Are you going to see it?

I liked the television series. I liked the way those cops, Detective James ‘Sonny’ Crockett and Detective Ricardo ‘Rico’ Tubbs, played by Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas were so cool and the style of dressing was so different.

So different in fact that their way of dressing took off as millions of people copied their styles. Some people didn’t like the look but to me it was so ‘Miami’ at the time.

The series was also very interesting in that each week they dealt with topics that were so much a part of what was going on then and even now.

Yep, I had major crushes on both those guys. Especially Tubbs, those eyes….there I go with the eyes again! LOL!

I haven’t forgotten the other characters too, I loved the character played by Olivia Brown, Detective Trudy Joplin, she was such a feisty character. The ornery Lieutenant was played by Edward James Olmos, another actor whose work I love even to this day.

Now the movie characters are played by Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. I’ve heard that the movie is doing well. I haven’t seen it yet and although I like both actors and would like to see it, I don’t plan on going to the movies to watch it. I’ll wait for the DVD. Simply because the next time I go to the movies, I already promised my son to see what he wants to watch and I know it won’t be Miami Vice! LOL!

If you’ve already seen the movies don’t give a way anything when you comment, just say if you liked it or not. I know there’s nothing deep about it, hey, that’s not the type of show it was!hehee I know the plot and that basically tells you the show but I like seeing for myself so I can relive the excitement of the series through the movie.

I don't want to ruin the movie for you, but I will. The movie takes place in South Florida. It involves 2 undercover cops. There's drugs, violence and some sexual content. Oh, and some minor character dies.

I'm so sorry, Donna. Sometimes I have a big mouth.

I saw it on Monday night and thought that it was good, but not great. I do think that they successfully captured the essence of the original show - and they leave a lot of room for a sequel.

Now bear in mind that my buddies and I rarely missed an episode back in the day, but lately when I have caught a rerun on TV, it has lost a lot of its "watchability".

Overall I'd give the move a 3 1/2 out of 5. It will make a better rental.

I remember when that show first came out. The music was hot.

I loved both those guys too. I also remember going to the mall, in south florida and they had a Miami Vice section in Penneys.

I will wait for DVD too.

Movies based on old tv shows usually suck in my opinion. I liked the tv series back then, but I doubt I'll see the movie until the DVD goes on the cheap rack.

Thanks for the tip Bunnahab!

The music was hot.

Weren't they, [that show] that started the music, really good music in television shows?

I loved both those guys too.

They were so hot weren't they?! [psssst]

I'm inclined to agree with Mason on this one. It makes me wonder whether Hollywood are actually interested in doing anything new anymore, given how many remakes are made each year. It just gets tiring seeing beloved characters turned into modern equivalents who have none of the character quirks that attracted us to the original show in the first place.

Exactly. More often as not what makes a show "work" is the chemistry bewteen the actors playing the charactors which is almost impossible to reproduce with a different cast.

I know. I understand what you're saying and it's a bit frustrating in a way. Cause they can't really continue with a show that has been canceled from so long ago. I think they need some of us from JU to write for them! We're possibly more creative than they are right now. Fresh blood, fresh minds!

True! Most times they're lucky if the ones they cast have any kind of chemistry. It kinda takes the fun out of what you already know doesn't it?!

I'd happily give up my day job to write screenplays for a living.

I would, except for sitcoms. I just couldn't lower myself to that.

But M, sitcoms helped to make television what it is today. It's not as great because they have gone the Reality TV route, (and there are some interesting ones) but where would TV be without sitcoms?
