Menu ideas
Published on November 21, 2006 By foreverserenity In Blogging
I read Little Whip's blog that included some suggestions for Thanksgiving dinner Link. I love the Cornish Hens recipe, although I'm not planning on those for Thursday. More like Christmas for those hens.

I like her Sweet Potato recipe and since I'm planning to have Sweet Potato will do that one. (Hmm, I have to find out from her about the sweet potato - note to self!) I'm planning on having Turkey. My kids love Turkey so it will be included and my friend gave me an idea for a different type of recipe this year that I plan on using. I usually would cook in my own way, sans recipes, but this year I'm feeling for a different way of doing things.

Of course I will be one of those last minute people at the big W at 5pm tomorrow! I know, I know, not good but hey, it couldn't be helped!

I wondered if anyone else out there is cooking, what is your menu plan like? I'm just curious, and wanted to see if there was anything else to try for my dinner.

It will be just us this year, no friends, or other relatives. Everyone else has plans elsewhere and that's ok. We have each other and that's all that matters. So dinner for five it will be!

There's a lot I'm thankful for and the most important one is being alive and healthy, thank you Lord!
I've read Trudy's and Mason's thankful blogs which were so nice and fuzzy, really sweet!

Here is my tentative menu:

Turkey - I'm going to use one of Martha Stewart's recipe I think it's called Quince glazed Turkey. I'm not sure about the Quince, I know its a fruit but I don't think I can find that here. But I'll be able to follow the rest of the recipe to the T.

Ham - again, Martha's coco cola recipe.

Curried Goat - yes, I know there's some who have never had it, but it's quite tasty. I'm going to have to go in search of some goat meat. See me tomorrow afternoon but I have an idea where to find it.

Rice and Peas - Jamaican style

Mashed potato - usually it would be a potato salad done the way we do it jamaican style but my son doesn't like the green peas and eggs that would be in it, so mashed it is!

Mixed Vegetables

Green salad, done with Cucumbers, tomato, lettuce, sliced green bell pepper, shredded carrots

Turkey stuffing, not from scratch - the box variety with my own special touch. Some in the turkey, some on the side!

Macaroni and Cheese - for my picky eating son!

Green beans - maybe casserole style, not sure - maybe not, they don't really like it that way anyway.

Cranberry Sauce

Sweet Potato recipe from Whip - my oldest will prepare this one

Apple Pie - Mrs. Smith's pre-prepared one that you just put in the oven and bake - not my fortay so...

So... that's it! A lot of food for five people! We usually have left overs that lasts all weekend! And if I can bring a covered dish to anyone around me, I will do so!

I guess a few of you will be going elsewhere for dinner if you're not cooking uh?
Whatever you do, enjoy!

Sounds like quite the feast FS? I'm not sure what's going to be going on around here. I do know that I'm not up to the gang at my house. Maybe going to a in-law's and taking a few sides though I wish I could go to Ohio and spend it with my family. I guess that's not meant to be. I may say fug it and take the boys out for dinner if I can find somewhere reasonable. Maybe Golden Corral, are they open on thanksgiving? I don't know. I guess we'll have to see how things feel on Thursday.

Hey I found some new things to add to my list, I have never ate goat, curried or otherwise and I've never ate sweet potatoes in any form.

I am doing side dishes and dessert... I ordered a turkey that will be fully cooked at a deli. All I have to do is heat it up...yeah, it's the easy way out, I know.

Maybe next year I will take on the mighty task of cooking up a great turkey...I sure didn't feel like I could live up to it this year!

Have a great Thanksgiving, donna! (from Chris and I).

I'm going to do the traditional turkey with pork stuffing.

Some kind of yam, maybe I'll give LW's a crack at it.

I'm thinking asparagus with white wine sauce.

I'm also doing Mrs Smiths Apple. I can cook pretty well, but I'm not to sharp with baking.

I am going to my aunt's, and cooking, cooking, cleaning and cooking.  hahaha.

We will have everything from Turkey and stuffing, to 10 diff kinds of pies and desserts.  She does Thanksgiving and Christmas big big big, but since the cancer she doesn't have a lot of energy.

Enter my hands.

Have a good one, I'm off!

I hear ya on this. My brother, aunt and cousins are in NY and I've been the one cooking the last few years before I left and I really enjoy having all of us together. My cousins who are usually around us here in FL have other plans. This is the time of year I get nostalgic and wish my sisters lived close enough instead of across the ocean. Aw well....I have my kids and hubby though and am thankful!

I don't think that's such a bad idea at all! I say go for it if you can and I'm sure they must be open!

Ooh, it's delicious. When and if we actually do get together in JU real world I would love to cook that dish for all of you!

Side dish and desserts sounds good to me Rose! Hey, I thought of ordering mine this year too. But I've been so last minute it's too late to order one. So, cooking I will do!

Thank you darling, you guys do as well!

Oh, so nice Tonya! I'm glad she has you to help out!

Have a good one, I'm off!

Whew, made it to the big W in time to get the last turkey! Yep, the last one! I can't believe that all now. According to them, they had a stack so high, the last one was sold last night. I was too shocked at that because they have to have something for last minute people like me! I dug, and I found one! Yippee! That will teach me not to do that again!

I have everything I need except the goat, no more, wah....I'm planning to have it for Christmas instead along with the hens and I didn't get the coconut topping for my pie....by the time I got back to work and came out again, my little one who has been with me all day was just too cranky and so I gave in! So I'll still try Whip's recipe, sans coconut! I'll definately try it that way next time!
