Have you ever had one of those days, when you feel as if you’re wearing the wrong clothes and no matter what you do you’re not going to feel comfortable in them for the entire day? Well that’s what’s happening to me right now.

I’m wearing the wrong clothes. Oh yes, they are mine, however, this is not what I wanted to wear today. I wanted to wear Thursday’s clothes. Do you know what I mean? The clothes you wear to work on the day before the last day of the week. You do know what I mean right? No? You’ve gotta to be kidding me! OK, follow me for a moment here, and let me teach you the “art” of clothes you wear to work.

OK, so say your office isn’t super formal (like some of those I’ve worked in before where you had to be in pantyhose, or tie, and really spiffy), my office is business casual, heck, I’d say it’s casual as long as it’s clean, anything goes. No really, there are times when my office mates will be dressed very dapper and looking real uncomfortable, (hehe) and there are times when it’s plaids and khakis all around.

For me, coming out of formal dressing (from my previous job) and the “New York” style of dressing, doing business casual took some time to master. I live in Florida now, where flip tops and shorts has become the norm for most people. Oh yes, people do get dressed up here, as I’ve mentioned above, oh you were thinking people outside of my office? Yes, they do….but now we’re really getting side-tracked so keep following me.

Well, like I said, casual took some time to master, not wearing too much or too little for that matter. I opted for shirts over tank tops with pants and sometimes a skirt. That usually works for me. Sometimes I will wear jackets but never a matching suit or else that would be too formal.

On Mondays, I try to look more ‘formal’ than any other day of the week, because it’s the first working day. I usually wear a shirt jacket, (the type that can be worn as a shirt or jacket, they come in really handy) with a tank and pants and open-toed (which is ok too) heels, not too high heels. With a pair of earrings, my watch, wedding band and a bracelet I’m fond of wearing, that completes my Monday look.

On Tuesdays, White buttoned down shirt, again, worn like a jacket (ladies, go to the men’s shirt department!) over a tank of any color, and pants, (I wear mostly black pants), footwear would be white not too high heels again. They’re versatile and go with lots of things.

Wednesdays, another shirt jacket again, over tank or sleeveless blouse and pants. Yep, I’m on a roll!

Thursdays would be comfortable, not too much fuss styling. Sometimes a pullover with slacks or if I’m feeling like it, a nice skirt and flats or not too high heels. No matter what Thursday’s style is more casual but chic, because by the time that day rolls around, I’m tuckered out from both work and my personal life. Hence not too much ‘bells and whistles’, I just want to get through the day!

Fridays are always, always, dress down days. Mind you depending on what my mood is, I might not make too much effort, for me that would be not looking too put together, but even then, I somehow always end up looking “put together”; or most of the times a pair of Jeans will be the focus for me because that to everyone in my office signifies, “dressed down”.

Now fast forward back to the predicament I’m in. I’m wearing the wrong clothes. I have Monday’s clothes on! I don’t know how it happened, but it did. Perhaps it’s because I’ve had a sleepless night, of my son being sick, picking up my husband and my daughter from work (yes, the older girl found herself a job, and that’s another blog) and dealing with my four year old’s sleepless night. And on top of it all, I have bad seasonal allergies, the kind that leaves you blind and simpering for some kind of comfort!

Yep, no wonder I ended up in Monday’s clothes. And did I mention how large my breasts look in this blouse I’m wearing? Oh yes, more for people to gawk at! Ah well…..I’ll get over myself eventually, but for now, I’ll just sit and wondered where did I go wrong, even though I knew it was the very moment I pulled this outfit on!

So, how’s your Thursday going?

Well, most of the time my mind is made up for me. Grab a pair of slacks, a dress shirt, and a tie. Who cares if they really match, they will all be covered by my white coat anyway.

As long as you don't end up with one red, and one white,! Then you might have a lot to think about!

Oh, and scrubs are nicer looking these days aren't they? At least for the women!

Trudy, I would love it if I were in uniform! Makes for an easier way to dress! You all dolled up sounds lovely!

Like you, if I'm going to dress up, it's Monday. Fresh start to the new week... but also, dressing nicer gets me in the work mindset. I need that after the weekend. Something to get me back on track.

Yep!

my boss who "doesn't get" (her words) football. It's all good

Oh gee....I will stay away from this one!

The thing I'm always sure of, regardless of the day, is that my clothes FIT.

Yep, this is KEY!

There's a woman in my office who is in her late 30's and dresses very young. The fact that she dresses young doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that she squeezes herself into these low rise black pants that are about two sizes too small for her. She's constantly got belly fat and skin bulging out from in between the waist of her pants and her shirt (which is also small and rides up her back). Just not something I wanna keep catching sight of as she bends over the copier, ya know? I don't want to spend half my day worrying about how tight my clothes fit, or pulling my shirt down because it's too small and keeps creeping up on me.

Yikes, that's sad! I see a lot of them walking around here in Fl too! And I mean belly fat hanging! ugh!

I've got belly fat too, Although I wear clothes that follow my womanly curvaciousness - how's that for phrasing! - but I definately stay away from clothing that makes me uncomfortable. And I try not to dress that way at work too.

