On one of my blogs Link Locamama mentioned that she loved movie musicals:

My response:
I like Musicals too Loca! ANd these are some great choices, I've seen them all. I especially liked Emma and Chocolat! Muriel's Wedding is a hoot especially the part when they dressed up and sang Abba songs, my fav scene!.”

I do love them too! I especially love the older musical movies, Sound of Music, The King and I, Oklahoma to mention a few, and of course South Pacific!

I enjoyed a musical presentation on my local WMFE station the other night. The Songs of the South Pacific at Carnegie Hall – A Great Performances production.

It starred, Reba McIntyre, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Alec Baldwin and many other actors and actresses, some well-known, some not so easily recognizable.

This program was so entertaining and left me in a happy mood. Listening to all the songs which were so familiar and still so endearing to me. “I’m Gonna Wash that man right out of my hair”, “Bali Island Come to me”, “Some Enchanted Evening”, as soon as I heard them I was humming and singing along, even though I was at my computer working.

My love of musicals is due to my parents, my mom especially. In fact both parents introduced me to musicals, (and my siblings) the first time when I was 10, we got all dressed up to attend the premiere of the Sound of Music and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers when they were shown for the first time at the movie theatre in Jamaica. Since then I’ve had a love affair with musicals.

Yep, the South Pacific brought back a lot of warm, fuzzy memories for me and it was a pleasure watching them re-enact this wonderful musical on stage. They did a fantastic job too. The singing was superb! I laughed so much when Alec Baldwin, in character, dons the grass skirt and coconut bra for the scene when they were doing a musical theatre for the soldiers.

I’m sure they will show it again. Look out for it on your local WMFE station; if you’re a fan of the movie you will definitely enjoy it!

You’re in luck! I decided to Google it and there it was! So here’s some more details about the program:

My favourite musicals were Camelot and West Side Story. I still dig West Side Story, in fact. Oh, yeah, and I didn't mind the original Wizard of Oz either.
