Life as I Know It; Family; Lifestyle; and Healthy Living!

I heard this on the television earlier and I realise how true that is! Our humanity is what makes us human! We are compassionate, loving, giving, kind. At the other end of the spectrum is that which makes us inhuman.

So much so, that there are times we forget to be humane. It's happening to so many of us. We rush around going about our business, living our lives, as we should. But some of us are forgetting ourselves.

I see it everyday, people rushing around, being careless with their own lives, and the lives of others. It's like that article that Draginol posted recently about the mom who was trying to out run the train and ended up in a position that I knew she would never have envision, the death of some of her children.

People do stupid things on the road all the time. They are in a hurry, they have to get where they are going NOW! You have to get out of their way or be run over! At the traffic light I usually wait two seconds after the light changes to green because somehow, there is always that one moran who runs the light on their side! I've missed a couple of them, thank heavens, by listening to that voice that says "wait a minute" in my ear.

I wonder where they are going that is so important that they risk their lives and the lives of others? Then there are those drivers who refuse to drive properly when making a turn at a major intersection! They take so long to maneuver their vehicle, if you don't watch it, you get stuck in the middle of the intersection when it's time for the other side to go!

We forget that there are some people out there who are not as fortunate as others. Or there are many who go through bad patches in their lives. Or there are those who just can never seem to get it together, no matter what!

I usually see this lady walking around at the grocery parking lot. She usually approaches me with the same story, "I'm trying to get some money for food". If I have it, I'll give her something. If I don't, I tell her I can't. The first time I did it because she was with a child. Then a couple of times by herself. Once I gave her food I had in the car that I had just bought. Then I realise that this woman doesn't really need help. If she did, wouldn't she go to where she knows the help is.? I also noticed she was getting dirtier and dirtier each time I see her, and she was losing weight. Signs I knew of people who might be on something, drugs, alcohol...who knows. I stopped giving to her because I don't think she wants to help herself. I guess I am being judgemental! I have no idea what her circumstances is but I realise that there are those people who you just cannot help!

There are other people out there who just can't seem to make their lives work and it's not for lack of trying! Some get sucked into a cycle of never ending nothing! It's not easy when that happens and it takes a large will of effort to make any changes that will make a difference in their lives.

The thing I'm getting at is to not be too quick to judge others. Give a smile to someone who might just need to see one. Reach out to someone you know who might need your help, it doesn't have to be monetary, not everything is about money! Heck even your boss might need a little help with something that has been overwhelming him! Maybe do your job eh?!lol!

But seriously, there are some people who need more attention that others, some who are not as quick-witted and might take a little longer to complete a sentence or to even get a word out. Some whose ideas just are not worth even looking at. Don't pretend to listen, or care, really take the time to show that you understand and that they are not alone.

And for heaven sakes, people do slow down on the roads! And if you missed your turn, don't tie up traffic, get to the next turning lane and go back around, just like you would have to do if you were on the highway!

Most of all, don't forget that your humanity makes you human!

Good article Donna.

Some days I live by my humanity, and others I live by well, the other end.  I hate to admit it, but I am a slave to my body.  If I am feeling sick or tired I get snappy and grouchy.  Making my life and the lives of everyone around me less bright.

Maybe the next time you see the woman in the parking lot you can give her a piece of paper with the number to a shelter or drug clinic?  And then enough change to make the call.

I won't deny to be speedy driver. I don't drive fast cause I'm in a rush, I just do. But I'm a careful driver, taking lights is not something I do unless I'm already at the line when its turning red and I'm going a bit too fast to stop. While its no excuse, I can understand why some, not all, people might find themselves taking lights at particular intersections. One of the problems I hate so much here in West Palm Beach is that the traffic lights in some of the major roads are not properly synchronized. At times drivers catch 4 lights in a row within a couple of miles which can be very annoying even when running on time. Especially on roads with many small streets crossing multi lane roads, there are several traffic lights that change red as the other changes green making people move about 100 feet before they have to stop again and again. Then we have the turning lanes with multiple lanes on heavy roads that change really fast and people get stuck in the middle, combine that with the small street intersections and you got yourself New York down south.

