…what…where?

I’ve always thought about heaven. What it is and where it is, at least where I think it is. I’m a Christian by faith. I believe in God the father, Jesus the son and the Holy Spirits. I practice my faith, in that I read my bible, pray, and live my life honestly. I help others, pray with and for others, share my faith and beliefs with others. I do not however, impose my beliefs or my opinions on others. I do not try to convince them to change their opinions to my way of thinking. It is after all their opinions and beliefs.

This morning while getting ready for work I had the television on as usual on Good Morning America and they were talking about the death of Pope John Paul II (May he rest in peace). They mentioned that a lot of people would say that he is going to heaven; or his soul will be in heaven; or if anyone deserves to be in heaven it’s the Pope. Then they went around asking different people what their belief of heaven is, and/or where did they think heaven was? The answers were varied. Some said it was a garden; it was a place of peace; somewhere up in the sky; somewhere people go when they die.

That got me to reflect again wondering what is heaven and where do I think heaven is?

Heaven to me is the place where God promises us eternal life. Where, when I think about it, I get that unexplainable feeling inside, of joy, of well-being. Where I believe my mom and dad and all my loved ones are. Let’s face it, they were good people and didn’t do anything in their lifetime that would cause them to be elsewhere, so to me, they are in heaven. It’s the place where God lives. To me, heaven is right here on this earth. Except that we can’t see it, not until we die and our physical presence is not of this earth.

It’s like being in another place, where you are alive and well without the cumbrances that are of this earthly world. Where you will never get sick, never cry; never feel pain, where you will live the rest of your eternal life, living in peace, love and worshiping. This to me is heaven.

With that said, I also believe in reincarnation – in addition to the many times I’ve had that “déjà vu” feeling of having been someplace before, doing and saying something that is so familiar, as if I’ve done this, said this, saw this happened before. In my homeland, some children are called “old souls” because of how they behave, as if they’ve been here (on earth, in this life) before; and life after death – because our body may die, but our souls never do. The many experiences I’ve had, and the dreams that are sometimes too hard to explain. These are my own personal beliefs.

Some people may scoff and be skeptical in their reaction to my beliefs. Some may reason that as Christians (or believers), we have to think this way because this is how we comfort ourselves and this is what makes us feel good.

Perhaps they are correct. And then again, perhaps they’re not. Perhaps they think that way because it is what comforts them, it is what makes their world real to them and justifies their beliefs. To each is own.

I don’t let that bother me. I am what I am and I believe what I believe.

What, may I ask are your thoughts on this – what is heaven and where do you think it is?

" If... then... else..." is the logic behind all religious and mythological thoughts. But "If" is given a lot more importance than it deserves. Everyone has to reach at only one place(as usual it's NO WHERE AND NOW HERE) and the way, time to reach one there is not important because reaching there is far more important. You thought about Heaven and think that the God promises us an eternal life. He never promises anything to anyone because He acts! We never promise to ourselves about doing something, if we are sure enough that we are going to do that. And, as I am The God ( and so are You). I would not like to promise myself anything less than Moksha, Mukti, Param Anand! All the other things like demons, higher spirits (lords), spirits with some supernatural powers -say power over fire etc. are essentially have been created for just a social purpose. Social peace! Ignorants behave socially because of only such fears that they will reach the hell... blah blah blah... .There is only one God and He is NOWHERE and NOW HERE so think Your Self, think logically read some religious books but interprete it for Your Self. Read "Geeta" (Hindu's one of religious scripts) if You do not want to mess up with Vedanta! Do not consider an author's interpretation and You'll get peace of mind as well as the way to go, that is to reach to Your Soul ( The God). With Love- Aniruddha Thombre(imagineers7@yahoo.com)

After a gap of almost one year I was just surfing around and saw my own blog which I had totally forgotten about.
The comment passed to me I cant bear with it at all, cause I HATE pretending...

I speak only those things which I have realized. But Heaven I don't know whether you will reply or read this.

The thing I wanted to make clear is as follows:--
Be crystall clear and you will not have to bother about political nature of the world.
Everything is rationalized and can be.
Please note:- I am talking about RANDOMIZED RATIONALITY

Oh... I mistakenly mentioned that it is my blog..
Please, forgive me for that.

Gotta go with the preacherman here. In the "good book" it says, after death is judgment. There is no second chance to get it right. This is where we make our decision on where we want to spend eternity, that is, if you believe in the bible.

I think heaven is a place too awesome to describe. It's a place that no eye has seen or ear heard what God has in store for us. It's called the land of no mores. No more pain, no more crying, no more death etc. All this earth has and the beauty we see here will pale in comparison to this wonderful place. I'm looking forward to going on that trip....