I went to a party last night and had my clothes all laid out (a la Flylady as I discovered from Locamama) but I didn't try the outfit on ahead of time. I have gained about 5 pounds since I last wore the dress (really cool black zip up by Agnis b. with black knee high boots and a black sleeveless turtleneck underneath... one of my favorite outfits) but it had a bit of room at the time. I tried it on. Yikes. I am also bloated right now so I looked like a stuffed sausage. The dress only hung right if I sucked in my gut which I refuse to do for more than 5 minutes, never mind a party.I ended up scrambling for a suitable outfit. Most of my old faithfuls made me look like I was 4 months pregnant which I'm not.

Don't you just hate that! Five pounds makes such a huge difference doesn't it?! I have some of those too, and it doesn't help when you already have some fat to put in it!! That outfit does sound like a knockout though!

I'm back home now, wearing one slipper (because I can't find the other one) and my pajamas.

Ooh, what did you wear? Didn't you go then? PJs are always comfy!

The nicer I dress, the closer it is to laundry day!

That's funny Nicky! I guess a lot of people can say that, me included! Some might even say it the other way, the worst they get, the closer it is to laundry day because they have nothing to wear!!

Work clothes Mondays thru Thursdays: Anywhere from dressy/casual to definitely casual. This attire includes nice sweaters, okay sweaters, pretty blouses, okaylooking-but-comfortable blouses, spiffy slacks, and comfortable pants.

Nice!

I probably wear a skirt maybe 3-4 times a year, but that's about it (Someone once commented that they couldn't believe I had legs since I hardly show them). When it gets warm, I do add capris (not too often) and nice open toe shoes to the mix.

That's funny!

I hardly wear skirts are dresses too, although I have a few of them.

Capris for me on Fridays during the summer and I love open toed shoes, all the time!

Oh, and I could feel Spring coming

Oh yeah, now Ive got to buckle down and do some serious leg lifts! Pool and beach trips coming up!

This is cute, ForeverSerenity.

I'll bet you always look so put together, even in your more casual outfits!

Since I don't work anymore, I am free to dress up or down as much as I want, which is nice. Most of the time I wear jeans, a t-shirt, and slippers (flip-flops) everywhere, but sometimes I'll throw on something cute like my pink pleated denim skirt (it's cuter than it sounds) and my long sleeved black v-neck shirt (it's t-shirt material and so comfy!) or my pink polo shirt and my pink chucks (with skulls and hearts shoe laces!) just for fun.

Before I outgrew my khaki shorts (which I WILL get back into!) I loved wearing those with a bright tank top and matching slippers. I love that so many places sell the colored ribbed tanks and slippers that match.

I'm really wanting to get new clothes right now for some reason. I spent a good chunk of time yesterday browsing the clearance online at GAP and Old Navy!

Back when I used to work, I tried to dress up most days. Black slacks, black suit jacket and a cool t-shirt underneath was something I wore a lot when I was substitute teaching in the higher grades. In elementary, it was usually a flowy skirt and a cute top.

When I worked for the photo studio, I was required to wear slacks and a polo shirt (and sneakers or "work shoes", I wore a pair of chunky black mary janes and matched my socks to my polos, haha)...I bought some company shirts with the logo...I had 4 of them, so I'd dress up on the day when I ran out! The time I wore my black knee-length skirt and fitted black pinstripe button up shirt (with a white collar!) and heels, everyone acted like I was an alien or they had never seen me before or something! Hehe.

Sorry to go on so long in this comment...it's a great topic, and hey, I like talking about clothes!

That's one thing I love about trucking. I can pretty much wear whatever I feel like.

Thx Tex! I love talking clothes too. I bet you look good no matter what you wear too! Thx for the complements. I must admit that somehow no matter what I throw together it does look good. I guess I just have that 'flair' ! !

I would have love to see a pic of you in that outfit! They probably didn't know what to say because you looked too good!!

Hey M! I know that's one of the pluses in what you do. It's good when you don't have to worry too much about what you wear. Drive safe now.

I was just telling this to Rose. I have shirts that I like the way they look on me and shirts I don't care too much for and I wear them Monday to Friday based on how I like them. For example the one I like the least I wear on Monday and the one I like the best I wear on Friday. I think after awhile subconsciously you relate your shirts to your moods according to those days.

Rose needs a new alarm clock and I showed her one that plays CDs. I told her that she could play a different song each day to wake her up. I told her to play her favorite song on Mondays and a song she was just okay with on Fridays and that after awhile when she would hear her Monday song like on the car radio it would bum her out cause subconsciously it would put her in a Monday mood. But if she heard her Friday song it would make her feel happy. Just like my shirts would do and maybe what your clothes do, too.

btw .. I bet the guys who run into you love your Monday blouse.

I guess I am lucky too. All I have to wear to is a work T-shirt and jeans/skirt/even shorts. I end up using my white apron as an accesory(sp)! My hair goes into a ponytail and voila, I am good to go.

I do love to get dressed up when going out with my husband though.

This was a fun article and I definitely learned a lot. Now, I know what to do if I ever work in an office. Nah...I am definitely not office material.

I tend to do that too!

That's very funny! I can just imagine her hearing her 'Monday' song on a Thursday afternoon!

heehe, yea, that blouse, which I don't wear too often can bring a lot of attention!

Kelly, an apron as an accessory?! , I guess if I had to wear one I would end up doing the same!!

Glad you did! Hmm, ya know, some people just couldn't do it, it's too "tied down" for some outdoorsy people. I can't blame them!

I do love to get dressed up when going out with my husband though.

How sweet! I do that too, but we don't go out as much. I still like dressing up anyway.
