And how……!

If you haven’t seen Superman Returns yet YOU HAVE TO GO SEE IT! Especially if you’ve been a lover of the idea of the man of steel since a child.

Locamama’s recent article about it was great. And like her, I won’t give anything away, but seriously, you really, really have to go see it, before it comes out on DVD.

Why you wonder? The sheer magnificence of it! It lived up to my expectations of what I know Superman movies to be. The Superman that was Christopher Reeves that is. This new guy, who bares a striking resemblance to Christopher, is really, well suited for the role he’s playing. As Clark Kent he was affable and unassuming. He had that down pat, the mannerism, the speech, the fumbling. As Superman, gosh, he aced the character in my humble opinion! I loved the way the costume he wears (er, make that the super suit) is now. They made it over ever so slightly, it looked more modern to me and boy does it fit him to a ‘T’!

His eyes, (yep, we all agree the eyes usually have it), his does. They are so beautiful, so blue, so (sigh) Superman. I was more excited than my four year old sitting beside me!

What I really, really enjoyed about the movie were the paranomic views they gave of Superman flying, up in the air, in space, in the ocean, right at you! Now I wished I had gone and seen it at one of those Imax theatres. It took my breath away!

I do agree that Kevin Spacey as Lex Luther wasn’t as you would expect him. He should have been more menacing. He was mean alright, just not menacing. You just wanted to swat him like a little fly. However, he did make the role he played as Luther interestingly enough.

I liked the surprise they gave us, which I won’t give away for those of you who haven’t seen it yet. Who would have guessed?! There wasn’t even a hint of it in any of the trailers or review, media or otherwise that I have seen or heard, and I’m so grateful they didn’t give it away! To that I say a heartfelt “thank you”!

I went not knowing what to expect, not knowing whether I would like it or not. I was going to like it, yes, cause, hey, it’s Superman, but it surpassed my expectations and I absolutely loved it!

My son gave it four out of five stars, because he said he’s a tough reviewer, LOL; I gave it five stars!

Yes,  just saw it a couple of days ago!  and loved his blue eyes,  and Kevin Spacey, imho,  was very mean and vicious in the scene where he kicks Superman!  didn't like it that his meanness was so real.

Lois Lane wasn't so good I thought.  I too loved the flying scenes,  and agree with you, don't give away too uch of the movie!

Down girl!

We may catch it. But I grew up with the other Reeve(s).  George.  Christopher just never got the spirit.  And I was really put off with his obsession with Lois Lane.  George did not allow it to run his life.  Chris did.

It has been many years since I have read the comic.  But it was my favorite as a child.  But then a 10 year old does not think of sex, just power.  So perhaps this one is back to the origins and can forget about Lois Lane.  After all, the real Superman had many LLs in his life.

Aha!  a cookie for the good and wise Dr. Guy!

dagnab it,  I"ve exceeded my limit of cookie giving today!!  ok I come back tomorrow!

I grew up with George Reeve too,  and adored him.  You're right,  10 year olds don't think about sex,  however us ladies like a tad bit of romance in a movie,  doesn't have to about sex,  just some dreamy looks, and innocent flirting is good.  BTW,  what's sex?

You can have the latest......What is his name again?

And I am no longer 10, but a man in tights just does not do it for me!

Now Angelina Jolie............

so blue

Yes, I thought they did a very impressive job of making his eyes look blue. (The actor's eyes are actually brown.)

And I was really put off with his obsession with Lois Lane.  George did not allow it to run his life.  Chris did.

Oh, boy. Then you really won't like this one! It's all longing and hurt between the star reporter and the man in blue. (And Lex Luthor's in there doing something for a couple of minutes, but mainly it just serves to facilitate reconciliation between our Krypton-crossed lovers.)

But that's okay with me, I've spent my life trying to nab my own Lois Lane. In fact, my first girlfriend's initials were LL.

Aww those eyes.....ya know the director just wanted us women to drown ourselves in them!!

Down girl!

! I'm much calmer now Doc, much calmer!!

Yea, I guess, but that's what made us women pay more attention! They had to appeal to us too....

After all, the real Superman had many LLs in his life.

Yea, Lois, Lana...who else? Only two I can think of...

a cookie for the good and wise Dr. Guy!

I think they wanted us to continue from the two good ones, hence this movie! Not a bad start though!

Exactly what I was saying too Trudy! Great minds.....

BTW, what's sex?

! I'm going to have to get you a book, that or something else...!

but a man in tights just does not do it for me!

Haha...remember that Robinhood movie, Men in Tights...that comment reminded me of that! It was hilarious!

I know! Whomever those contact lenses were from...they will be doing great business!

It's all longing and hurt between the star reporter and the man in blue.

Exactly! You got it Gene....congrats...being a man and all!! (not many men pick up on this)

But that's okay with me, I've spent my life trying to nab my own Lois Lane

I guess you and a lot of other guys! Same for us women trying to find our superman!!

I finally got to see it last week at the cheap theater over in Weirton. It was only 2.00!
I thought Brandon Routh did a great job. And I loved the subtle references, thrown in here and there, to the first Superman movie back in '78.
Like when he saved the plane, he said something like "I hope this won't put you off of flying; statistically speaking, it's still the safest way to travel." That's exactly what Superman said to Lois Lane after he saved her from the helicopter crash in the first movie.
I thought it was cool that they used the same musical score, too, and that the opening credit graphics were the same. That was nice; brought back memories.

Kevin Spacey's Luthor, I thought, was just mean enough. He seemd to be a barely controlled emotional whacko who happened to know just about everything. I never really cared for Gene Hackman's version. He was just a little too......smarmy, I guess. At least they dispensed with the bumbling, evil sidekick this time around. But all I can say for Luthor is that he sure does like the bimbos.

Was that really Marlon Brando, distorted in the crystals? I missed his name in the credits, if it was.

I enjoyed it.

Yes, I forgot about that. I think they're (at least the director) is trying to make us forget all the Superman movies beyond 1 and 2.

i liked him too!

Yep, that was him! I didn't see his name either and wondered the same thing!

Glad you enjoyed it too!
