A JU Survey of a different kind!

I'm laughing because I had every intention of writing about this for a while now but didn't, less i seem to be nitpicking or something! But seeing Gene's article made me decide to! Link

I know we all love to write and that's why we are here, the fact that others are able to read and respond to what we write is very intoxicating and quite refreshing! To think that hey, someone is interested in what I wrote, you know what I mean? It gives you a certain feeling of pleasure, doesn't it for you? It does for me!lol!

I've always wondered if people care whether other bloggers care to comment on their articles. Scratch that! I know some of us do and try to respond to each comment, which is the polite thing to do. I have noticed the opposite as well. Some writers fail to acknowledge or even respond to comments left on their blogs.

That always leave me perplexed and wondering that maybe I shouldn't have bothered or maybe that person doesn't even want me there! Sometimes it wouldn't phase me but there are times when I wonder about it. Thus I've began to not bother with some of my regular readings because I can take a hint!

Then seeing Gene's blog made me think, first, that was so nice of him to say something because I wondered about that (as I've seen others do before too), because whether we like to think it or not, it makes us wonder "was it something I said?" or something like that!

It's the polite thing to do after all, even if you don't respond individually to each comment, don't you think?! I know everyone gets busy and perhaps they don't bother looking back at past articles, but wouldn't it be the expected thing to do?

So JUsers, do you like responding to comments left on your blogs, if not, why don't you?

[Note: This is in no way a complaint against any articles I've responded to in the past and have gotten no response, this is just a matter of curiosity about human behaviour!}

I think most of would agree it's pleasant to get comments, it's a feeling of belonging to a community.

Most definitely Trudy! Nice to 'see' you!

One or two times now I've not known that someone had left comments, long after the post died a natural death, and so finally responded rather late.

That happens and that's alright too!

I like to respond to comments

I respond to around 99% of comments left on my blogs.

I know!

I also don't always respond to comments if they are the same as others I've already commented on.

I understand!

Like Tova, I see responses as part of an online 'conversation' and I like to respond to all comments.

Uh, uh...this I know!

I know often times the article has already gone through the initial rush of comments and respones and the blogger in question has moved on to their next article.

Yes, this is true too, many bloggers do write a lot more than some so it's not a matter of them being rude, but that they have moved on. It's still good to check though if the article is not say more than five days old, just a thought!

it doesn't bother me one little bit, but it is always nice to see a response to a comment I've left.

Gotcha Mark!

Thx you guys for giving me some feedback and responding to my survey!lol! My apologies for not responding right away, tied up with mommy stuff, see, shit happens!!

I think out of politeness and appreciation, one should respond to comments. However, I know that sometimes we get behind on our blogs, and something called "life" beckons us...and we don't always do it.

As long as I get responded to on a semi-regular or semi-semi regular basis, I'm okay with it...it's better than nothing.

I know Rose, and we all fall into that from time to time!

Lots of reasons!

We all have to pick and choose what we spend our time on here, some days I have very little time to sit and write, others it seems like im online all day. I hope you don't get miffed at me if you feel neglected at times, FS--you knows I luvs ya!

Good reasons Whip! And no, I don't get miffed!lol! You're actually pretty good at giving responses I find! Nothing to worry about there!

I rarely write articles but when I do I try to answer every comment. If a reader took the time to leave input I think it's only fair I take the time to answer them.

As for people not responding to any comment I made, I don't take it personally. I figure they're just busy. Though there has been a few times when I actually laughed out loud when my comment was the ONLY one not responded to. It made me feel special.

The one thing I am terrible at is leaving comments. I try to get to JU as least one time a day. I try to read as many blogs I find interesting a day, and what do I do after reading a thought-provoking article? Not a damn thing. Most of the time other readers have left opinions I would've liked to express. So I won't repeat what the commenters said, I tell myself I will come back to it later and try to add something else in the mix. Then I forget about it and by the time I do have something else the thread has died. The result is I never left anything. I need to leave comments I have in my head even if they're similar to anyone else's.

! I think we've all had those moments at one time or another!

Yeah, it's kinda difficult that way. Most times when that happens I sometimes don't say anything or I'll just say, yeah, I agree with so and so!
