I keep hearing people referring to the outcome of this election as the biggest effect because of race.  It is not just because of the Black votes, although that helped, but let us not forget that the Black race is no longer the top minority in this country, in terms of numbers, even today.  It is also not because of the so called "White consience", though many like to believe this.

Let us also not forget that the real reason the Republicans didn't have a sweep is because of what has gone on in the past eight years, especially this last year!

How can it be forgotten the battle cry against the Latinos earlier this year?

How about the housing market and what was allowed to go on because of the lenders who decide they can make quick, easy money from those people who can't afford the homes they dream of and that they didn't deserve?  The rest of the people who worked hard for what they have, have suffered the consequences of this greed!

How about the  financial markets?  So many people have lost so much!

How about jobs?  So many have lost their jobs.

While so many who are against the Democrats are predicting the end of our country, the downfall of the US...let us give this man a chance to do what he can to repair the damages that has been done in the last eight years!

It won't be easy.  Many will expect Barack Obama to fail and will gleefully rejoice if he does.  There will be finger pointings of "I told you so"...it has already begun....the writing is on the wall for a lot will change.  Even for this very site, as I've read.  So be it.

While the fact that the person who will hold the highest office in our land will be a person of color, it is unbelievable that anyone would think no one wouldn't be proud of that?!

However, when the people are unhappy, there will be a call for change.  They were taken for granted. And they showed their disatisfaction!

The race was won because the people have spoken!

I think the losing side does this every election cycle.

I guess that is true!  One is allowed to wallow and whine, then it is back to the grindstone! Our economy will need a lot of work!

??? how do you know these folks dont work hard? You think they just grab derelicts off the street? I know for a fact many good hard working people got screwed by unscrupulous lending practices and lost their homes.

Our first Agent tried to BS us in to getting a loan that varied on current rates as they went up and down, then tried to get us to go for a loan with balloon style payments. Sure we could have made the $3000 a month initial payments but when the loan hit the mark in 2 years we too would have defaulted at over $5000 a month. Fortunately my mom was a real estate agent and had taught us about such things before her death.. so we knew to drop him and find a new agent..

I guess working in construction 28 years, and making a decent wage at it, that if I had actually been suckered in by unscrupulous Realestate agents and loan officers.., I too would have not deserved a house by your standards as I havent worked hard enough to deserve one?

Glad it's over. Congrats to Obama. But here's a observation relating to the article. I live in a precinct that is probably 90% black. When I voted yesterday between 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM I was in a line of about 500 -600 people. At any given time I could count the white faces I saw on one or two hands (that may have changed later in the day when people got off work). Now if Bush was soooo terrible why didn't the black community get out the vote when Kerry was running in 2004? Do you need to be black (or at least half) to get respect from blacks? Or do the issues really not matter, it's what's on the outside? Actions would suggest it was OK to live under the "traumatic" Republican years (forgetting of course the Democrats held congress the last 2 years) until now, when Bush was leaving office anyway (although the Obama campaign seemed to have him running again).

My views might be skewed a bit since every four years (except 2004 when I was going to school full-time) the question seem to be asked if you are better off than four years earlier. That answer for me is yes, no matter what administration was in the white house beginning with Carter. Sure some years were better than others, but it was always positive growth. Not bragging, but people with skills will always do better on average. But the observation is why don't the people that claim they are worse off because the president destroyed the economy, continuously put the person they want into office? Makes you wonder.

You need to go back and re-read what I said and then you will realise this is exactly what I'm talking about! I'm not accusing anyone of not working hard, I'm saying some people, read, some people, got into th ehouses they couldn't afford becuase of the dreams they had, and the predators were there to get them because they, the borrowers, didn't know any better  You're lucky you had your mom, not a lot of people were that lucky, so count your blessings! And do read carefully before you accuse me of saying no one works hard for what they have!

As for the rest, I've had enough of the thrashing and all that, so no more election talk for me. It doesn't matter anymore because no amount of discussion will get you to see what I am saying or me to see the disillusions you feel because some people will not be happy either way.  I do feel sorry for him, becuase of people who just don't give a damn about anything than what they feel is right.

And on that note, I am happy he won and I will give him a chance to get it together and hopefully make this country proud! [e digicons]
