Life as I Know It; Family; Lifestyle; and Healthy Living!

There they go, blowing in the wind, my inhibitions!  I now understand what all those "talking heads" mean when they say the older you get the more you tend to enjoy your life.  It's not that I didn't enjoy life in my teens, or twenties  or thirties..good Lord no....in fact, my late teens and my twenties were some of the best years of my life.

Now in my forties, let me tell you, I've let go of some hang ups, remember I said 'some') and am trying to really live my life the way how I want my life to be.

I recently started riding a bike (cycling) again.  Let me tell you, it's not been easy doing that!  The last time I did, actually the first time I did, I blogged about it. The good thing is I haven't fallen off, I'm so careful and move quite gingerly, (in the beginning) or more carefully so as not to get hurt, or hurt anyone!LOL!

I've been bike riding, not on the street, no I'm not ready for that yet, but rather in and around our neighborhood complex and it's been a heck of a lot of fun!  I've even upgraded to cruising!  Let me tell you that is so much fun, didn't realise I could do that!  My kids get a kick out of my childish delight!

My oldest came over to hang out.  It got late and my youngest wanted to go riding. I said to her that it's really late, and asked her if she wasn't tired.  After all the activities we did that day, an hour hike/walk, swimming for two hours - the pool, running around doing errands, she going outside to play, the girl is just crazy nuts, not tired!

So I said, you know what, why not, lets go for a couple of rounds!  So the three of us went outside to put the pedal to the medal.  There we were, the three of us, almost midnight and we were pedalling around the complex!  There were a few people still hanging outside who must have thought we were crazy but I didn't care!  The night was cool and the riding was fun.  It was a perfect end to a perfect day!

Cycling is great exercise as well as loads of fun. You're wise to practice your riding skills before going onto the streets. While I enjoy riding and do vehicular cycling all the time, it can be quite dangerous due to inattentive or selfish drivers and a lack of riding skills only compounds the problem.

I do hope you're wearing a good quality helmet. They really are worth it and can save your brain pan in case of a crash. If you don't already have them, install mirrors before attempting to ride on the streets. Handlebar mounted or helmet mounted both work although I prefer handlebar mounted myself.

Good bright flashing lights front and rear also serve to get the attention of motorists day or night, and can save your life.

Make sure you understand the traffic laws regarding vehicular cycling. You can read up on them via the web. In most states bicycles are required to follow all of the same laws as motor vehicles, as well as a few special ones such as riding as far to the right on the roadway as practical (unless making a left turn).

OK, I'm off my soapbox now. I truly enjoy cycling and do take the safety aspects seriously.

I tend to agree -if you just relax and let it. Which I think is something that comes with the years. Heh, nice to think there's something good that comes with the years.

Glad you're enjoying the cycling! Me? I ride mine doing errands (like to the barber shop yesterday) or to work or to the high school track when I do my "hill running speed stuff" (fartleks!  ), but to say cycling is my "thing," well...no, it's really not. But you know what they say! Different strokes for different folks! Hang in there...

No way, this was great ! Thx for the tips and advice.  I'll be sure to follow them all!  I will make sure we're all fully equipped before we venture beyond our fences!

LOL! Yes, fartleks!  I do like the cycling, even hubby does too.  He was a bad-ass biker (actual bikes) back in the day!  He usually cycles around with us too.   You keep up those hill running stuff!

I'm in the process of getting my bike repaired so I too can join the pedalling ranks.  Of all the static exercises I've been doing at the gym, bike riding is my favourite by far.  I'm looking forward to getting back in the saddle.  I want to ride to work as it will be quicker than catching to bus.

As for letting your inhibitions go, well I agree.  I think when you get to our age, we realise life isn't meant to be taken so seriously and is supposed to be fun and adventurous.

I started to ride to work in part to SAVE GA$! And the added benifit it's good Xtraining for me too.

Although bike ridin' isn't really my "thing" I am seriously considering this: WWW Link I think I can do 100 miles on a bike!

Yeah! You know I didn't realise I would come to love it as much. Last night I was feeling tensed and I jumped on the bike and cycle for a good 10 mins, at a good speed, felt great! My little one just loves it more than ever. She usually bikes with the neighborhood kids or they use her bike a lot and it's great cycling with mommy!
