Amusing article by Alissa Rowinsky on flakmag.com
Published on November 29, 2006 By foreverserenity In Entertainment
I have friends who enjoy watching the different cooking shows on television and we often get into discussions about the different shows and the chefs who are featured. One of my friends often express his dislike of Bobby Flay which I never understood. I of course didn't because I only saw Flay in passing (channel surfing) and never really cared too much for his shows. I've sat and viewed them time and again, but it just didn't appeal to me. The most I've ever watched Flay was on Iron Chef in it's entirety when he's on, because I like the show.

I was perusing the web on my break and found an article about Flay that I'm still ROFL from! It was an article written on line at flakmag.com (an online magazine, here's a link to information about what they do Link.

The author of this article, Alissa Rowinsky and the subsequent discussion and nod of affirmations by other readers, made me realised just what it was about Bobby Flay that so infruriated others about him! And now that I've read it I do see what they are all talking about! Although it doesn't really matter to me what he does, because his bread is already buttered, to coin a phrase, but it makes me wonder if the Food Network will try to make Flay more likeable or he'll still be their most favored star!

Ms. Rowinsky used the word dicketry in reference to Flay's attitude and I laughed at that because it's such a strange word but one that seem so apt! The title of her piece is "The Staggering Dicketry of Bobby Flay" and can be read in it's amusing entirety here Link.

Most of it originated in his original two bouts against Iron Chef Morimoto. He deeply offended the people there when he jumped up on the table and stood on the cutting board. That is just not the done thing to do, evidently, because it shows a lack of respect for the art.

Well, if that were all, I could deal with it. The second time, though, he made light of the previous offense, and at the end took the cutting board, threw it on the floor, and stood on the counter. I'd call that 'dicketry' at it's most definitive.

Anyway, he's what a lot of people hate about modern cuisine. He's taken a synthesis of a couple of styles of cooking and made it "his own". I think a lot of people just see it as the same kind of mindless trend as back a few years ago when everything was "blackened".

For me it is just his 'tude. I used to watch his show where he cooked for his friends in an ordinary kitchen, and I couldn't stand his tone. Outside of all the offense and food criticism, I think he's just a jerk, frankly. Just my opinion, of course.

Yes, I heard about that! While I didn't see that particular show when he was in Japan, I saw the one aired here at the rematch (if you will) and he did it again!
That's pretty rude!

Definitely!

Actually, you're not alone in that thinking! A few of the students around me had the same opinion too!

He sounds like a tool. I've always liked Iron Chef, especially the Japanese version. Go Iron Chef Chen Kinichi!

Same here. I do also enjoy watching the American version!

That's quite a title!
