conspiracy theories anyone?

It has to be a conspiracy! Why else have we had such a problem with our food supplies lately?! First it was the Spinach, then the Lettuces, then the peanut butter and now dog food?!

You tell me something is not wrong with this picuture? I can't believe that people's beloved pets have died because of the food they have eaten! It's so sad and should never have happened!

It's a good thing that no human died from the peanut butter they ate. Heavens forbids, everytime I remember that we ate a very large bottle and oen and half of a medium bottle of the tainted stuff it makes me shudder!

We were lucky. Some people did get sick, really badly. However, our four-legged buddies weren't so lucky! We're talking kidney failure and other ailments that I heard should not be.

"Aminopterin, also used as a cancer drug, is highly toxic in high doses. It inhibits the growth of malignant cells and suppresses the immune system."*

The Aminopterin was found on Wheat imported from China. In China and other countries they use it to kill rats. So rat poison is the reason for our four-legged friends kidney failures and thats what ended up killing them. It's so sad! They use it to kill rats, we use it to treat cancer....I don't know but this sounds so wrong I can't wrap my brain around it!

It's bad enough that our laws allow rat droppings and other insects that get into the manufacturing process of some foods Link, as I discovered in an article I wrote recently, but to import products and our agencies are not aware of the type of processes they go through....something should be done about that!

The pet food industry is not regulated, I certainly hope it will be now. As for foods that we eat, there are not enough people to go out and investigate the thousands of manufacturers, stores and restaurants in the food industry.

There is a need for change and the time is now!

I was appalled when I read the story. My wife and I would be devastated if we were to lose our Golden Retriever in such a needless and preventable way. Like you, I hope that the dog food industry starts being regulated.

I make my own food using this product http://www.urbanwolf.cc//

I was thinking the same thing when I read it. Don't we grow enough wheat here? What countries buy wheat from us? We need to keep our wheat here and let those countries get it's wheat from China.

So many of the "processed foods" like peanut butter,  bother me that I try to eat foods that are fresh.  I buy fresh vegies,  fruits,  and also frozen fish.

I think if we wash our lettuce, apples, tomatoes, ect.  then that cuts the chance of things like Ecoli almost to nothing.

Our foods though, you're right,  need to be protected and i hope that some new laws and regulations start happening.

Good article!!

Don't we grow enough wheat here?

Yes, just not enough for dog food apparently.

Yes, you guys are right about that! I wonder why we have to import it too. Then I thought about all the wheat that I do eat because it's supposed to be healthier for me!

Ubob, thanks for that link, I'll check it out later!

Agreed, washing very carefully is good to do, something I practise all the time. Even the pre-made veges need to be washed too!

Just to clear things up a bit, the company, Menu Foods, that makes and distributes over 95 different brands of pet foods in the United States and Canada is a Canadian based company. So, it is not the U.S. that is importing wheat from China, but Canada. Being a Canadian and a pet owner I am twice concerned about the whys and hows. I have friends here in Canada who are pet owners and many of them, unlike myself, just use regular store-bought food for their pets. So far we have not heard of any problems with their pets, thank goodness.

Thanks for letting us know! I had no idea...also that you're a Canadian!! I have to read you sometime - I'm playing catch up with everyone else! I'm glad your friends pets didn't have a problem!
