Define Business Appropriate Attire

Matching skirt and jacket.
Shoe heels no more than two inches; there must be some heel, but no higher than the specified two inches.
Look professional not fashionable!
Your shoes MUST be the same color of your skirt
No ankle chains.
No over stuffed handbags.
No overload of rings

9. Absolutely no WHITE Heels!

So said the Bank of England to its female employees at a recent Dress for Success event...in a Mem.... addressed ONLY to the Female employees.

I definitely believe in dressing appropriately for whatever & however the business you are in dictates in its policies, however, telling the women, no overstuffed bags...and you mean they can't wear two piece skirt sets?

I guess they are providing uniforms, that would make things easier. I can't believe that they did not address the male employees too, how ancient of them!

I think each company sets its own standards. There are no hard and fast rules. But obviously the Bank of England has made their company standards easy to follow.

I wear a uniform polo shirt, blue jeans, and nice tennis shoes on my job. It's real comfortable!

I can't believe that they did not address the male employees too, how ancient of them!

It's probably because male business appropriate attire is already a uniform.

Black shoes, suit (preferably navy or charcoal), tie, button up shirt. From the women I've worked with, most just wear whatever they feel like. As a working man I feel oppressed every day that I have to wear a suit and tie and women can cavort around in basic 'good' clothes. Of course, I'd be happy enough if men didn't have to wear ties any more.

Yay for this company and their bold stance on gender equality!

Yep, very stringent rules. Though I wonder why they had to put the no ankle chains rule in?

I think you guys have it easy no matter what clothing you wear! Women always have to choose if they don't have uniform, what to wear that will be appriate and not make them look skanky or slutty or like grandma! So I guess that's why women will always have to wonder what to wear, because they are either going to dull their self esteem or heighten it.
