Who was your favourite Bond?

I was just reading an article about Pierce Brosnan, the current, er make that the most recent actor to play James Bond. He's been released from the role just as all the other actors before him...Roger Moore, Sean Connery, and that other guy.....Timothy Dalton...sorry he didn't even last that long as a Bond. I know there was one other before Roger Moore...George Lazenby, but Roger Moore is where my memories of James Bond started!

I've also been recently watching James Bond re-runs on Channel 47 in my area...i.e., AMC. So far they're on the movies starring Sean Connery. I really enjoy re-watching them. I really like these three Bond men, Roger Moore, Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan. If I had to pick only one, I would choose Pierce Brosnan. He was so suave and debonair in the role of the ladies man! Plus good looking to boot! And I've loved him since Remington Steele! I have fond memories of my mom and I watching that show on television.

So I have two questions.

1) Who was your favourite James Bond?

2) Who should be the next James Bond? (here's the list of the actors being considered)

Clive Owen
Christian Bale
Ewan McGregor
Orlando Bloom
Jude Law

I've answered who my favourite is but I have to think some more on who the next one should be!

Honestly, I think Clive Owen would make an excellent Bond. If anyone hasn't seen the BMW short films, you should take a look. Definately a good contender.

Sean Connery has to lead by a head. However, Ian Fleming's actual Bond books can be really quite dark (not just car chases, babes, and vodka martinis - "shaken, not stirred"), especially the troubled, near suicidal Bond of You Only Live Twice, and I think the actor who best captured that aspect was the much under-rated Timothy Dalton. It has also been said that he most resembles the physical descriptions of Bond in the novels.

Roger Moore was already too old when he was cast, and his performances were more camp than suave (although he was great in The Saint and was apparently Ian Fleming's first choice for the Bond film role).

Of the current suggested front runners, I think maybe Clive Owen would be best.

Incidentally have you ever seen "Never Say Never Again"? - a kind of spoof remake of Thunderball made in 1983 and starring...

... Sean Connery

Jamie, are you kidding me here?! In no way would Bronson Pinchot make a good James Bond unless of course the show becomes a comedy then we can talk!

Colin Farrell does not have the Charisma to pull off Bond

Of course he does! He's charming, got the looks and can get the ladies anytime. He's also pretty good in action flicks. Did you see Swat? It wasn't really an all out action but it was a good enough show and I thought he did well in it.

Now he definitely would have made a great OO7. He passed on sometime ago and remember he's not British which seem to be a requirement.

I agree that his time as a Bond was underrated. I think he's a pretty good actor. He's just not been much in the "face" of the American public. He has been in a few films that I enjoyed though!

You're right on this. He did come of as rather campy and yes, I did enjoy seeing him in the Saint role.

Yes, I had the pleasure of watching it again recently too! This is why I'm changing my mind as to Sean Connery being my number 1 and Pierce my number 2. (no pun intended here for those with the wacky sense of humor)!

Sean Connery couldn't do one either.

Aw come on...Sean's accent and way of speaking is one of the most copied whenever any commedians do their stand ups! His diction is definitely most memorable!

Sean Connery was the best Bond. I thought Roger Moore was overrated. George Lazenby was, perhaps because not too many have seen his version, the most underrated. Pierce Brosnan was okay, meaning he didn't really suck, but he was just basically doing his Remington Steele role.

As for who should be the next Bond .. I think out of the 5 choices it has to be Clive Owen. Not even close. I hope they don't get Jude Law or Orlando Bloom.

Bronson Pinchot would make a funny Bond. But only if they filmed it as a drama and not as a comedy.

I definately agree with you on this! That's why I can't see Law and Bloom as James Bond either. They're goodlooking but not macho enough!

Brad I couldn't open this for the life of me. No Winzip on my computer and having trouble download the program. I think I've seen this before though if it's the one written by Guy Ritchie and featuring MaDonna. It's good and I didn't realise the guy in it was Clive Owens.
