There probably is a lot of blogs on this already [I didn't check yet] but I'm so excited about this. I've always loved football ever since I could walk and knew that I loved it!
I'm talking Soccer as it's called by my fellow Americans. As a girl growing up on the Island of Jamaica, football is up there as a national past time, with Cricket being our number one sport. My brothers were pretty much into sports with my older brother being captain of his football team and also played Rugby as well. My hubby was also an avid athlete in his school days. His sports though were boxing, Ping Pong and swimming. I even have a cousin who was a swimming champion and several that were on the track team for our country. So yes, it's in our gene pool!
[For the life of me though my kids are not athletic. They enjoy sports yes, but they're more artistic and this does run in our gene pool too so I'm not complaining.]
But yes, World Cup Soccer begins today in Germany. Man I wish I could be there. Or even somewhere where the intensity for the sport would give you that adrenaline high just because you love it so much. I miss that, the comaradie and hashing out who your favourite is and who you want to win and just hanging out with a buddy who would enjoy it as much as you do.
The good thing is my hubby loves it and so we will keep each other abreast of what's going on and tune in to it at home on ESPN who for the first time is dedicating some air time to it - YEAH! I've been on the web and even have posters up on my bedroom door and all over my laundry room so I can keep tabs. I miss the sport because living here in America I have not kept in touch with it like I used to. [I remember as a young girl in high school, running home just so I can watch my favourite team and the gang of kids just gathering around to watch! - My fav English team at the time was Tottenham Hotspurs, and during World Cup action they were my own home team, plus Brazil, Italy and of course England]
Now I have the fever again, and I'm happy that I do.
I'm rooting for the US of course (loyalty here) and Italy and England! Hoorah!
