I travel the same road to work day after day and generally at the same time of day. I get passed by the same people in the same rush day after day.

The lights on these roads are all timed with the speed limit. You can't beat them unless you drive in excess of 15mph over the limit consistently. I now consider it sport to block their routes around cars.

The few who do get by only have to look forward to seeing my mug in the rear view mirror at the next light.

Bad drivers outnumber the good ones in every state now. Trust me, I see them all over.

This morning I was cruising through a 55mph construction zone with my cruise set right at 55mph. There was a trooper directly behind me doing the same speed.

In my mirror I see a dark colored car coming up fast in the left lane. This idiot blows past the trooper and then me. Naturally the trooper hit the lights and siren and jumped out after the moron.

I chuckled as I watched them be pulled over. What an ass. He would have gotten to wherever he was going much sooner if he had been driving the speed limit.

I won't claim to never go over the limit, but if I do it's only about 5 mph and never in a work zone or in a town. Speeding through a work zone is not only expensive but damned dangerous.

My son loves to see those! And he is only 13. Hopefully in 3 years, he will be as wise.

Most of it boils down to impatience. If only people would stop and think before they put their foot down.

I'm so glad the trooper was there! I wish there was one nearby when that moran did what he did too. The sad thing was, he wasn't the only one, two other cars did it too. I was so waiting for one of them to get stuck. Not a good thought but to think what could have happened with them doing that, I'm so glad they didn't though!

Neither will I. I've gone at least 10 mph over and I quickly tone down my speed. What was my hurry? None, I have no excuse. So I usually try to be very aware of that speedometer and drive within the limits. I want to get to where I'm going. Now when I go at least 5mph over, everyone else thinks I drive too slow. How can going 35 - 40 in a 35 zone, where there's no one else but you going too slow? Tell that to the crazy driver who comes up behind me then makes a mad dash only to meet up at the traffic light!

Oh I hope so too Doc. I have a seventeen year old who is not driving yet. And she bemoans that fact because all her other friends are already driving. I told her not to rush it. We're going to do it the right way. First the classes, she learns the road signs gets her permit, then we go on the road, possibly with a school. Oh no, she wants to do it the way her friends did, taking the test online then getting the permit then in the car. Uh uh. not on my watch!

Well, maybe natural selection will kick in and there will be less crazy people on the road. I've done my share of questionable driving...but I never speed on public streets especially on highways and in towns. Country roads close to my house are where I turn loose...but that's only on straightaways once in awhile.....I'm not really a speed demon, mostly because my poor ol' car can't handle it.

Understandable, and good, and good!

I do all my driving in the Baltimore-Washington area and and work third shift so I do get to avoid most of the mayhem but it's there even at night.
There's plenty of signage along the roads stating that "agressive drivers will be prosecuted". My $0.02 is that's bull! simply because there's no
$$$ in it for the "gummint". Static and rolling radar traps are the money makers, road safety be damned. My take would be *immediate* impound of the driver's
vehicle and a minimum of license suspension;hell I've enough stupid and dangerous driving that in (my) perfect world would warrant road side "hit squads" to clean up
the gene pool. Now that would improve driver responsibility!.

I can tell you've had your share of those 'nuts' out there! It can be frustrating! What always gets me is the one that thinks you're going too slow, while going at least 5-10 over the required, and passes dangerously close between you and the other car in the other lane, gets in front then slows down.

Personally I think that the cops should be able to pull over the especially stupid/dangerous drivers and beat them senseless with their night sticks right there on the side of the road.

Well you have made a few very excellent points. True some drivers are dangerous in plain English. Others are more responsible. Some drive drunk and then end up dead or in jail for a few days. Others end up killing other people as well or causing huge amounts of damage.

I have lived in Asia for the past 16 years. Taiwan, Japan, S Korea and presently in China. The drivers in Japan are rather good and do obey the rules of the road. The same for S Korea. Now as for Taiwan and China you might as well forget it. They are horrible plus they do not observe what rules they have in driving from my observations. The police do their best in Taiwan but for China they try bu people just do not get it.

Taiwan has many motorbikes and some race around like they own the road not caring for anyone. Car drivers are the same. In China forget it. Even in some of the bigger cities where I have been to they are just plain stupid when it comes to operating a car and do not obey the simple rules. Not stopping at times for a red light, cutting you off on city strets and not stopping for people crossing the streets. Dangerous as hell but they do not care.

So the best thig for me is to not drive and pray that if I am on a bus or in a car they get me there in one piece.