But this is still no excuse for irresponsible driving. That is why I drive defensively. As far as I'm concerned every car in the street has a dangerous driver behind the wheel and I keep my eye on as many as I can, predicting those who "will" do stupid things as often as possible.

Our humanity AND our falibility make us human. If we were not falible, then we would be as God.

I guess the real test is how you want to live your life and try to. Knowing that we will not always suceed at it, but not letting that stop us from trying.

Some prefer to define this duality by assigning 'good' or 'evil' to various human traits, attributing one set to 'God' and the other to 'Satan' or one set to the divine or spiritual and the other to earthly or 'animal' urges and desires.

Our humanity AND our falibility make us human.

Heh, heh. Moderation is key. Everything's about balance be it chemistry, morality, or even those dreaded politics.

Good article Donna.

Thx Tonya!

It happens to most of us so don't feel bad! If I'm in a bad mood I try to keep it to myself, the operative word is try!

Maybe the next time you see the woman in the parking lot you can give her a piece of paper with the number to a shelter or drug clinic? And then enough change to make the call.

I thought about doing that but I recently found out there are three of them (a man included) and they tag team. The same woman has approached me about three times in one hour! I realise that it's not so much that she's hurting for money, although she probably is, or food, but rather it is a habit that they do and it's become a job in away for them! If my mind tells me to give, and I have it, I do, and there or times I just say I can't. But I think I will do that next time I give her something - have a number to give her!

I've got to disagree with you here, Donna.

Rolls up sleep...er...sleeve...(it's late here and it's been a long day!) OK, lets hug it out!lol!

Sure, love and compassion, generousity and kindness are all human traits. But so are indifference, hate, selfishness, and cruelty.

Agreed!

Some prefer to define this duality by assigning 'good' or 'evil' to various human traits, attributing one set to 'God' and the other to 'Satan' or one set to the divine or spiritual and the other to earthly or 'animal' urges and desires.

Agreed again!

For example, Hitler was widely 'loved' by his people, and in this case, that love helped wreak havoc on the world because it put him in power.

OK....

Selfishness is not always a bad thing, if you give away the rent money to some homeless person...you risk homelessness yourself, right?

Absolutely and an idiotic thing to do as I would be joining said tag team on the street! There's always self preservation no matter what!

Even cruelty can be justified, if that's what it takes to advance a worthy lesson, cause, or idea, but only when other means have failed.

Agreed! You argue well my friend!

No matter how you look at it though, bad drivers just plain ol' suck. They suck hard. They suck often. They suck the big wazoo!Be careful out there, my friend.

Let me tell you, if there can be a three-car pile up on a very straight road....that was this morning..I have no idea what these people are doing when they drive! THe awfol thing that happened to a friend of a friend of a friend.....driving on the highway, pulling out from their entrance ramp, jumped in front of a truck coming at a certain speed and the truck couldn't slow down in time....ran over their car, only one survived! People don't think, they just act!

And thanks I try to be careful with all the madness!

I don't drive fast cause I'm in a rush, I just do

And there are many drivers who do. I have driven fast because of being in a rush, and I'm careful not to put others or myself in danger....I try not to let this happen too often because I see what happens when I do rush....and I don't like it, so that means better planning on my part! That makes me as guilty as everyone else too!

! Happens here in Orlando too!

Agreed and yes, so do I!

Our humanity AND our falibility make us human. If we were not falible, then we would be as God.

Can you imagine what earth would be like if we all were Gods, or even God-like with some powers or something?! Thank heavens that's all not likely!!

I guess the real test is how you want to live your life and try to. Knowing that we will not always suceed at it, but not letting that stop us from trying.

Yes! Not letting anything stop you, that's the key!

Heh, heh. Moderation is key. Everything's about balance be it chemistry, morality, or even those dreaded politics.

True Zoo! Moderation in everything!
