I know so many Black successful people and many Hispanic ones as well. Hell I work for a Mexican company, 3rd largest in the world in it's business. Within the company there are many black successful men and women.

The ones who bug me are the ones who wish to keep the stereotypes alive, and I am not talking about the people who use the stereotypes, but the ones who are being stereotyped.

When a way of being is all that is known, I guess they will "milk" it.  And when it keeps being thrown at you, I guess it will be "milked"!

 

A series like the CNN special report is good because it helps the black Americans themselves to open their eyes and look at where they are and what they are doing.  There is nothing like self-help and seeing others like yourself succeeding because they are not "sitting" and whining and blaming someone else.

Some are finding progressive ways to get out of poverty, even though it may be a fight.  It is good to see determination in some black Americans, it isn't just the blacks from elsewhere who has this determination, they do too.  It may not be all of them, but some do and that is a good thing.

 

It sometimes is sad though that even some things that prortray positiveness still gets ignored, no matter what.

Yea, I want my fellow Americans to improve themselves, all of them. I care about humanity, but I tend to care about my fellow Americans more and would really like to stop all this non-sense, including some much division when it comes to politics. I mean, it's one thing to disagree with someone over a political issue but do we need to have such a dislike for opposing views to the point of disliking people simply because they are of a particular party? Can't we just disagree and move on and let the political process decide what goes?

Can you imagine if we applied this same kind of dislike and anger for opposing political views to everything in life? People would hate each other because the New England Patriots beat the New York Giants? People would hate each other because one things that Romano's Macaroni Grill is better than The Olive Garden and the other thought the opposite? can you imagine our children not liking the kid next door just because they eat at McDonalds but ours prefer Burger King? This whole idea to hold on to ones heritage creates a barrier that keeps people from seeing each other as the same. We are all American's here (those born here or made citizens I mean) regardless of our birthplace or our ancestors birthplace. Why so much dislike and separation from one another?



Well, people always forget the good but never forget the bad.

I remember wanting to watch this when I saw the commercials about it. I see I missed the re-airing already. I do hope they show it again sometime.

Politics and religion and I'll add money too, ne'er the three shall meet when it comes to friends or relatives, even strangers!  We humans are a fickle lot, and there are really some genuine ones thrown in!

 

I'm partial to Macaroni Grill myself! (and Burger King - love their iced coffee and grilled chicken salad!)

 

 

They've done quite a few on the achievements of "white America" all the time!  Look at the Biography series or the history channel.  Heck look at any programs and you will see the ability and the resourcefulness of "White America"!  

When programs like "Black in America" comes on it is unfortunate that it does get ignored just because it is about black america.  It is because there is such a disparity in the races why such a series does exist and it isn't just to "rub" anyone noses in it.  I learned something, I got reminded about some things.  It is what is not taught in the history books and it is a great reminder to everyone of what black in america is.  It is especially important for the blacks in America to have seen this program themselves, more so than anyone else.

 

 

I don't think this is a fair statement.  How is one forbidden to speak about it?  What is not acceptable is the continued portrayal of hate and racial injustice.  In all the years that slavery has ended it will never go away because one is reminded of it everyday.  You just have to look on a form to complete and it is there.   How can one forget about what and who they are when it is thrown at them every second of everyday?  How will it be let go?

It is not a matter of hanging on to a history, it is whether one is allowed to embrace it (because while it can never be forgotten, it can be accepted for what it was) and move on, sadly it is not so.

 

 

You know my friend, this can be said the same of all blacks in this very statement.  Is this not how most of America view most black Americans?  Is it not the way some black Americans view themselves?  This is where a program like "Black in America" comes in. 

 

 

I do understand the weariness of most of White America towards what they feel is favoritism towards Blacks, althought, respectfully to you and all of my White friends (on and off line), this makes me chuckle and shake my head, and I do admit freely that there are some Black Americans (and other blacks) who are the most heinous bunch of you know what ever..(and I've met them in ALL races) The thing is there are lots of programs about other races all of the time and we all learn from it, at least we should.

 

I've learned that it is a continuing series that features different aspects of Black American's lives, past and present, their relationships with each other and other people.  It is interesting because it does feature the stereotypical behaviours as well as you see the ones who are trying to make a difference and be that difference in their families.  Definitely one for the history books!
