Get out of here!
Published on December 17, 2007 By foreverserenity In Gaming
This caught my eye as I logged on to the computer in the wee hours of this AM. "Dad sells son $90 video game for more than 9000 dollars"! Of course I had to read the story because I can't imagine what and how and why!

Apparently the dad, a school teacher bought his son Guitar Hero III for the Wii as a Christmas gift. He came home unexpectedly and found his son with his two friends in the backyard smoking pot so to punish the son, mainly, and out of anger no doubt, the dad put the video game for sale on Ebay!

It was purchased for $9,100 by someone from Australia! Here's a link to the story: Link

On another note, I didn't realise the Wii or some of it's games would be in such short supply even after a year of it being out! It has been a year hasn't it? I've heard of so many people trying to get a hold of one and they have to do stakeouts in order to be the first to get a unit to buy at most stores around here. My friend has her family members all over Texas looking for one even though she lives here in Florida. She's trying to get it for her grandsons. Apparently the supply doesn't match the demand! I'm getting one for my family.

I did the next smart thing I could think of instead of staking out department or specialty stores at 4am! I went to my local pawn shop and requested a phone call the next time one comes in there. I've bought my son's Gamboy Advance and SP there prior and they were all in very good condition and they have been perfectly fine! Guess what, sure enough, one did! I'm set with my own Wii with a $20 off the retail price too! So I suggested my friend do that but she didn't listen and still hasn't found one. I checked again and they even told me they had another one in and it went out the same day! Those things are selling like hot cakes! I didn't let my son know about it yet, but it will be the big reveal for our Christmas!

As for the Guitar Hero game my son and I tried out the newer version for the Wii at our local GameStop recently. It was a lot of fun but difficult - at least for me! Considering that there were some available at places like GameStop (I guess there's a shortage where he is) but I'm surprise that dad had to pay $90 online to buy one and that someone else would even have to pay $9,100 for it!

This was posted to JU.

Exactly!

You guys need to stop getting your panties all in wad whenever an article gets cross-posted. You don't own the site

Exactly! I posted it in the correct genre, and I selected general discussion! If you noticed anything I post is what I think would be of interest to others as well as to myself! What is he talking about spamming and drivel?! JU gets spammed by idiots who want to be noticed! And just because you might be a gamer doesn't mean that you insult others who you don't consider to be the same! And neilo, like I said, your second comment was a reasonable discussion opinion, your first wasn't!
on Dec 17, 2007
LOL. Get banned! That's hilarious. Yes, please, please report me to everyone you can think of. Ding me for as many trolling points as you can.

This is pure comedy gold.

I'll email Brad and Karma myself and tell them I've been bad if you want! Hahahahaha.
on Dec 17, 2007
This story is BS, period.
on Dec 17, 2007
He doesn't understand how the cross-posting from JU to the other sites work.

I think you put the article in the appropriate place and I found it interesting and a worthwhile topic for discussion.

Neilo: Just an FYI. Cursing is allowed on JU.
on Dec 17, 2007
Now again and for the last time, i insulted/attacked whatever you call it a web site, not you nor anyone else. And i refrained from using offensive language. Maybe they allow that on joeuser but not here.So in response to my non offensive worded opinion of the article and you guys and my insult of the web site, you guys respond with offensive personal insults, and continuing to do so at that.

We're obviously speaking another language since you don't seem to understand what you wrote and why we responded to you in a like manner. Try reading up on what JU is and also re-read the entire article and the link, and your response, and look for the meaning of the word Toilet, and when it's used in reference to anything other than what one is supposed to do in it! Then you might understand the hornet's nest you created! I bid you adeu, it's late and my bed calls!

Yahoo does sometimes accidentally pick up fake news stories and pass them on as legitimate news. I can't imagine anyone would pay $9k for a video game, especially something that is readily available, but if the story is false, it's yahoo who has erred here.
on Dec 17, 2007
This story definitely seems a little off...

He doesn't understand how the cross-posting from JU to the other sites work.

Would you mind enlightening me (and any others)?
on Dec 17, 2007
Neilo, why would FS debate you about this? I found your first post about the game being widely available in Australia interesting but could have done without the lead-in.

This is just more crap over flowing from the toilet that joeuser has become. If these are the topics being discussed there, no wonder you spam this site.

Flame me all you want but to post this drivel and to believe it deserves such a response.

This part is annoying. It doesn't invite a response for debate. Maybe you didn't find it offensive, but it sure smacked of a personal attack. And if you don't get that, then let me enlighten you. The part where you refer to it "This [which most readers will understand to be the article which FS wrote] is just more crap" doesn't refer to JoeUser but to her article.

Now again and for the last time, i insulted/attacked whatever you call it a web site, not you nor anyone else. And i refrained from using offensive language.

Are you kidding here? I can think of several reasons you might actually believe that. The only flattering one is that you didn't proof-read.

It's too bad. I think things could have evovled into an interesting discussion of gaming, and fake news stories.

I will, however, thank you for the comedy. I have to agree with Tex on that one.

on Dec 17, 2007
Umm, pretty easy. Certain categories (like gaming or personal computing) cross-post. Things posted on JU in those categories are also posted on some of the other sites. I don't know exactly which ones post to where specifically, but for some reason it's a HUGE deal when a JU blog gets cross-posted elsewhere.

