This one takes the cake, or make that the burger! Recently on Facebook, several people lost their friendship because of a burger!
Recently, Burger King ran a “Whopper Sacrifice” campaign. What is that you might wonder? The ever inventive and creative people at Burger King (and their advertising agency) offered a free burger to anyone on Facebook who would delete 10 of their friends on Facebook!
A free burger ended 234,000 friendships!! I guess a lot of people were hungry? Or maybe the offer of one of those juicy, succulent Whopper burgers, free, especially in these economic times, could not be resisted?! I mean, that might just have been free lunch for a day for about 2,3400 people! Amazing!
Of course, many people made this their reasoning, o excuse to get rid of people on their friends list who didn’t belong, or who they wanted to get rid of but didn’t know how? Crass, wouldn’t you say?
It sucks losing friendship in real life, much less on line! Imagine knowing that you’re friends with someone, and then all of a sudden, you’ve been tossed by the way side, online! It’s bad enough that that friend didn’t seem to hang out online with you anymore, but at least you were always on their list, albeit, under the radar. Oh the hunger pain!
Facebook didn’t appreciate how Burger King informed the people who were axed that they lost their online friendship because they were “dropped for a sandwich”! Facebook quickly put an end to it all!
Friends, until you’re deleted for a hamburger.
