you think I would know this!

My son likes to drink energy drinks. I never thought it would be a bad thing, he drank the Arizona brand. They make great iced tea, I even looked at the ingredients of the energy drink. So it had corn and fructose syrup for taste, but I didn't think one drink a day would do any wrong.

I came across this article that I linked above, apparently Energy drinkds may put teens at risk, and some of them have!

They are considered bad because of the use of them makes teens more frisky, or take more risks?!  They act in unusual ways, are more excitable and may possibly do drugs, take pot, have risky sex?  THEY have got to be kidding me!

My son doesn't do anything like that, doesn't nor hasn't exibit any kind of abnormal behaviour, so I was rather surprised at reading that!   So I do monitor his intake and his behaviour, I always do anyway!  But apparently a lot of kids have gotten ill or have done things that have been because of their Energy drink intake!

The drinks named in the article are not what he drinks, but I'm not letting him have anymore. I showed him the article which he read, and now we're aware of the consequences of what might happen because kids are not supposed to drink them!  He's not too happy because he did enjoy it, but it's best to be safe than sorry.

I think this is another hocum-scarem issue - the ones where we are all going to die tomorrow. Stupid.

I dont necessarily agree that kids need them (after all, they have a hell of a lot more energy than the parents do!), but one a day is not going to make them become Mr. Hyde. Too many can screw up things like any abuse of a good thing (the rush and all). But one a day?

If you can keep up, more power to you!

I am curious about 1 thing though Forever, you didn't mention any concern over this but could you tell me why your son would need to drink "Energy" drinks at all? (I am assuming he is young and not an older person who needs the extra boost) I mean, that's kinda like taking a cold medicine for a cold you don't have. I figured these drinks were created and advertised with the purpose of needing the extra energy for, say, sports,a long day at work, going out at night to party and like in some commercials to stay up playing online games till late. But why a child would drink them just to drink them I do not get. My son likes Gatorade but I don't let him drink it all the time because that is basically designed to help put back the energy and liquids on loses while doing some kind of physical activity, which while he does a lot of, does not do enough to merit the need to drink it all the time.

Energy drinks aren't good for anyone.

Get some water, people.

Sports drinks are useful after physical activity. Energy drinks are only "good" (they do do damage, though) if you need to stay working for a long period of time to meet a deadline (once you're over 25, don't try it in school!).

Indeed!

He likes it, they are mostly citrus flavored, the one he drinks and he drinks one every other day, used to.  I didn't let him drink it everyday.  I did become concerned before reading this article that is why I didn't let him drink one everyday.    He's a naturally hyper kid, 13 years old.  Did it give him an energy boost, yes.  Did I mind that, nope, because it keeps him alert in school.   There was no downer, and it didn't affect his habits that I saw.  However, I knew he wasn't getting enough sleep, and I became concern that he might have been subsituting it for lack of sleep.  So I had a talk with him and reiterated how important sleep was for his growing body, etc, etc, etc.  But I did let him drink it no more than three times a week. Now not anymore.

Yes, absolutely!  I have stressed to him that it is important to drink water.  He doesn't really like water that much.

Agreed!
