I love music....hey there is a song title by that name! [Singing..."I love music....sweet, sweet music....I love music where the whole world is grooving!....make me laugh, make me shout, make me shine...whenever I'm with you...."] At least, I think it went something like that!LOL! I do enjoy that song too. It's that kind of dancing music when you hear it, makes you get up and dance, twirl your other half around and just act like two crazy teens and your kids look at you like you're crazy!LOL!

OK...back to earth!

I've been thinking about Simon and Garfunkel songs today, even singing some of them out loud and just grooving. They were my listening obsession when I was pregnant with all three of my kids. I still enjoy listening to them, although I don't do it as often.

I found myself drawn to them again after I lost my parents (and Anastacia after my mom past). Somehow their lyrics were what I needed to hear. Especially when their words transported me to my childhood, having been listening to them since that time.

But this isn't a moping blog, so snap out of it! haha....Actually I have been humming Simon and Garfunkel all day and I wasn't in a bad or sad mood. I find them very calming and soothing...especially after just giving my daughter a driving lesson....haha...no really, she's really doing well with that. She's quite a natural at driving.

One song that kept coming back to me was "The Sound of Silence" from Simon and Garfunkel. I absolutely love that song. I went on line to search out the lyrics because somehow I always twist their lyrics up!LOL! I do that sometimes. In looking at their lyrics, I realise just what good writers those guys really are. I know they're good, otherwise they wouldn't have been so successful and have a legion of fans, but I mean, they are really good.

Have you ever really read the words to that song? Somehow reading the words made my hair stand up. Because what they wrote, if people do not listen, do not share, do not speak out, then what will we become...what will we as a world know? Especially when there are those amongst us trying to silence other people's voices. Trying to live in the dark, with their deeds, but thank heavens for the light that shines on them. And for those prophesying of what may be, what is to come because of what others are doing, who is to say that they will succeed. I doubt that God made our earth for those who are evil to win. I don't think so at all.

Those who have a voice, speak, those who have ears, listen, and those who have the talent of writing, share your wisdom.

Wow, this blog is turning in a different direction! I'm ending here.

I'm putting the words of that song here. It's a great song, for those of you who remember the music, enjoy!

The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel

Hello darkness, my old friend,
Ive come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of
A neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one deared
Disturb the sound of silence.

Fools said i,you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon God they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said, the words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.
And whisperd in the sounds of silence.

Let's not forget this song...which gets stuck in my head from time to time...

Mrs. Robinson

And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson
Jesus loves you more than you will know (Wo, wo, wo)
God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
(Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)
We'd like to know a little bit about you for our files
We'd like to help you learn to help yourself
Look around you, all you see are sympathetic eyes
Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home

And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson
Jesus loves you more than you will know (Wo, wo, wo)
God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
(Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)

Hide it in a hiding place where no one ever goes
Put it in your pantry with your cupcakes
It's a little secret, just the Robinsons' affair
Most of all, you've got to hide it from the kids

Coo, coo, ca-choo, Mrs Robinson
Jesus loves you more than you will know (Wo, wo, wo)
God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
(Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)

Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon
Going to the candidates debate
Laugh about it, shout about it
When you've got to choose
Ev'ry way you look at it, you lose

Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio
A nation turns its lonely eyes to you (Woo, woo, woo)
What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson
Joltin' Joe has left and gone away
(Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)

It's funny how you can hear something and like it but not realize how profound it is until later. I remember singing sound of silence in music class in grade school. So to me it was a music class song. We sang all kinds of folk songs, Both Sides Now, One Tin Soldier, etc. I went to catholic school. We were weird.

I know! I've heard this song for years, but never really paid attention.

We were weird.

I love Simon and Garfunkle, but not Simon alone.  And My favorite is the Boxer, followed by the Sounds of Silence.  Guess I am just old!  But I dont mind.  I got to hear some of the greatest when they first were cut, not on an oldies station!

I gotta disagree, doc. But then differences of opinions is what makes horse races!

I like them both together and as separate artistes. I really enjoy Paul Simon on his own as well as with the Ladysmith Black Mambazo group.

Agreed Joe, differences of opinions makes the world go round and around!

I once performed 'Sounds Of Silence' in a beautiful church with excellent acoustics. Paul and Art's harmonies were superb and well beyond my squeaky schoolboy voice, for sure.

Paul Simon has had his moments, but I've not heard much at all from Art.

Haha, I'm sure. They did harmonize well didn't they?!

but I've not heard much at all from Art.

No, not since the live concert they did in Central Park many years ago.
