and we would have walked for half hour; and that’s still a good work out itself.

However, this morning was my ‘me’ morning and nothing was going to stop me! So I put on sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, comfortable shoes and clothing and off I went. [on a side note to myself I reminded me to get a pedometer!] I stretched a bit before I began, then I started off slowly. There was only one couple who were jogging and me. Once I hit the corner where I will go into that ‘trek’ I began to move more quickly and with hip swinging rhythm.

It was a gorgeous morning and it wasn’t too hot yet which was good. Cars swoosh by me because that stretch of road didn’t have any traffic lights in the middle of it, just at either ends and since it was the weekend they tended to go fast. There were homes all around me, but there was still nature to enjoy. There were sections that were wooded with tall trees and green brushes and there were two lakes, so I had a bit of nature too.

I kept up my swift pace and wasn’t out of breath at all, which I was proud of. I could feel the muscles in my thighs working and my calves flexing. Oh I so hope to get my legs back! My overindulgence was causing me to have cellulites and boy oh boy I don’t like those things!

That thought made me push my legs forward with more strength, moving my hips with more gait! I looked at my watch and I have been walking for 25 mins. I got to the end of the trek and stopped for a moment looking around me. I saw cars coming and going.

One guy and his big truck, it was a medium sized two-door pick up truck on really big wheels, overtook someone, while blowing a horn that sounded really disgusting, it was like a big rig horn blasting in the Saturday morning, I guess trying to scare the person in front of him. He was wrong too because the car in front of him slowed down due to someone turning! Some people! He could have caused an accident!

I shook my head and turned around to continue my walk back the way I came. I began walking again in rhythm, keeping up my pace. The sun was out full force now and boy was it beating on me. I twisted my cap so it didn’t hit me full in the face. It was hot!

I was getting tired, I could feel my body screaming, not too loudly, but screaming. Whatever I do when I exercise the one thing I know not to do is to over do it. I’m trying to get fit, not give myself a heart attack. So knowing the limits you can put on your body is key.

When I was almost at the end of my trek I heard someone call out to me. It was my husband. He had a flat tire and was going to fix it. Oh no I said to myself. Not a good start to the day, but then I thought, good thing it didn’t happen when we were all in the car (we had plans that day).

I continued with my walk. At the end of my trek I walked three miles and it took me one hour and 15 mins.

Cardio workout = 75 mins.

I was too pooped to do anything else! Whew!
