On the Discovery Channel, maybe because it was 1:40am, they were showing this, I was half asleep (having just woken up from falling asleep on the sofa) and walking ‘blindly’ trying to change into my nightclothes (pajamas) and at the same time watching the television which was still on.

The man on the program, the host, whose name I don’t know, built a makeshift spare, stood in the water and tried catching a Salmon. Finally he succeeded! It was a rather large fish, wow; I was impressed by the size of it!

Then he did something that I thought was practically barbaric, he bent the fish slightly, it was wriggling frantically, showed it to us, scale and all, marveling at the look of it, and then he bit into it!

He said it could be eaten just like that, a lot of protein, straight from the river. He then proceeded to devour the entire fish right there and then!

Well, I said to myself, I like eating them, but I just couldn’t do that. I might if my life depended on it. Although I would have to kill the poor thing first. But to my sleep-induced mind that was just a little too much!

Man versus the wild. I guess when you have to survive, man wins!

I'd kill the thing first. Not just because I can't stand the thought of something being alive while I eat it. I wonder how hungry one has to be to eat something so immediately.

Also, I might not know a lot about survival in the wilds but some fishes, they might struggle and prick you with their sharp fins if you try to handle them like that alive.

I like survival shows. If this is the guy I think, he's a doof. He's always taking risks that people should never take in situations like that. He swims across unknown water that he could walk around. He does captain kirk rolls down hills, runs constantly, etc.

The last thing you want in a survival situation is to drown needlessly, get dysentary or parasites from water or eating raw fish, break an ankle running, expend energy you will need more later, etc. The guy is basically an example of what not to do many times.

I don't always agree with this guy, but on the whole he is a lot more informative and you can better count on what he says. I've seen him do things I considered a tad silly, but I'd give someone who learned from him better chances than those who learned from the 'man vs. wild' guy.

Yes, me too! I know, he was pretty extreme!

It did and he had quite a time getting it too!

Yes, that's him alright! He did quite a few dangerous stuff after that too! His canoe became filled w/water and sank and he had to swim in freezing water!

You're right!
