I was reminded about this bit of information I heard on the news last night after reading LW's article about America's First Fat Tax Link.

All pimps and ladies of the street out there had better watch out because Uncle Sam is coming to collect what he's due! Yep, people who do this for a living will soon have to pay taxes. After all they are working aren't they? Why should they be allowed to keep everything they earn? Why shouldn't Uncle Sam reap some of that benefit? Think of all the money that will go towards education and fixing the roads and whatever else our government deems necessary!

Now you boys out there who like to um...treat yourselves once in a while, or er...all of the time to those massages, you better watch it, prices will go up because of this!

Now the pimps gonna have to make sure that he lists all of his employees and hand out those W2 forms at the end of the year! No more money under the um..table pimp daddy, if this proposal passes you'll be ligit now!

Damn!  Now all the paperwork I got to do.  Death and Taxes!  A pimp cant even earn a dishonest living these days!

Seriously, I think it is stupid.  if it is illegal, I would not admit to it! "Hey!  I found this 5 gees on the side  walk!".

But then I dont think there is too many brain cells in DC.

I've been saying, ever since I found out what a red light district is, that prostitution needs to be taxed!  Good old Mn.  thinks that is terrible,  why that's the same as approving of it.  Shoot,  it's a "thing" that's here to stay.

They'll never get rid of it,  so tax the dickens out of it!

It doesn't make sense to me. Tax evasion is a crime. Why do we need a special tax evasion law for pimps? If they are evading their taxes by making illegal money, hell... that's already illegal.

They can put me in jail for tax evasion without a special law, so what'd the hinderence with pimps that they'd need a special law?

Exactly!  They are evading taxes, just like the old mafia bosses!  A new law is not going to make them comply.  And in reality is useless.  Al Capone was not convicted of evading illegal sin taxes, but of taxes period!

If you are going to break the law, you are not going to squeal to the feds about it and pay a tax on it!

If the profession is made legal, it means health and social issues associated with the industry and those who control it can be properly addressed.

any wife exposed to a deadly disease picked up from one of these wretched women, or any john that's been beaten and robbed.

Great point! This is often forgotten.

Good one IG,!

Well, that might not be totally right. If the lawmakers do pass it I'm sure they'll do everything in their powers to make sure that these pimps pay up. Enforcing the laws these days are a lot better than they were back in Capone's day. At least I hope so!

True! Some of these brothels like Whip mentioned do make sure their girls see the doctor on a regular basis. How do I know this you wonder?! I watch the ranch brothel on HBO sometimes. I forgot the name of it but it's that ranch brothel in Nevada I think. They seem to do a good job for their girls!

(makes the proposed soda tax pale in comparison. here's an idea, let whores pay for the AMA's fight against obesity. lots of fat guys can't get laid any other way.)

! Good one Sabrina!

The government is smart when it comes to taxes. Originally, they decided to tax marijuana. You had to purchase a stamp to posess pot. You had to have the pot to purchase the the stamp. So, by tring to purchase a stamp with your pot in tow you were breaking the law becuase you can't have it without the stamp.

"It's hard out here for a pimp!" (sigh).

But seriously, read the tax code, and I'm pretty sure pimps should be paying taxes. You're even supposed to declare bribes and money obtained by robbery (I admit, this was a strong deterrent to my running for public office).

Gid's Right.  Even after being busted, fined, and often jailed, the bribe takers are then hit with an income tax bill for the money they no longer have.

And the proceeds can be properly taxed, too!

I can't see enforcement being workable. No receipts, no records, no documentation of any kind. Yet another stupid Federal farce.

Exactly M. No matter what unless they're (the Fed Gov) tag and watch every single pimp and ho, getting everything they deserve, that is all the taxes paid up on everything is going to be impossible!
