I still go to the library.  It's one of my favorite things to do.  My boys like to go though.  There are still some fun things that don't plug in.

I am lucky. My library just happens to be at the end of my block so I let my 8 year old go by himself now to check out a book. He loves it and it makes him read. I hope libraries don't go anywhere.

Gah, now that you mention it, I can't remember when it was the last time it was I went to the library! I gotta go now for sure!

  That's one great thing about my library.  They just insituted a system that emails reminders of your due dates.  That has helped me tremendously.  That two weeks goes faster than you realize.  Plus I can renew them at home on my computer so the fines have gone down considerably.  Not that they were ever a huge amount but it doesn't take long for 15 cents a day to add up if you check out a lot of books. 

When I was first starting out, we went to the library all the time.  it was an easy and cheap way to read books.  Now that I am older, and have some money, I like to buy my books so that I can have them - my own liberary so to speak.

But libraries serve another purpose (other that for those with little or no money to buy).  They allow you to sample.  IN this day and age, many can get that on the internet, but still not totally (Amazonn has a preview for most of the books).

As long as people love to read, there will be libraries.  And when you find the book you really love, you can always buy it.

Oh they do that here too. I love the fact that I can go on line and renew everything we borrow. But they also don't let you keep some things.  Then you have to make sure it is back on that date or else.lol!  They are pretty flexible here at the same time that they are sticklers for their feels. 

 

I love the library.  When I lived in Osaka, the Central Library had a fairly good selection of English books and one of the classes I taught was at the same station.  LOVELY!

I haven't figured out the library in Tokyo.  My local branch is quite nice but no English books.  I went to the Central Library in Tokyo.    It's one of those libraries where there were more books in the stacks in back and to get them you had to fill out a form.  Quite a few English books though.  Not so much for light reading.    It's not much of a hang out place.

Libraries in Calgary rock.  They have a great public library system.

I'm lucky enough now that I can get some books from the schools I'm subbing in.  Good thing I like children's lit.

Best library I have EVER seen was at a public elementary school in North Vancouver.  I forget the name of the school.  The librarian had good selection of books but also an incredible collection of just about everything.  It was like a combination, library, old-style study, museum.  It was the kind of place that would really fuel a child's imagination (or an adult, because it did for me).

 

That is great!  I like it when a library is like that!

I'm not much of a reader of books so the Library will be the least likely place to find me, even with the DVDs. My kids are a bit like me in that sense, but they are getting more interested in reading. I just never liked it. I go only when necessary to be honest, mostly for the internet and sometimes for the DVDs for the kids.

Toni and I go to the library lots.  Toni is a voracious reader and usually goes through three or four novels a week.  If we had to buy books instead of using a library, our house would be very crowded indeed. 

I love the library for all the interesting reference books it has that I'd never think to buy myself.  Our local also has a very good collection of poetry, which I'm ever-so-slowly working my way through.
