Life as I Know It; Family; Lifestyle; and Healthy Living!

I heard about this some time last year and didn’t really like what I heard at all. Prospective parents who can choose what their children will look like. One woman who was interviewed, [her identity was protected], said she wanted her child to have blue eyes. I’m not sure if she couldn’t have children, and I think for her that was the case and she was having donated sperms.

The owner of the company who lets parents make these choices said that her clients just want to be parents and she is happy to be able to do this for them.

I wonder how happy they are to ‘just want to be parents’? Because if they were, wouldn’t they just leave it up to nature to develop a healthy child without any interference?
Parents are able to choose the height, color of hair, eyes, sex of the child they want. Is this not in a sense wrong? Or maybe I’m just too critical?!

I just think that if all the parents want to have children who are between 5ft 11inches and 6ft, with blue eyes and blond hair, they are in essence designing the ‘perfect’ child according to what the magazines and Hollywood dictates.

I don’t know if they really sit to think about what they are doing when they make these decisions. I wondered if they were able to choose that the child be healthy, doesn’t have any disabilities and be a whiz in school if they would do it. Perhaps they would then I might agree with them.

When mine were born, I just wanted them to have all the right parts.  I was not worried about the color or shape.  Got my wish too!  So that makes me a happy parent.

Almost all of this is possible for a price. To determine the sex of an embryo is $2000.00. Can you imagine what the other testing is like. When you get into reworking the embryo to fit your perfect child you could get into hundreds of thousands of dollars.

It's just wrong. Check out the movie Gatica if you haven't. It takes this concept to a whole new level, one I hope this world never sees.

Yes, I agree with you Forever. If anything, making sure your baby has healthy genes should be the only thing parents are concerned about, not if they'll be "pretty enough"! That is just wrong.

I believe this is what all parents hope for! And thank heavens you did!

I agree it's wrong. I did see the movie, it was good and quite scary to think about too!

Yes Jenny. It wouldn't have been so bad just to hear them say, well, healthy and happy, but we're talking about the ideal looks is what they're after.

In a way I guess you can't blame their misguided ideals. After all, our society is so materialistic and only think about what each person can get, not what they can offer to help.

I had also read an article somewhere about deaf parents "ordering" a deaf child. I don't get it. It just seems wrong to me but they seem to consider it part of their identity and a culture that they want to share with their child.

You kidding me?! Yowzy that's very strange! I mean, it's just wrong. I can understand but it's just wrong!
