I was at the mall recently, sitting down, and people watching. There were quite a few people going back and forth for one reason or another.

Then I realized something, all the men and young boys who passed me all walked with the same kind of ‘limp’! When they walk, either the left leg or the right leg would be carried a certain way as if they had pain in the joints or something. It gave them a kind of weird gait. It’s a gait that’s hard to describe but I’m sure you know it!

It suddenly dawn on me why they were walking like that. Each of these boy, youth or man, had one problem with their wardrobe…..their pants or shorts was belted (or not) almost or at the knee, in Hip Hop style!

That’s why they are all walking like that, with a limp. If they don’t their pants will fall off!LOL! And it wasn’t just one type of person who did it, it was everyone. Race wasn’t a factor here, nor apparently was age. Except for the more mature and/or sensible men!

I just don’t know how they do it! Some had shorts under the shorts or the pants they were wearing or they had something else underneath. The t-shirts were three times their size as well.

The other day while driving, I watched with amusement as what looked like a group of students on a class trip walked passed when I was at the traffic light. These were obviously high school students. Everyone was together and walking at the same pace except for one young man who was a couple of feet behind. He was doing his best to catch up but he couldn’t go any faster. Why? Because his pants was practically at his knees and he could hardly lift his feet to walk!

I think we have a dilemma on our hands folks. One of such pandemic proportions too.

Are they nuts? I mean, ok I understand it’s a fashion statement, and it will make the wearer look cool and in touch with the current trends, but do they have to really wear the pants so low? So low that it’s falling off even if it’s belted and it impedes their walking!

I know they’ve been wearing their clothes like this since their favorite entertainer dresses that way, but it’s really ridiculous now. There’s a way to dress that way without being half naked, which they would be if they didn’t wear shorts under their shorts or pants!

My son doesn’t dress like that, thank God! At least not yet, and I hope he never does.

It’s pretty amusing though watching the various methods each person devises to keep the shorts/pants from falling to their ankles or what they wear under the shorts/ pants they have below their waists!LOL!

I've heard that the style originated with inner city ganstas, who wore their pants very loose in order to conceal large weapons (like machine guns) in them

I didn't even know that! Thx for the education!

It's gotten so ridiculous now though that it seems counterproductive, how the hell can you run from the po-po with your britches down around your ankles?

! You're right! I can just see them trying to run!! I think the police probably prefers it this way, they can catch them better!!

this wearing of pants way down was first introduced {at least in my lifetime} in the 50's My older brother use to pants people , IE:sneak-up behind them and grab the outer seams and yank down. ha!!

Most fashion does not make practical sense.  This is clearly one that does not.  My sons do not wear their pants that way, and I hope they never do.  Tie dyed shirts are one thing, ankle hugging pants are just stupid.

Hehe, no they never do! Well, be thankful they never do. I'm surprised no one has fallen from wearing their pants that way!

Thank you, and we did! We just relaxed and had a mini feast of international snack foods, crusty bread and fancy cheeses, with some exotic wines and liqueurs. Enjoyed every morsel and moment of it, too.

That's great Whip! Now that is a celebration that I like! I'm glad you guys had fun!

FS...Now thost guys get a little taste of how it feels to wear a tight skirt...hahahahaha.

I remember when those skirts were in (80's) and I had to walk on my tip toes in mouse steps....what a dufus!

This fashion is not just restricted to USA. Young guys here in Australia also wear their jeans or shorts down low too. I've even noticed jean shops selling 'Lowriders', cut especially to sit around the middle of the butt. I think it looks ridiculous personally and if anything, reminds me more of clowns costumes than anything else.

Haha, I guess it's not! I can't imagine going into a store to buy a jeans like that! But I guess since there's a market for it the manufacturer will make money from it!

The key words here are 'make money'. It doesn't matter how ridiculous the fashion is, if it makes money, someone will produce it.

My mom lives in Houston and complains about this all the time, lol. That's the big thing for all the kids there.

Personally, I think it's stupid, but I think lots of things that people wear are stupid, so it's no big deal to me, hehe.

I do wonder though, for the kids that are involved in mischief and dress this way...how do they run from the police AND keep their pants on? Seems impossible to me!
