Life as I Know It; Family; Lifestyle; and Healthy Living!

I was trying to be funny and peak your curiosity with my title there!LOL! We live in a four bed room apartment and it’s pretty roomy, compared to what some are like. Our living room is an all-in-one, that has what they like to call here a ‘bonus’ room where there’s a big window, which I love. This area I’ve turned into a sitting room, where I like to go and sit on the love seat sofa by the window and read, think, or just hang out. My kids love it too. They like to sprawl out on the sofa and look out the window or just hang out.

We used to have a 50 foot tank in NY with fishes that were babies when we bought them. My husband has a knack for this plus he used to have a few ponds of fishes when he was a boy, so he is very versed on the care and keep of fishes. When we moved from NY we had to give away our fishes that were now well over two years old. Some had died and we got new ones, but there were at least four of them that we had for a long time. Who knew fishes could live that long! They were so big you could eat them! It was hard giving them away because we had grown attached to them and they were a part of our family. Since we couldn’t move such a long distance with them, we made sure to pass them on to someone who would love and care for them as much as we did.

At our current place, although no four-legged pets allowed, we found out recently that we could have a fish tank. My husband recently obtained a tank and all the accoutrements that went with it. Then we went shopping for fishes, it was a family affair! I had forgotten how expensive that could be. We bought fishes, some stones, plants, real and fake, fish food, and other needed supplies for maintaining the tank. We bought seven fishes, all babies. Don’t even ask me what type. I would lie if I named them. But I do remember that one of them is a fighter, very colourful and one is a type that naturally cleans the tank. You always should have one like that in a fish tank.

The fish tank of course was placed on one wall, right in front of the love seat so that we could sit and enjoy watching them. I had forgotten how peaceful it is to just sit and watch them swim around in the tank. The kids like taking turn feeding them when it’s feeding time. I’m looking forward to them growing up. Oh to be like a fish in a tank, just floating around.

I know, my hubby does too, that's why we don't have it anymore. Exchanged for more guppies!LOl!

Hey, I think we do have some of those Betas...I know there are colourful tailed ones in there....hmmm, but I think they're mostly guppies though.

Ah, you bring back memories of having an aquarium for a while. Many years ago, sadly just got to be too much work over time, and too expensive too. Fish in the aquarium (if memory serves) replaced hamsters once the hamsters got too be too stinky. Not that fish were much better, but they were interesting to look at.

Uh, FS, if the fish are floating around, that means they are dead! I had a 20 gal tank.  And we did have to pull the floaters out or they would stink up the house!

oh now I miss my aquarium! when I moved 2 years ago, this August31st, I sold my 20 gal. aquarium for only $10.00 and that included the oak stand, a steal as my ex paid $100.00 for the setup...

wahhhhhhh, gotta get me an aquarium again, miss it!

I love sitting and watching fish in the aquariums. I like it better when they are dangeling on the end of my fishing line, then in my frying pan!

That is a nice hobby though, but you really do have to know what you are doing. My neighbors are really into it. They have 4 aquariums. 2 are the really huge, Dr.'s office kinds. One 10 gallon and then another big one with turtles. My husband brought them 2 crawdads he caought at the river. They loved it.

Yes, it's a lot of work, keeping the tank clean, making sure that not too much acid build up, they have enough oxygen, yada yada yada...tell me about it! And yes, the expense I remember with our large tank was there in the beginning. Once you buy all the equipment at start up, it's not so bad. Buying fish feed though, those things are not so cheap and now there is such a variety!

Hahaha....I know! Wrong choice of words!! I forget that fishes DO swim, humans tend to float!!

And we did have to pull the floaters out or they would stink up the house

Yeah, I know. Man can they smell when they die. I guess no less than other living things uh?!

I sold my 20 gal. aquarium for only $10.00

Wow what a deal!

Yeah, the startup can be pricey!

I hear ya! I like eating fishes too.

Yeah, it is and my hubby could go into business with his knowledge, which I tell him all the time. He's going to help some friends set up their tank in their new home.

We have a small tank that is empty at the moment. We were going to get something else to put in it but found out recently we have to move house, so decided we'd wait until we found somewhere new. We'd actually like to get Phasmids for the tank (Phasmids are leaf and stick insects which are beautiful gentle creatures and fascinating to watch). I'd love to keep geckos but in the state I live, a special licence is required.

Move to California - they will give you as many as you want - no charge.

Sounds really cool. I've seen them on the Discovery channel and they are fascinating creatures!
