David Beckham will be leaving his European team, Real Madrid for a team in Los Angeles, the Galaxy, when his contract ends. I wonder what his fans will think about this?

hardy, har har!

I'm disappointed -- I was hoping that after our trade of Freddy Adu, Becks would be making his way to DC. Afterall, he is friends with TomKat, and TomKat are friends of the Schneider who are in DC because of the Redskins, so it only makes sense that he'd come here, right? Maybe I should have chatted with him before he signed his contract.

Of course, there is the whole: his wife wants to be a pop princess so LA is probably more her speed than DC. Oh well.

I wouldn't expect great things out of him. The argument is that he underperformed in the World Cup (he did score a goal in his famous style though) and specifically that he doesn't have the speed to play the midfield any more causing his defenders to have to work harder behind him. He was cut from the English squad, and then has spent the majority of this season sitting the bench in Madrid. He's coming here because his desire to get more money out of Real Madrid didn't work. His glory days are coming to an end -- he's still a good footballer, but he's going to have a lot of people expecting him to be BRILLIANT and I just don't see that happening.

I heard that Madrid was disappointed. Seems DC was a sad step child to him.

They made their own bed on this one. If they are disappointed (I haven't read any where that they are), it is because of the commercial sales he makes them (the Beckham shirts, the increase in Real Madrid exposure globally), not because they are losing a good footballer. Beckham has been trying to nail RM down on a contract for at least six months. He wanted more money, he wanted more playing time -- and to both, RM said, "no thanks. We'll extend your contract exactly as it is written but that's all." There was no incentive for him to stay, and it's not like RM couldn't afford it. Afterall, there are plently of people world wide who might have little notion of what Real Madrid is, but who have certainly heard the Beckham name (of course, I'm not talking about Europe where football comes second only to breathing).

Seems DC was a sad step child to him.

I think Becks would be misinformed if he thought DC United was a sad stepchild to any club. In the 11 years of MLS, DC has won the MLS Championship Cup 4 times (1996, 1997, 1999 and 2004). The LA Galaxy has done so twice (1998 and 2002). DC United has also won the Supporters Sheild (team with best regular season record) three times (1997, 1999, and 2006) whereas LA has done it twice (1998 and 2002).

I think that someone is a BIG (spell that B-I-G) United fan! Sorry. I am no LA fan, I just found it kind of funny. Ya know. The US, soccer, and we get the biggest star?

Now I wont talk about my team right now...........

Yeah, Real Madrid didn't give him much play time, plus he had injuries too. Poor Becks likes the limelight you know! But he is a good player so we'll see how it goes!

True, he wants to be on a winning team. But like I said, his choice of the LA team could be because of Victoria! - Ms. Posh!
