No tv for a day!

It was a great day yesterday, my family and I had a great time together. My hubby loves Ping Pong (table tennis). He plays at least 4 times a week. From time to time there are tournaments and he hasn’t had the chance to enter one in a while. The last time he played in a tournament was five years ago and he walked away with a trophy and a medal.

We got ourselves ready, the kids decided to bring things they would play with incase they got bored. My son, his gameboy advance and a new power ranger he received for his birthday and my youngest, her doll and some other stuff to keep her amused. I packed a picnic basket, just in case. Because we weren’t flowing in cash and I know how kids get when they go out, they want to eat everything in sight! My hubby was like, you don’t have to pack so much, we’re not going to be there for long. I’m like, leave it up to me, I know what I’m doing. Our oldest was at work til 4pm.

So off we went. We decided to take the highway to get their quicker. His game was supposed to begin at 1:30 and it was 1:00pm.

We were there at 1:20pm. He ran inside while I got the kids out and locked up. There was hardly any parking space and we squeezed into a very tight spot. While he was doing it he was bragging about the NY style of parking! Haha, being able to align the car and squeeze into small spaced, yep, that’s NY alright!

This place was a Community center. A nice one at that. There were people at the desk who I greeted and got directions on where to go for the tournament. My son saw some boys in a game room playing Pool and asked me if he could go. I said sure, just remember where we are. I took my daughter and walked into the section where the tournament was. It looked really official. There were four rows of table tennis tables, officials on one side who were registering people and keeping scores, and there were spectators and players on either side of the court. I found a seat with my daughter and put our stuff down near my husband’s bag. I actually didn’t realize that I was sitting with his friends from the club he played at were also sitting. Thank heavens I had said hello and smile to everyone! Of course my daughter being the friendly outgoing person she is, started up a conversation with a couple. I smiled at her antics and they were very nice at playing with her.

She eventually got bored and ran off to where her brother was. I checked on them and saw that they were ok. The game room consisted of a Pool table, A luge (spelling?) table, a table tennis table, a large television with a PS 2 and a table hockey game. Not a bad set up at all. There were other kids there. I started a game with my daughter. We took turns using the different games. Since they were OK I went back to see if my hubby was playing yet. He played and won his first match. It was time to pick up Jessica so I took Amanda with me and drove to her job to pick her up. We stopped at home so she could change, stopped for more gas, I packed some more food, yep, they ate the others already! and then we were on our way.

We spent the rest of the day having fun. My hubby played his tournament and hanged out with his friends. I took turn playing with my kids. We all took turn playing Pool. I’ve never played it before and it was fun. I had to split my time between my kids and the other children because they wanted to play with me. This was strange because they didn’t know me. Not there was anything wrong with that. I guess I had the sort of personality that they felt comfortable with, which was good anyway! One girl said to me “you’re pretty” which was sweet! They were nice kids!

We left there around 8:30pm. We were munching at what was left in the basket! We had a really great time! My hubby didn’t win but he enjoyed the competition. The kids were happy because they didn’t think it would be fun and it was because they were able to do things they enjoyed. And the good thing was no one had to pull out the toy they brought with them and no one was stuck in front of the television all day!

Sounds like a fun day. I'm sure it beat TV any day.

I love ping pong. I used to play a lot when I was younger. It's so much fun. Your husband must be good if he won a trophy and a medal. Doesn't matter though, I challenge him to a match. And Donna, I challenge you to a pool match. I know you never played before, which is why I'm challenging you. You will both go down in defeat.
