Inside the recent toy recalls
Published on August 6, 2007 By foreverserenity In Current Events
I was surprise to hear last week about toys that are being recalled because their lead content was enough to be of danger to our children! Why is that so? According to the news report I just listened to, the government do check (i.e., inspect) products coming in but they can only do so much! To me both the government, to reinforce their rules, and the company that will sell the toys, should be working in tandem to make sure what comes in to our country is safe.

Fisher-Price and it's parent company Mattel Inc., are recalling over 967,000 toys! The source of this debacle is a company from China, one that Fisher-Price has worked with for a long time. They didn't realise that the company had used lead-based paint to decorate it's toys. Now they are putting better systems in place to make sure this does not happen again.

The good thing is that the problem has been caught and they are working on it. My only question is, if children hadn't died, I think one child died (I might be wrong, but I believe that's what the news said) and other children gotten ill from this, would the company ever had found this out? I think not!

The same as with our foods and tires and now our children's toys, better systems do need to be in place to protect us. It is unacceptable for this to happen, a loss of life, or people being very ill, before the powers that be realise that their system is not working!

If you missed the recall, here is the link to the story Link and a direct link to the toy company's website Link ; and Mattel's recall hot line at 800-916-4498.

Great Link and article.

The same reason we continue to import tainted Chicken and other foods-- The Bush trade policy of FREE TRADE is MORE important then the safety of Americans. We hear that China does not have the inspection mechanism to insure the safety of their exports. It is the responsibility of the U.S. Government to PROTECT Americans and that is not taking place. Bush has CUT funding for the FDA and we have less inspectors at a time when we see greater and greater food and drug imports.

WHY are we still importing lead based products? George W. Bush.

FS,

I can't speak to now, but as recently as 1996, we were MAKING lead based products in the US. The rubber pads on wooden crutches were being made from a plastic with a led base.

How do I know this? Did I do an expose of the crutch industry? Nope. I made these parts in a factory in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Because of the convenience of these parts, we used seconds for everything imaginable. I Had taken the handles out because of their round shape for my wife to grip when she was in labor with our oldest. When I found out the parts had led in them, we immediately took our oldest to be testeed, and she came out with a slightly elevated lead level that we quickly brought down due to rapid attention.

Thx! I have a younger one who enjoys those toys and still tend to put things in her mouth some of the times!

It doesn't seem that they do since a lot of their products have problems.

Since I've lived in this country, more than 20 years, that has been the issue. I've lived here since Reagan was president so it's been a problem all around.

Bush watched the NAFTA policy under Clinton FAIL. He choose to expand that failed policy and made the problem twice as big as under Clinton. WHO would you blame for that?

Read THIS:

I have acknowledged that past presidents have not addressed many of the issues you mention. I NEVER said Bush started all our problems. What I said is that he has failed to effectively deal with the many issues that he was handed in January 2001. NAFTA is a perfect example. Clinton made an error with NAFTA and for eight years it clearly showed it did not help our country- Either our companies or workers. What did Bush do? Rather then look at how this failed he expanded it and made the problem (Trade Deficit & lost jobs) twice as big as Clinton.

When we were attacked and it became clear that we were in danger from foreign terrorists, rather then effectively deal with those that were responsible for attacking us, he made it look like Saddam was responsible which he was told he was NOT and took our nation into a war in Iraq that was unneeded and has resulted in getting us bogged down in a NO WIN situation. Here again Bush was warned by people with experience in that part of the world what the likely outcome would be to send American Military into Iraq. He ignored them and created the mess we have today.

Bush was handed a BALANCED Budget for the first time in decades. He immediately adopted the very same fiscal policy that started the spiral of large debt increases in 1981 which has resulted in the largest increase in the National Debt in our history.

He acknowledged the problem with our dependence on foreign oil at the outset of his first term and has produced NOTHING to make ANY improvement. In fact we are MORE dependent in 2007 then in 2001 on foreign oil.

He correctly acknowledges the long standing problem of insufficient money to pay the promised benefits to the Baby Boomers under Social Security. He appointed a panel that started out with his notion of creating private accounts which provided no solution to the issue of paying the benefits to the Boomers. In face it made the existing problem worse by diverting money currently promised to par Social Security Benefits to the boomers into the proposed private accounts. He made NO suggestion how that was to be replaced or how to provide the solution to the initial problem of not having enough money in the Trust Fund to pay the boomer benefits.

He ignored the greater problem with Medicare and then supported Part D with NO added funding to pay for the largest increase in entitlements since the 1960's. Now we have Medicare that this year will go negative and pay out MORE then it takes in because Bush added $60 Billion more in entitlement with ZERO added funding.

He has conducted a war that will cost at least a Trillion Dollars with NO funding. In all past wars we have enacted an added tax to pay the increased cost of the war. Bush added it to the deficit so we can pay interest on the cost of the Iraq War.

Every one of these situations is TRUE. They all result from the choices and policies of Bush that he got through the GOP controlled Congress. These are facts not stories to make Bush LOOK BAD!

Thanks Gideon. I accidently read the previous post and my IQ went down 10 points.

As for the article, it is a pattern.  A pattern of how CHina is staring to lose its edge (India is crowding them out along with other nations as CHina approaches industrial powerhouse), so it is starting to cheat.
