Summer is here and there will be a few jaunts to the local pool, swimming hole or the beach.  I thought this information is good for those who don't know about it, to be aware of!

The boy in the story died after going to the swimming pool with his mom.  He had water in his lungs, he complained of being tired, was not alert, went to sleep and died in his sleep!

My alert sign would have been why did he have an accident in the pool, because that is not normal, but I'm not placing the blame on her.  It is a sad thing to have happened and I'm glad they wrote this article because I had no idea that someone could die like this!

Being aware is a good thing!

My dad, The Chief, was a Navy diver for most of his career. He used to tell me that it only took a couple of tablespoons of water to drown a person. I always figured he knew more than me, but I never believed it. Turns out he was right.

Thanks for the info, it is good to be informed.

I never knew either. There is a reason the old are so much wiser. What sounds like rantings are often just wisdom.

Growing up in Germany, AFN had all kinds of PSA on the air.  One of the ones that has stuck with me over the years was relatively simple.  It had several M113 and jeeps crossing a stream in a forest with the usual martial music playing in the background.  The voice over talked about the number of people who drown every year.  The clip ends with the picture of a teaspoon filled with water and the phrase "Remember, you can drown in as little as a teaspoon of water."

Scary stuff.

Lots of stuff have been coming back to slap me in the face to remind me how blessed I am to still have my daughter with me.  She almost drowned a couple years back.  This article about the boy dry drowning was just the latest.  I was watching Steven Curtis Chapman's "Cinderella" video (about a father who's daughter wants him to take time with her to practice dancing at various stages of her life) and thinking about the recent death of his youngest daughter.  My poor little girl didn't understand why Daddy was crying and trying to hug her to death.

Wow!  He's right when you really think about it!

Yes, they know what they are talking about!

Oh so sad.  I empathise as well.
