Help - need tips....

On how to develop my speed! Most times when I'm playing, I have my kids or my hubby around me, and they are distracting. No matter how much I say, don't talk to me when I'm doing this, I want to increase my speed. OK, I've learned to tune them out and that helps!LOL!

There are times when my computer at work, I usually play after 5pm if I do play at work, or at 12pm when everyone is out to lunch and the phone doesn't ring for an hour, I get the chance to relax and give it my undivided attention. Although 99% of the times, I do play at home. Nothing that I do helps me with my timing! It sucks! I tell ya, there are times when I have 114 secs and when that does happen, admittedly, it's because my computer will sometimes mess up! Ack!

But my goodness, some of the regulars have such speed I'm wondering how do you guys do it? Seriously! Do you just randomly choose your answers, and hope you're right or what?

I'm beginning to think that maybe I"m too much of a slow reader. That must be it. I try to be careful with my answers because I've messed up before and either responded with the wrong answer or I select the wrong letter as my answer and that's usually annoying!

So far, I've not been doing too badly, although I'm not Number 1. Last month I managed to stay in the Top 10, and had I think 3 games with 10 answers correct, although I wasn't the Number 1 person at the time, you guessed it, because of my speed!

Take a look at tonight's (Wednesday night) game for me:

Player Award Correct Seconds Score
1. Muad'Dib + 8 pts 10! 37 963
2. DemosLocke + 7 pts 10! 47 953
3. fbaggins + 6 pts 10! 48 952
4. DaneelOlivlaw + 6 pts 9 38 862
5. drguy + 6 pts 9 52 848
6. locamama + 5 pts 9 58 842
7. Serenity + 5 pts 8 86 714
8. Zoologist03 + 4 pts 7 41 659

I'm number 7, only because I got 8 points tonight. Last night I did better, I had 9 points then. But look at my speed tonight - 86 seconds! Look at everyone else...they are way, way, faster than I am! Come on guys share some tips with me. I don't play a lot of on line games, when I do it's usually Mahjong because that's the game I love the best. As far as my gaming (PC gaming that is) goes, I play Solitaire, Spider Solitaire, Mahjong and Pacman or Pacwoman! Sometimes Sudoku and maybe other games that will help me with my dexterity with the mouse!

My son has tried to get me into his kinds of games but I'm hopeless and I do it just to be involved with what he does, plus he enjoys when I play his games. But he's way, way, way above me!lol!

This past weekend (on my son's birthday nontheless!), I scored the Number 1 position, and on that "yeah me" day, there were hardly any players, hence, the turtle won the race because I scored the only 10 with a speed of 87 seconds!

Date Winner # Players Wins Winning Score
Aug 28 07 drguy 1011977
Aug 27 07 drguy 6 11 958
Aug 26 07 locamama 3 1 838
Aug 25 07 Serenity 4 1 913
Aug 24 07 Muad'Dib 6 2 951
Aug 23 07 drguy 9 11 966
Aug 22 07 fbaggins 10 5 940

Aw well, I'll keep on playing because I enjoy it and it's fun but it would be nice to be on top with my speed! If you haven't played yet, check out InBloom's blog, she started it and now quite a few of us are addicted! Thanks Rose, and I say that in the nicest possible way!LOL!

[Note to readers, I'm trying my hand at creating my charts in HTML writing (that's how I say it right?) so, the first one, no codes, the second one with codes, so if it's a mess, that's why! My self-lessons continues so bear with me!]"

Often (not always), you can look at the answers and yes, guess the right one.  But if the answer does not jump out at you, you have to look a thte question.  But there again, looking at the first few words will connect the answers to it and you can answer - without reading the entire question.  It is only when I have to go back and read the entire question that my scores sink to the 60s and lower.

When I can look at only the answers, often due to multiple repeats, that is when I get the low 30s and better times.  But you may notice that sometimes I have a low time and only 8 or 9 right.  That is because my method misses things like the word NOT in the question.

One final suggestion.  If you have no clue, dont waste time on it.  Just pick one and go on.  Like who was the leading scorer for manchester United (or some such thing I have no clue on).  I just pick a name and dont think twice.  Chances are it is wrong, but then spending another 10-20 seconds on it is not going to give me the answer anyway.

I need to work on getting those few right that always seem to elude me.

Oftentimes, you can deduct the answer without fully reading the question. I will skim through the question for key words and then pick an answer. Rarely is trivia actually trick questions, its the nature of trivia. Its "trivial", not tricks. For instance, just making something up, if you see the words "National Football League" in a question, and the multiple choice answers are: A. the Cubs, B. the Bears, C. the Phillies, and D. the Penguins, Im gonna pick B and move on I could care less what the actual question asks.

Yeah, I've learned that trick!

This is my downfall!

Yes, and you're so good at it - the quiz!

Nice tip! I'll try that!

Ha, we're drinking from the same pipe!! [as in water, my cultural references and not smoking as in the American reference!

I try that sometimes, it works half the time for me.

That's a neat trick! I'll try to use that too!
