The Fighter Speaks
Published on October 28, 2006 By foreverserenity In Pets & Nature
"Heyyyy....there's no category for my kind!"

"Harumph! Me sees one for Dogs, Cats - ewwwww, Reptiles...reptiles?!" [gulp!] "They like to eat pets like me don't they?"]

[looks around fervently, swims back and forth] "Whew! I think we're ok girls and boys". The Molleys, the Guppies, and even the bottom feeder, the Algae Eater, looked relieved. But not the Catfish....he was too busy eating up the extras left behind. "Oh you guys are too weird..what are you worried about? We have a new life in this gorgeous tank!"

"Oh oh..." the catfish swam as quickly as his fins could carry him. He saw the Fighter coming after him! "You, shouted the Fighter at him, "over there, not a word"!

"Harumph...as I was saying....let me introduce myself....I'm the Fighter Fish...the one and only...you've seen my picture before...and these other pansies...er I mean, fishes around me". My mistress used some weird looking fandangle thingy to take pictures of us. That thing that my master is always on while he sits and watch us. Yeah, he's on it all of the time."

"They think we don't notice them. But we do. I like to look at the youngest mistress, I love her because she always gives us food, even when the master tells her not to, cause we like to eat and we'll eat too much! hehe, the little mistress means well."

The Fighter shook it's tail....swam around some more....."Yep, the Catfish is right, we have a good life here. They treat us well, feeds us twice a day, likes to sit and watch us swim. I love to show off. Why not, I'm the most gorgeous one in here, even better looking than them fancy-tailed ones too! I can't stand them. They tried to gang up on me but I was too much for them. Yea, I showed them who was boss in this tank." He swam up and down trying to look quite menacing.

"Oh I like that mirror the master put in here for me. At first I thought he had brought another one of me home. Yeah, I went up to what I thought was another of my kind and knocked it on the nose. I was ready to rumble! But after a couple of tries, I realised that I was fighting with myself!"

"It must have been pretty amusing to the masters because they sat around looking at me with big round eyes, watching my every move. Then the little mistress came up and pressed her nose against the tank. They were talking excitedly and pointing at me. Oh that's not funny at all! Harumph...."

"My master cleans our tank once a week. I like it when he does that. Afterwards we get nice clean water and its not so toxic in here. We fishes do like to drop our loads you know. Yes sirree...well, it's normal you know. We can't use those white things you humans sit on.. or get potty bins like your four-legged pets. Say...why do you even have four-legged pets anyway? Don't you like fishes?" "Hey, I don't want to hear that you like to eat us.....ok, forget it!"

I'm just glad that our masters got us now....it was a big relief for all of us to leave that store. That man who looked after us was so mean. He kept me in a little tiny container with little holes on top....ewwww...[shivers from the memory] I was so scared the first time I came to our new home. I didn't know what to expect."

"But I talked to the others and I told them to just lets wait and see. The masters bought a bubble machine, we all like to take turn swimming in and out of the bubbles. That's so much fun! And they've put other stuff inside our tank, plants, and shells, stones, even a fake crab stone! Yep, we like our new home alright."

"There used to be another bright colored toy in here but the little mistress kept making noise and pointing at it...then one day the master took it out. But that's ok, he shouldn't have put her toy in here anyway. The mistress took it and cleaned it up real good and now the little mistress sits and plays with it. Master fixed our tank again though and it's looking good!"

"Yep, we like it just fine around here."

"Hey, what's that the master keeps doing to the mistress...? wait, she's on that machine again, staring straight ahead and moving her fingers...the master goes up to her and bends over, he uses his neck to...wait a minute, he's tryng out my move....yes...the master hooks his head over the mistress shoulder holding her still with his chin and neck, putting his head close to hers...she laughs hysterically....gee....I heard him say that's what the Fighter does to his mate, hold her still so she can't move...well, that's how we Fighters do what we do....harumph....copycat"!

"Hey, speaking of cats, I heard about that Socrates and that Sally....better keep them away from me" I don't think we will be friends at all, seeing as how they like to eat our kind"! Oh yeah, I heard my mistress laughing the other day, she was reading a bout a Pumpkin....what kind of name is that?! The other fishes laughed hysterically...the Fighter glares at them and they swam around pretending they're not listening in!

"Ah well, I better go now...it will be bed time soon. The mistress usually turns out our lights and turn the bubble machine off. She usually looks in on us to see how we're doing before she does that. It's nice to be loved, even though we're fishes, we still want to be loved."

"You guys should think about getting some of our kinds. We make good pets. We're quiet too, no need to walk us or clean up after us everyday...yuck yuck!"

"I'm bored now...."

"Oh yeah, and just in case you forget how beautiful I am....here's that picture..."

!  Love it!  And Sam (may I call you Sam, short for Siamese), you can blog under any name!  And you are not quite right.  Sally, Socrates, and Pumpkin do love you!  And would like you for dinner!

But as long as your mistress and master decide your socializing, I guess we will have to just say our how-dee-doos between them and you through their talkers.

"Yes Ms. Trudy, in our tank at home with the other fishes. Actually it's working out quite alright so far! The only time I fight is if there's another Fighter in the tank or any of the others try to bully me. "

"The mistress thanks you!"

"That's cute Mr. Guy but the masters didn't name me yet. I don't know what they are waiting on. The young mistress named her car....Cindy....if the car can have a name, what about poor me uh?!"

Sally, Socrates, and Pumpkin do love you! And would like you for dinner!

"Ughh!!!! "

I guess we will have to just say our how-dee-doos between them and you through their talkers.

"Yep, lets keep it that way shall we. Harumph...cats as friends indeed..what's the fish world coming to?!"

Pumpkin says: "If I could swim, I'd have a long one ahead of me to get to you fish, but just know that if I could, I would. Laughing at my name, grumble, growl..."

Maso says: Well that's one way to get the cat among the pigeons, I suppose. (Yes, I still trying to hunt up a better metaphor).

Very nice aquarium, Serenity. I thought of keeping fish once, but i am far too lazy to change the water on a regular basis, so I better not.

Just dropping by to say hi.

Heyyyyy, nice to 'see' you! Yeah, changing the water is an important part of having a tank. Thanks for stopping in and letting us know you're ok. Missing you lots!
