A little piece of history!

Although I was lagging around and behind on my decision I was not going to let this day pass without doing something. Without letting my little voice be heard as many of you probably already have by voting.

I was sent this Email today and I'm even more inspired to go out and do my civic duty! I've never ever seen this information before and thought it would be interesting to share!

Attached is a drawing of the first African American to ever vote in America. His name was David Strother, the date was March 14th 1905.

I wonder if we realise how lucky we are to be able to do this, to choose the people who we want to represent us in our government? There are so many people around the world today who are still unable to live as freely as we do and to make the choice for themselves. Despite the rhetoric and the crap that ensues, we should all make it a point to go out there and vote today and in 2008. Otherwise you have no right to complain!

I couldn't count the number of times back in my days as an election official that immigrants would come in to vote and start crying A) because they could vote, and because Americans didn't care enough to.

Ah, I guess they had that info wrong. Thx! Oh yes, I did just that, voted, not even the threat of inclement weather could stop me!
