The Specatacle that has become the Media's Sweetheart
Published on June 2, 2008 By foreverserenity In The Media

Once again we are subjected to the going-ons at the Trinity United Church, a church I, and I'm sure a lot of Americans didn't know existed (unless they attended it) until Obama began his candidacy for President!

First it was the much talked about, and You-Tubed Reverend Wright (a black man) who got his '15 mins' of fame and then some!    Dragged into the limelight to let it be known that the aspiring candidate for President is not a good person because he attends a church that is allegedly racist!  Yes, how convenient!  How convenient that this all comes to light when I'm sure that what has been said and done has been going on for a long time.

Now here we are again, another pastor, this time he's White, spewing hatred and reverse racism!  And there they are, those Black people in the congregation jumping and clapping and agreeing with everything their pastor is saying!  Look at them, didn't believe it?  Didn't really think that Black people felt and behaved that way about White people?  Well, there's your proof! So says the responsible and beloved Media, once again, they have outdone themselves!

Or is it once again, the machinations, the ploys of someone or some organization who wants to make sure that candidate running for President, that candidate who seemingly might have a chance at being nominated, doesn't stand a chance in hell, doesn’t get a chance to because as long as the hype is kept in the forefront of people's mind, well, If the congregation of the Trinity United Church thinks and act this way and seemingly agrees with everything that was said, then All of Black America does too!  There you have it, from the horse’s mouth!

Uh uh....I beg to differ!  While realistically there are hatreds on both sides of the color camp, let's face it, all over from most races, blacks, whites, latinos, native american, asian (did I leave anyone out?), there are dispicable feelings for each other, with valid reasons for those who do the 'hatin', just because a few might feel that way, doesn't make it the same for everyone!

Why is it that we must all sink to the same level as that one person who seeks to continuously and constantly divide us?  Sure there are dislikes, OK hate even, the reasons as I said before are varied and justifiable.  But we will never make any progress, we will never stand a chance at becoming the great nation that we can be, that we are, as long as there are the few amongst us who continue to fan the flame of racism.

Sure there are many amongst us who felt this way, but there are so many more of us who no longer do.  And while I can’t blame the harried display of some in the congregation who jumped and danced to what was being said by their pastor to his congregation, because so many are still feeling the backlash of disenfranchisement, many still have the attitudes of entitlement, many still feel the unfairness that are meted out to them just because of the color of their skins, so many still can’t seem to find their way out of their realities!  So here they have a White man who knows what and how they feel, and agrees with how they feel, how else are they going to react?  And while I can’t speak for any of the congregation, I can say their may have been a few who were cringing in their seats!

It isn’t fair for the media and others to use this as another reason why most Black Americans deserves to be in the seat they are in!  It also isn’t fair to use this to judge Obama.

There are moments of despair that I see everyday in other people, and some of the despair that I feel when I see how someone will be treated differently because they are what they are and who they are.  When will that end?  At this rate and by this story going the rounds again, and the slaps on the backs and the ‘I told you so’ quips and attitudes, NEVER!  And that is the sad truth for us as a country! And one that I really would hate to see happen!

I was going to say something on Moderateman's blog but then saw this from you.  I agree with you completely.  Hate isn't restricted to a single race or colour.  It is world-wide and manifests itself in many ways.

It is so sad that some use it to justify their petty concerns, just as this idiot from the Trinity Church seems to be doing.  What is even sadder is there are those who support his racist statements.  When are people going to learn?

I'll have to seek out his blog for his p.o.v!

No it isn't restricted. It is all over and it is done by everyone, unfortunately!  We continually cut off our noses to spite our faces.  While I can appreciate the reasons, and I can also look at it from the "Whites" p.o. v., because believe me, I do understand their reasoning, when there is the constant scenarios like this.  Which somehow validates the feelings.  However, it is such a battle field so to speak, two wrongs don't make a right and the good, decent people amongst us suffer for the disgusting behaviour of the few!

Donna for President! (Seriously, you are better than any we have running this year).

I will disagree slightly with you. Pflegger is not a reverse racist, he is just a racist. There is no reverse racism. It can be and is practiced by blacks, asians, hispanics, polynesians and whites against blacks, asians, hispanics, polynesians and whites.

Obama made one mistake. He did not live his life as he was running for president. That is a mistake that many make, as most do not open their natal eyes and say "I am going to be president". Wright is basking in his 15 minutes! Fame is heady and as we see in hollywood, makes people act like idiots. Wright is a very charismatic person. I doubt he believes half the stuff that flows from his mouth, but when the spotlight is on you, and you are on a roll, you dont stop to check the gramatics. Unfortunately, when we forget what we are doing to bask in the moment, we can (and in his case did) cause damage.

I make fun of Obama because I do not like his voting record (I do not know the man). He may make a good president, but not one that I will agree with. When he started, I saw a young idealistic man. I now see just another opportunist. But then I would not expect anyone to survive the primary process with their ideals intact.

