Tom Selleck

As a teen one of my favorite television shows, (in fact, my entire family loved this show!) was Magnum P.I.  It was wholesome fun and filled with lots of adventures!

We loved it because the star, Tom Selleck made it so good, along with his co-stars, John Hillerman as Higgins (aka Robin Masters – I always thought so anyway!), Roger Mosley as TC and Larry Manetti as Rick!  Plus don’t forget those two loveable Dobermans!

I’ve heard the rumors time and again that there will be a remake of Magnum P.I. First they were thinking of casting George Clooney in the role, but he’s not doing it now.  I like George, but as Magnum, no way!

It was Tom Selleck and only Tom Selleck that made me appreciate men in moustache!  He looked so good, how could I and every other girl and woman who watched him not have a major crush?!  He was suave, debonair and a knight without the shining armor!

The chemistry between the four men was great!  So how is it that anyone from Hollywood who plan to remake this television show into a movie not remember that?

The original cast members are all still alive, the last time I checked, and they all still look damn fine!  So what’s the problem here?  Have you guys seen Tom on the television show Vegas recently?  He still has that star quality and the camera loves him!  So he’s a bit older, and maybe slower, so what?  He still looks fiiiinneee!

Now I’ve heard that Matthew McConaughey will be the one to play the role of Thomas Magnum!  OK, I have nothing against Matthew, and he has starred in a few movies that I’ve enjoyed seeing him in.  He’s handsome, has a great body, and is as young as the Magnum character was back in the day.  But if they are going to start off with the same premise, Viet Nam vet, etc, they have got to be kidding!

We the fans of Magnum P.I. need continuity and we need to see all the loveable characters come back in this movie!  It would be great to see them all again, see where they are at, follow up with them and join them in their new adventure!  Why is this so hard for Hollywood to do?

I know they are probably trying to go for a new, younger audience, but I’m sure the new generation of movie goers would enjoy seeing this movie with its original cast and premise in tact!  So it doesn’t have to be the same storyline, it should be a good plot but with some continuity!

If they are going to go with McConaughey, then they need to re-write the premise of the show and not call him Thomas Sullivan Magnum, and not call the other people they cast, TC, Rick or even Higgins!  It just won’t wash!

I hope that the remake of Magnum P.I. doesn’t go in the same trash can as The Dukes of Hazards, and Miami Vice!  While those two movies were OK and great for the younger generation of stars and movie fans, the fact that Hollywood continued with the same premise made them failures in many people’s eyes!

Hollywood movie makers need to make up their minds, they need to either re-make the old movies with new, younger casts and make the scripts really good, or they need to offer the roles to the original casts or fit them in somehow so as to make their movie a success.

It's too bad that they can't come up with anything original anymore.  I really can't think of one movie that was based off a TV show that was good.  Some might have made some money but I can't think of one that I thought, "I'm glad they decided to remake that into a movie with new people".

Okay, the only remake that I love is the new Battlestar Gallatica.  I know it's different because it's series not a movie.  Also, I really don't remember the details of the original.

If they were going to remake Magnum with all the original cast it would be better if it was a TV movie. I think more people would see it then. I don't see the original cast drawing people to a theatre. I think you'll need a bigger well-known cast.

Matthew McConaughey is definitely a bigger name but when was his last good movie.

I think the problem with most remakes is they(Hollywood producers) only think as far as the remake. They're like, "Hey let's remake The Beverly Hillbillies. People liked that show so we'll make money." Then they try to cast it right all while forgeting the most important thing. A good story.

I can think of 2 real quick I liked. The Fugitive and The Untouchables. Also I would have to say the Star Trek movies were better than the show.

I never watched the fugitive or the untouchables TV shows so I guess I had no preconceived ideas in my head about them. I thought they were both good movies though.

I haven't been watching the new Galatica.  I guess there is a need to re-vamp a program when it's not getting as large a viewing audience as in the beginning but they, the producers fail to realise it's probably because the original writers usually goes for one reason or the other, then the program just limps along and becomes stupid!

You have a point there Chris!  I think they should remake it as a tv movie!  I enjoyed the fugitive and the untouchables too!
