Life as I Know It; Family; Lifestyle; and Healthy Living!
I've come to realise that the news media will report what they want, when they want. Sometimes it doesn't even matter what is going on, as long as there is a more sensationalized story out there, they will be all over it, again, and again, and again, and again!

Take the death of Anna Nicole for example. I loved Anna Nicole, I really did. She was quite a character, but she was fun to watch, just to see what she would be doing. I'm not going to get into the theatrics (that might be the wrong word) of her life, I admired that she did all she could do despite the flak she got sometimes.

I for one was sorry to hear that she had died, especially since she leaves a baby behind.

The news media, television especially, did an endless array of programming around her life and her death. At first it was interesting because I didn't realise so many people would be involved in a tug-of-war over her body and her baby (and that part is not over). But after a while it began to drone on my last nerves! And don't even get me started about her mother! [I'm calm....I'm calm]

Anyway, with all that overkill about Anna Nicole, there were other things more newsworthy going on in our country and around the world that perhaps didn't get as much focus as it should have. Well, it seemed that way to me!

I listen to the news to keep myself informed on what's going on in the world around me. Some things I'm interested in more than others, some things I zone out if I have no interest in it, and others stay at the forefront of my mind because it made an impact on me.

I wondered to myself if other people experience the news the same way. Do they zone out, change the station or channel or don't watch or read the news at all? I can't say I blame people if they don't listen to the news. After all, there's nothing but sadness some of the times, or make that most of the times.

It would be great if the news were simply treated for what it is, information. To inform the people of the country, state, city or township listening or watching so that they can know what's going on around them. Instead we're regaled with the showmanship that the daily news report have become and it's all about the ratings factor.

So we hear about some things more than we hear about others, even if they aren't really news.

I saw an interesting quiz online today at msnbc.com. It asked "How much do you really know the news?" I took it and found out that I knew more than I thought I did, at least for this week anyway! I was told "You answered 80% of questions correctly." The two questions I got wrong were about news that I had little or no interest in so I must have zoned out when I heard them!

You should take the quiz to see if you know what's going on in the news! Here's the quiz! Link

FS, I mostly avoid the news.

It just stresses me out.

I don't know if maybe being an informed citizen should be a priority for me, but at this point, it's just not.

The news is 99% shitty stuff that happens that will make me worry about my children, my husband, my health, my home...anything and everything in my life will become a source of constant fear. And politics have started annoying the crap out of me.

I'm not surprised that you are so informed, though, and I do think that's admirable.

I dont listen to news period. By reading it on the Internet, I can read what I want to and dont have to read the rest.

As it does everyone!

I know Tex, it does that to me too. There are times I choose not to listen because there's a point when too much is too much!

Thx hon!

Yes, thank heavens for the Internet feeds too. I do all of them, listen, read, watch! I'm a glutton for punishment!lol!

I only got two right, but I refuse to watch the news.

The only "newsy" show that I watch is The Colbert Report.

That's better than a zero! Hey, i've got to swing by your blog, I can't wait to read your Idol report!

I know a few JUsers do too. I don't watch him as much.

The news is nothing more than the fruit of incompetent labor. I can't remember a major situation where the press wasn't proven to have lied in their coverage. Think of the major stories over the last 20 or 30 years. Then ask yourself... Would I buy a home built by a construction company with the same track records for accuracy and professionalism...

"The Shirks" from the film "The Money Pit" come to mind. ;~D

This made me laugh! !

Nope......

They sure do!! Would you believe HBO has been showing re-runs of this constantly!

When I'm farting around the house, Fox is usually on in the background. I also watch it last at night, when I'm in bed and wanting to fall asleep. (O'Reilly is particularly soporific.)

My hubby likes FOX too and CNN.

I only *really* listen when something of interest comes up, and then I'll look for the rest of the story online...and not from Fox.

I think a lot of people do that. What would we do without the Internet uh?!!!

I totally surprise myself. I got everyone right, but to be honest I guessed on three of them. The one where the tragic fire took place, the holy city in Iraq and where the truck driver who won the lotto was from. I had a 50/50 chance on that one since I knew it was New Jersey or Georgia.

I think I knew alot since I watch the news about every night. I should say I listen to the news because it's Rose who likes watching the news. I'm ususally reading next to her so I hear the news.

Entertainment Tonight sounds like they're glad she died. They been milking every bit out of her death. We should start a pool here in JU predicting what day ET will do a show without mentioning Anna Nicole Smith.

Another thing that pisses me off about local news is their little snippets of news before T.V. shows. Like here there was one who said, " Eating what peanut butter can make you sick. Find out at News at 10." I was thinking, "Bitch, just tell us. If it's important tell me now." Oh well, maybe it's just me, but I hate that crap.

Like most here I don't bother with the news, particularly from the chronic liars i.e. Coulter, Williams, O'Reilly, Drudge, Limbaugh and FOX in general.

I depend on more honest and reliable sources for my news, mainly my senses. If I wake up and I see that the planet and I are still here, well, it's a good news day.

" I was thinking, "Bitch, just tell us. If it's important tell me now." Oh well, maybe it's just me, but I hate that crap.

LOL! I think there was a SNL skit about that once. The whole broadcast was something like, "Tonight we'll tell you what deadly disease is sweeping the city, but first over to Jan with an important weather bulletin." Then Jan would say, "We will tell you which areas will be hit by a tornado but first over to John with the latest sports news." And it kept going...

I did horrid on the quiz, btw. I don't listen to the news either, I get mine online. And usually just the headlines, so I was familiar with the stories but not a lot of the details.

Except for Fox, you mentioned no one connected with NEWS. Perhaps you need to learn the difference between commentary and news? Then maybe you would include Fox for BALANCE against the rest of the liberal MSM.

Like I said, I don't bother with the news.

Television "news" is just entertainment and is more about ratings and political editorializing than accuracy or credible reporting.

I scored 100% on the quiz. I usually spend a few hours a day listening to the news channels on XM.