Obama's biggest mistake was in playing the race card. He had the opportunity to portray himself as the all man - he is half caucasian and half black after all (and his lineage is readily apparent while the lineage of race hucksters like Jackson, Sharpton and Farakhan are more buried in history - but no less mixed). But instead he fell into the Clinton trap and instead of being the "all man" he used his half race as a club to beat back the negative campaigning that is always a part of the process. If he had faced it square on and declared himself the candidate for all, not the black candidate, he would not be in this position now.

And it is just going to get worse.

The Pflegger thing cracks me up. If I were black I'd be offended that he put on his best street "African American" accent during his sermon. I guess if people like the message, they are willing over look the delivery method. If Bush went to New Orleans after Katrina and said, "We's be here to hep ya's wif you cribs", I'm sure it would have been mentioned. (slightly exagerated and no offense if that is how you are able to communicate).

I'm with LW, I can't understand why someone that disagrees with the rant would attend for 20 years. Maybe he disagreed but wanted the votes before becoming Senator, but what does that say about the man? You can't have it both ways. As much as I disagree with Al and Jesse, I can respect them for at least being straight up about where they are coming from. I wonder if the Iowa primary were held today if the result would be the same?

Sorry my friend, far too many of Obama's 'closest' friends and influences have shown their ugly racist faces by now for us to believe that despite his VERY close associations with these people he's not a racist too.

I guess he had the wrong friends, and he is now realising that!lol.

I will tell you from experience, of some of my friends, how they think that is, and though I can't and am not speaking for Obama, I'll tell you what might be behind the way he is, in my opinion.

I have friends and relatives who may not be super wealthy but they have worked their way up there, have their businesses, etc., they look at things in black and white, what is not being done for the black race, what hasn't been done for the black race and what will never be done for the black race.

They speak about the things that have been taken away and denied.  They look at the Republicans and see a group that will never look at things from their p.o.v. unless they (the Republicans ) want something, like their votes.  The promises made are never fulfilled.  They are skeptical of what goes on in Politics and yes, who isn't?!  They too are aware of the group that are lazy, good for nothings that makes it even harder for all black folks and have everyone of other races lumps us all into one basket.  While they may not agree 100 percent with how this pastor speaks, they do understand what he's saying and where all that is coming from.  And they will agree because it is what all of us have experienced in our lives.

But they do know that making life better for everyone doesn't include acting and talking this way because it gets us all no where.  And also, too many of us have sit for years and do nothing, they hear the talks, know right from wrong, but do nothing because they are possibly outnumbered because of the many who feel justified in their disillusionment.

Perhaps, Obama was in this category and got his wake up call when he began to run for the Presidency!  It takes a while, but some of us do realise and try to make a difference. Perhaps this is where his change come in, because he himself realise that there has to be changes within.

The man is a crock of shit, period. And a weak one at that.

Aren't they all though?  Politicians in general!  I'm sure he realises what a shithead he is and is making the changes within to not be the shithead that you and others see him to be. Hence the exit from his church!

Pflegger is not a reverse racist, he is just a racist

I stand corrected!lol!

Obama made one mistake. He did not live his life as he was running for president. That is a mistake that many make, as most do not open their natal eyes and say "I am going to be president

I agree with you!  It seemingly is a learning curve for him, (dare I ponder that) and it is why he realises that "no this isn't a good thing and never has been" and so takes a step back from what he knows is wrong.

I make fun of Obama because I do not like his voting record (I do not know the man). He may make a good president, but not one that I will agree with. When he started, I saw a young idealistic man. I now see just another opportunist. But then I would not expect anyone to survive the primary process with their ideals intact.

By all means, you and  a whole lot of others!lol!  They do it to Clinton and possibly less to McKain, his military status makes him less open for ridicule (so it seems to me).

Donna for President! (Seriously, you are better than any we have running this year).

LOL!  Hmmm, now that's a ticket to behold! I would have to line up the lot of you to help me run!

If I were black I'd be offended that he put on his best street "African American" accent during his sermon

It was amusing to watch, sickeningly amusing!  He was a riot!  I think we Americans get shocked too easily!  We perhaps need to take a step back, slap a few people upside the head, then take another look and have a good laugh!  That goes for everytime there's a situation like this pertaining to the mocking of both races, open forum, gloves off, no one allowed to get offended!

[quote]"We's be here to hep ya's wif you cribs", I'm sure it would have been mentioned. (slightly exagerated and no offense if that is how you are able to communicate).

Have you ever heard me speak? LOL!  You would be surprised!  See my writing pattern!

LOL, well your doing something right, I can understand you easily enough. The way we all speak is fine, just when you know someone is forcing an accent to empathize with their audience. If it's a comedy routine, that's one thing (just don't be the white guy doing it at the Apollo, lol), but there aren't too many other venues I think it would be appropriate. Maybe some others enjoy it, might just be me.

I hear ya!

In a good audience with the right comedian (no matter what color) if he knows how to throw down, the laughs will be there!  We all need to laugh at ourselves from time to time. Fuck PC and Fuck all those people who continuously get in the way progress because they can't get over themselves!  (excuse my Ffffrench!)  I will say however, it's not what is said, it is how it is said, and how the delivery is done to make it palatable and acceptable to the audience it is thrown at!