Interestingly, we over here on JU don't attack you guys when something you post is cross-posted over here.

on Dec 17, 2007
Neilo,

You should learn to use a search engine before you decide to call people stupid and naive. You see, I Goggled: eBay guitar hero 9100.

It returned a top search result of a tech blog titled: Australia’s riches gamer.

Link

Clicking on that reveled...

Link

Tex said it best...

neilo: Fuck off.

Oh and learn to use the fucking quote feature. It's easy. Even someone as simple as you should be able to get it.
on Dec 17, 2007

please continue this line of behaviour, if anything it will get you banned and stop these post on this site.

My opinion.

neilo,

I am quite certain that you are not admin, and if you check TOU carefully, I'm pretty certain you'll find that trying to act like you ARE admin is likely to get you banned.

YOU attacked FS, pointlessly, because she DARED post this on the GalCiv site. For the record, we have no control over what cross posts, nor is there a big neon sign to let us know that is happening. While we've figured out most of them, every once in awhile, we post on one we don't realize will cross over.

You had a point initially, a pretty good one, actually, that this story has a fishy smell to it. And you could have said that without attacking the OP, and, in fact, if you'd have had much experience in online forums at all, you would have done so. Your response was bad form on your part, and I assure you that, while I am NOT admin, they will have no problems with FS or TW's comments.

Seriously, man, if a bogus story about a $9000 video game is all it takes to get you to blow your stack, you need to get a life!

This is pure comedy gold.

I'll email Brad and Karma myself and tell them I've been bad if you want! Hahahahaha.

Good to see that your sense of humor is fine. Not that i intially intended that comment that way, but i can see the funnier side to it.

He doesn't understand how the cross-posting from JU to the other sites work.

No, i don't. As far as i know, to post here one must sign up to Galciv2 and log in and post, if there is another way i don't know about it.

but if the story is false, it's yahoo who has erred here.

Thats fine and i agree, but since my argument is about you guys believing it and posting "crap" as i put it, onto websites other than where it is intended, the point is rather moot.

The part where you refer to it "This [which most readers will understand to be the article which FS wrote] is just more crap" doesn't refer to JoeUser but to her article.

I did address the point of this being taken as a personal insult. I wrote,
I did not insult you or anyone else in the thread. If you believe that, for that alone i will apologize, my frustrations are at the article not you.

Again, i will echo that comment and say that my comments were inflammatory toward joeuser.com. If they were taken as a personal insult then for that i will apologize. That was not the intent.

Are you kidding here? I can think of several reasons you might actually believe that. The only flattering one is that you didn't proof-read.

I'm sorry but i have missed your point here. If it was pertaining to above, than i have addressed this.

but for some reason it's a HUGE deal when a JU blog gets cross-posted elsewhere.

There is a whole story behind the problems with many topics from JU finding there way over here and causing many issues. Granted, most of these are in the Off-Topic thread and center around the religious and political theatre but many are just perceived as spam.

Interestingly, we over here on JU don't attack you guys when something you post is cross-posted over here.

Of that i don't doubt. JU is an open forum there is not set topic, this is a game site which bothers many people when Off-topic threads are posted here. And yes i know this was listed in gaming, i was not referring to this thread in particular.

All in all i still believe that offensive language should not be allowed. It is frowned upon here and if any post from JU can find it's way over here, then it should be frowned upon there too.

It's too bad. I think things could have evovled into an interesting discussion of gaming, and fake news stories.

It certainly is, and my comments only add to the debate, when taken as they were intended. "F*uck Off" on the other hand does not further the debate but only incites what we have here.

This can still be debated, in the end, what is the point in debating something unless people are in disagreence?
on Dec 17, 2007
neilo,

I am quite certain that you are not admin, and if you check TOU carefully, I'm pretty certain you'll find that trying to act like you ARE admin is likely to get you banned.

Your right i am not admin and nor did i then, or ever portray that i was.

I guess this is pointless, but again, i attacked no-one. I attacked the quality of a web site based on my opinions of an article and thread posted there.

I don't know how i can be more clear on that. I have not used offensive language, many of you have. I have not called anyone any derogatory names. I offered an opinion that the article is crap and that anyone who believes it must be naive.

while I am NOT admin, they will have no problems with FS or TW's comments.

Again, admins here on Galciv2.com do have problems with offensive language. I'm sure every other part of their comments are perfectly fine.

just john.

Where did i call someone stupid? Thats right no where. So if you are going to attack me and tell me to learn to use a search engine, then how about you read the posts you are commenting about.

I did read the article and your links. Do you believe everything ever written?

And as far as the quote feature, i could say the same about many of the posts here, but i figured as most smart people would, that it is a difference in the web pages of both sites that make the quotes the way they are.

Pretty smart for someone as simple as me.

This was posted to JU.

Exactly!

It reads 'forums.galciv2.com' in my address bar. That's all that counts for me.

Cursing is allowed on JU.

It isn't on GalCiv2, where we are reading this.
on Dec 17, 2007

Again, admins here on Galciv2.com do have problems with offensive language. I'm sure every other part of their comments are perfectly fine.

FTR, the usual rule of thumb on JU is that if it is on your own blog site there is a tad bit more leeway than if it is on someone elses, and that individual finds it offensive.

Glad you're willing to at least come back and discuss the situation instead of slinking away. In my extremely arrogant, biased opinion, there was nothing wrong with the second post; it was the first that really set things off.

Water under the bridge, though, as far as I'm concerned.
