Tom Cruise dropped by major company
Published on August 24, 2006 By foreverserenity In Entertainment

So all over the news this morning, Tom Cruise lost his contract with Paramount Studios. That’s if you even care. Hahaha….I really don’t care either! But I’m writing about it because IT WAS ALL OVER THE TV News this morning!

He’s going to bounce back despite what people might say or think. So he jumped all over Oprah’s couch and behaved like a Looney tune, so what, the guy was in love at the time. (I don’t know about now) If he wants to act and look crazy just let him, it’s a free country, for now anyway! (Did anyone read DrMiler’s blog “Medicine at gunpoint” Link? - makes me shudder and feel very afraid).

Just because the media loves (or used to) him and of course he loves to be in the forefront to promote himself (can you blame the guy, it’s what he does for a living!). I know, I know, what he said to Brooke Shields was not nice at all and was very inconsiderate. There go all his mommy fans. Not this mommy though. People will say stupid things at different times, and put their foot in their mouths. I think we’re allowed at least five slip ups in a life time right..? OK, three slip ups, consider yourself lucky! You name it, he’s been put through it, and called it, and blamed for everything else.

The thing I’m getting at here is the fact that he’s lost a major contract has turned into big news. You’d think it was the news of the century! He’s not going to be in the poor house anytime soon because of it. No way, the man has gazillions so he’s not feeling too sorry for himself. And what does Paramount proves anyway? That they have the balls to drop him as a client? They’re so big and bad THEY can drop a major movie star, especially one that has lost favor with the public. Who cares?!

Who cares indeed! For the love of God, get a grip people!

While I think that Tom Cruise as a person is a total numbstick, I still like a lot of the movies he's in, and I won't be all sanctimonious and say "Well, I'll never see another one of his movies, because I think he's crazy!"

I like the Mission Impossible movies. I liked Minority Report, and War of the Worlds. Top Gun is still a great movie. The guy has some pretty decent chops as an actor, weirdness aside.

So I don't like him as a person! I don't like most actors as people! I'll still see the movie if it's worth watching . . . and like you said, Serenity, everyone should just get a grip!

Exactly! That's what I'm talking about. He can keep his personal weirdness to himself. Just give me a good movie to watch!

Cart and Horse.  Really.

Paramont did not make Cruise a star, Cruise made them billions.  He will be back, antics and all (and I find them amusing).  Quite simply, someone at Paramount is going to get the Axe for this.

True, that he did! I think he'll be back too. Despite everything, when some people were interviewed were asked would you watch his movies, almost all of them said yes. That new CEO did it, Summer somebody (forgot his last name). He could't have acted alone?

He could't have acted alone?

Actually, yes he can.

Amen, and when Summer whats-his-face gets his butt fired and the new guy gets him back, he'll make them billions more. We'll still go see his movies, weird personal life aside.

Oh yes...isn't that how it works? I doubt we've seen the last of Tom. His public, and there is still one will want to see a movie.

According to sources close to Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone, who owns Paramount, the studio estimated that Cruise's uncensored off-screen antics were thought to have cost the studio $150 million in lost box office receipts for Mission: Impossible III. - IMDb.com

Actually, Tom's antics did not dissuade me from seeing it: it simply looked like a rehash of the previous two.

I definately agree with you on this Nicky. So do a few of my friends. People are going to act stupid sometimes. We just hear more about it because they are so famous! That alone would be enough for me to keep a low profile!LOL!

I believe there's a LOT more to this story behind the scenes. Remember, Viacom also owns Comedy Central, and it's possible that Cruise could have given them ultimatums that would have driven off Comedy Central's cash cows Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

I have heard unverified anecdotal evidence of ridiculous demands related to Cruise's Scientology faith that he allegedly put on overseas companies for the MI:III publicity. Perhaps whis also weighed in, perhaps not.

Or perhaps Cruise upped his asking price too much and they simply decided he wasn't worth the pesos.

Hmnmm, you could be right about that!

You know this is ridicuolous of him. How could he possible drive business away like that? I know he's passionate, make that insane about his religion but doing it that way? Madness. Of course, who's to tell which story is true and which isn't.

I definately think this would be the reason.

I read an article in our paper this week taken from the AP....it said the Paramount Execs don't even "want him on the lot."

Meaning, he is not even welcome there anymore after causing M3 to lose so much money with his nuttiness.

Seriously, I think we are seeing Tom lose his mind.  I think he's on a slippery slope to insanity...perhaps a functional insanity..but insanity all the same.'

Katie better take the baby and run.

I know it' s that bad! Well, they really should blame the fact that this time MI 3 wasn't that hot. [so says the woman who as yet to see it!lol! but that doesn't matter, I'm going to love it anyway, just because I like the whole MI series!]

I don't think her parents would make anything happen to her. They seem to be close despite what's been in the media. Did Nicole get out just in time? hmmmmmmm
