Life as I Know It; Family; Lifestyle; and Healthy Living!
I'm tired and it's been a very long day! I've been up for most of the night, last night. Tending to another sick child. Why does it always end up being the mommy's job to take the brunt of this situation. Sometimes dads just fall apart, maybe not fall apart, but they just look on helplessly and yell for tired mom to take action!

My youngest, the five year old, was sick all night last night so it was a night of watching and cleaning up after her and praying that whatever it is will pass on or else to the ER we go!

It might have been the eggs she ate; it might have been the cold cuts or it might have been the lunch she had earlier at school. All I know is we were relaxing on the couch in the living room late night, and she suddenly starts retching and spewing stuff all over the floor and me!

While I grabbed her and ran to the bathroom, hubby did the cleaning up. I gave her a bath and sat with her all night. She slept in my bed because I was afraid to leave her alone. They slept, I kept watch. Needless to say I changed her and beddings about five times til morning!

I was walking on my eyelash but was happy that she seemed to be ok. I gave her tea without milk and was going to make my downhome family recipe which usually works when you have food poisining. But changed my mind because I wasn't sure it would work this time.

Later on this morning I decided to take her to the ER just to be on the safe side. I dreaded it! We didn't wait for too long, well, four hours later and finally seeing the doctor, it wasn't STREP throat, which her brother had three weeks ago. It wasn't a throat infection or ear infection. They really couldn't diagnose her. She had no temperature at the time of vomitting, no diarriah and nothing else except vomitting.

She got a tablet which would help her to stop the vomitting and then I had to give her something to eat (courtesy of the ER dept) and we would play the wait and see game to see if it would work and stop the vomitting or not.

We spent another hour in observation. I spent the entire time nodding off and trying to feed her apple juice and keep her company. Dad went home to clean up and have dinner ready which I was thankful for!

Finally, it worked, no more vomitting! And she kept the food she ate down! She had a slight temperature of 100.1 but we were OK to leave as long as I keep an eye on the fever and give her Motrin or Tylenol. Which I"ve already done, since she's now safely tuck in bed in her room. She lucked out too, she received a nice teddy bear from the hospital! They made what could have been a miserable situation, tolerable and I"m grateful to the ER doctors and staff!

Although there's no pinpointing what could have caused her virus, at least she's alright for now.

I had my weekend all mapped out too! Friday night I was going to spend the evening watching all the shows I taped on the DVR, Saturday I was going to continue cleaning house and getting rid of junk around us! Sunday would have been the day of rest and relaxation to spend time with the family.

Now I"m so wiped out from lack of sleep and worry, well, no more plans for me! And my night is not over because I have to be sure she doesn't throw up again! "

You're a terrific mama in my book. Sleep well and sweet dreams, Donna.

I am sorry to read your little one was sick Donna.

Isn't that the worst way to spend the night, watching and cleaning up puke?  I always have a bucket handy and try to get it up and under before the spewing starts....but both my kids are "power pukers" so.......

I'm glad your husband helped you out.  That's always nice.

My little one has pink eye, and ear infection, and an upper respiratory infection.....not to mention I had to get staples in his head last week when he fell and cracked his head open.

Get some sleep woman.

My ex and I had an agreement.  She did blood, I did vomit.  I cannot stand blood, and she got sick with vomit.  So it was usually me when one of them "spit germs" (my oldest's term for vomitting).

It always gets better Forever. My kids are grown now but we should not wish them older too soon. The vomitting, sore heads, bruises and broken bones are all part of life. Kids are pretty resilient anyhow. Unlike Doc, I did the blood and the transport to the ER!

Sorry that your weekend didn't go as planned, Donna, but glad that your daughter is feeling better. Here is hoping you get at least a bit of rest before the new week starts.

Ah, just think... In 15 years time, you'll be missing all this (well, maybe not particularly this, but you get my drift) Hope your daughter is back in the pink, Serenity, and you've caught up on the sleep you've missed.

Aw, Donna.

I'm sorry your baby was sick. I'm glad she's doing better though. I agree with shovel. You're a *terrific* momma.

Sorry your weekend sucked.

I've been lucky to not have any of my children vomit in a very long time. But since I said that, I'm sure it will happen tomorrow.

That's ok, though, I got plenty of vomit when I was pregnant, so I'm all maxed out! Hehe.
