Inside the recent toy recalls
I was surprise to hear last week about toys that are being recalled because their lead content was enough to be of danger to our children! Why is that so? According to the news report I just listened to, the government do check (i.e., inspect) products coming in but they can only do so much! To me both the government, to reinforce their rules, and the company that will sell the toys, should be working in tandem to make sure what comes in to our country is safe.
Fisher-Price and it's parent company Mattel Inc., are recalling over 967,000 toys! The source of this debacle is a company from China, one that Fisher-Price has worked with for a long time. They didn't realise that the company had used lead-based paint to decorate it's toys. Now they are putting better systems in place to make sure this does not happen again.
The good thing is that the problem has been caught and they are working on it. My only question is, if children hadn't died, I think one child died (I might be wrong, but I believe that's what the news said) and other children gotten ill from this, would the company ever had found this out? I think not!
The same as with our foods and tires and now our children's toys, better systems do need to be in place to protect us. It is unacceptable for this to happen, a loss of life, or people being very ill, before the powers that be realise that their system is not working!
