Life as I Know It; Family; Lifestyle; and Healthy Living!

We are a week away from the first day of school for my children.  Adam begins high school and Amanda goes into first grade!

I've done all the usual stuff, clothes shopping for both of them.  My son is almost as tall as I am and he's going to be 14 in....OMG...two weeks!  We're planning a park visit for him!  He's grown out of almost all of his clothes!  All I kept hearing from him was, "Mom I have nothing to wear"; "Mom, my pants are too short"; "Mom, I have no underwear"!  Good grief!  I can never buy enough socks or underwear because those go missing in action!  As for  Amanda, she's transitioning from a size 6/7 to a size 7/8.  She's grown too!

So I've bought clothing, underwear, lots of socks, school supplies, school supplies, and more school supplies!  But you know what, that is never enough school supplies!  Knowing that they are going to come home with lists of what I didn't buy (I'm sure they will!) I only bought the basics, and am waiting on the teachers list of what "they" want students to supply since their Districts don't supply them with much.  I have no problem with that though, it is ashame that if the District doesn't supply it, the teachers have to buy it from their own pockets!

In between that, I cleaned up, washed and folded clothing that were wearable and bought extras socks, undies and school supplies and brought them in to work to give to the outreach program there, four large bags full!  I couldn't believe the amount of clothing that was taking up space!  [Now I've got to go through my own closet!]

Amanda had a water day at her summer camp last week.  They have been doing it all summer.  Now lo and behold, she is coughing and is very congested!  Oh no....I kept feeling her for a temperature, but so far so good. That means it's only a cold.  But the coughing was sounding horrible.  So now I'm watching and waiting to see if I will either need to rush to the ER or go to the doctor tomorrow.  Good grief, school starts a week from tomorrow!  It never failsl that all summer we have been active, she's been all over the county, and now, she's sick?!

Whyyyyyyyyyyy, does this always happen?!

We just went school shopping yesterday. Luckily, the schools here put their lists out early. One thing I did differently this year was I went through the stuff they brought home at the end of the year and salvaged what I could. It turns out a lot of items they used last year were unopened or definitely reusable (came home with unused spiral notebooks, unused crayons, still usable rulers, etc.), so I didn't have to purchase those items.

I also like that our school has "uniforms" (it's more of a dress code, but it's slacks and a polo or oxford shirt in specific colors). We can get these at Old Navy on sale for $5 for polos and $11 for slacks, or Target has them at those prices all the time. I am going to see what fits and hopefully won't have to buy too much! Unfortunately, Xavier and Orian have completely different body types, so hand-me-downs are kind of hard to do!

I'm sorry to hear about Amanda's cold. That's awful. I hope she feels better very quickly.

I can't believe Adam is about to start high school!! Time sure flies! Is he excited, nervous, or indifferent?

He sounds like Xavier with always having pants that are too short! Xavier doesn't grow much around, but he is forever getting too tall for pants. We have a hard time buying the next size up, though, because they are usually too big in the waist. I guess that's what belts are for!

You're such a good mommy, FS!

That's great!  I did the same too, but with my kids, there wasn't that much left!  I should have hidden them!lol!

That's great about the almost uniforms!  I wish they did something like that here.  I try to have matching pants or shorts in like colors that she can wear with different things. That way her wardrobe will look large!lol!   And three pairs of shoes (sneaker, sandal and closed toes) from Payless when they had the children sale here.  Hanna Montanna and Bratz and High school musical themed shoes, rules!

I won't even start on Adam!  He is sooooo difficult to shop for!  And so far, he's worn some of the stuff I bought and I'm going to strangle him!  He's very nonchalant about starting high school!  I'm the one hyperventilating!  He's so, "Oh, I don't care!"  Drives me crazy!

He's a size 29/30 or 16/18 in pants.  That's what I've had to buy this year. Hopefully they will last!  Yikes, I forgot to get a belt!  I still have a couple of days!

Amanda says she's feeling better, and I'm glad she feels better.  She however swears she is no longer sick. She is still congested though. She whined herself to go outside and play so I let her!  It's so dang hot today! Her dad is outside with her [he's working on his car] so I'm not going to worry too much! [maybe I should be!lol!]

My son threw up yesterday.  Not fun, not ever but especially not in the hot, hot summer.  He seems okay today but I'm watching him.  I'm trying to buy a few things for school here and there.  I wish I could go do the big shopping trip and get it all done but finances aren't working that way.  I got irritated with their dad because he is out buying them unnecessary toys (bribes) when they need shoes and backpacks, clothes and school supplies.  It's annoying.

Psychosematic (sp). They dread going back (some do - my son is one of them) and of course your whole mind set is a big factor in your physiology. When you are in a funk, your immune system is compromised. Fortunately, not for long. And once it starts and they get back with their friends, they "tolerate" school for the other benefits.