Now, I believe in God(s). Christian buy upbringing, and my mixture of beliefs are my own to hold dear. I personally think that a heaven with nothing to do but praise would be rather bland and for some the choice would be given to be reincarnated. Why not? Some religions have held the belief that the chalice of God is where our souls are born, and that this chalice only holds so many souls, once depleted, the last child will be born signaling the Apocalypse. I don't think that anyone should be able to "correct" another persons beliefs and no book should dictate them either.

The bible is a remarkable historical document that, tends to be, over exaggerated. Many of the wonderful stories within have been blown out of proportion, but with a purpose, since then they become more memorable and easier to learn a lesson from.

I personally think that Heaven will be what we make of it when we get there, that no one persons heaven will ever be the same as someone else's, and that we are given a chance to come back, not for the purpose of trying again, or fixing mistakes, that's not possible to fix past mistakes as a different person in a different life. But it is possible to learn more and grow as a soul even more with every life lived, No 2 lives will ever be the same, so why couldn't you grow in this manner?

Foreverserenity, You hold YOUR believes dear to you, there are no rules that can dictate how you feel and what you believe, just because the bible don't say it, doesn't make it wrong to believe what you feel in your heart is truth. God created us like this, to question and put things into perspective, that perspective gives us the ability to treasure everything and live our lives to the fullest, with deep heartfelt relationships with everyone we love and care about. Never let anyone tell you that what you believe in your absolute heart of hearts is true, isn't. Be Christian, and believe what you feel is right. Make your own heaven right here, right now, don't worry about the afterlife till you get to it, You live your life right, You love right, you will get to your heaven.

So you're saying....believe whatever you want and it will be right? Wow. That sounds like heaven.

Truth is not what YOU make it. I may want to believe 2+2=6 if I want. But it doesn't make it so. I may tell you and believe that we all came from little green men that hatched eggs in the food our parents digested if I want to.

What you are saying here is that relativism is better than truth. Whatever is right for you must be right. Doesn't make it so.

There is a problem with your theory too though, Who is the one that can say, your God is the right one? Or that your way of worship is the right one? You Believe this is so, this is firmly embedded in you as the truth, You will fight me tooth and nail because this IS your truth. It's not mine. It's not shared by most of the people I know, and pastor has a hard time rejecting my arguments (we have had many long talks about it). We can't actually KNOW anything about the afterlife, it's not a tangible thing (unlike math) so in that there is no reality to bend to my will.

And yes, when it comes to your believes, that is right, because there is not a single person on this planet that will ever be able to say for 100% positive and be able to convince the population. Ever consider that maybe Christians are wrong and we should all be following Buddha? I doubt you have, buy they doubt Christians, does that mean they are all wrong or just different. Could it be they are worshiping the same God, just with a different name? Same could be said for the Koran and other Religious texts. The followers all firmly believe that this is the God that will save them. Come to think of it, wouldn't all Christians be wrong? Since Jesus was a Jew, shouldn't we all be Jewish? Believe as Jesus believed. Hmm.

Anyhow, no person can or should try to force their personal beliefs on another. The bible it's self talks about reincarnation, Jesus was. It even expands it to say that we will be again, but it don't say if we may be reincarnated several times before judgment finally comes. We could have be reincarnated several or even hundred times before God decides to make his final judgement... who knows for sure?

The bible it's self talks about reincarnation,

where?

Who is the one that can say, your God is the right one?

Jesus did when he walked this earth. None of the others you mentioned ever said they were God.

Since Jesus was a Jew, shouldn't we all be Jewish?

Spiritually all Christians are. It says we are grafted or adopted into the Jewish rooted tree of Abraham.

Ever consider that maybe Christians are wrong and we should all be following Buddha?

Buddah never claimed to be able to save us. Jesus did. Have you ever considered that maybe christians are right?

It's not shared by most of the people I know, and pastor has a hard time rejecting my arguments

I agree here. Does he really have a hard time or is it that you just reject all that he says?

We could have be reincarnated several or even hundred times before God decides to make his final judgement... who knows for sure?

What are you basing this on?

Ok, I'm not here to debate this with you KFC. Serenity asked a question and though subtly, managed to get her beliefs bashed. If you like, write and article, drop me an invite and we can debate this there, but it's rude to slash into personal beliefs and detour her thread into this.

I'm sorry but you're still confusing to me. I read your words but you're not clear on what you're saying.

Oh... I mistakenly mentioned that it is my blog..
Please, forgive me for that.

Consider yourself forgiven.

KFC:
It's called the land of no mores. No more pain, no more crying, no more death etc.

Basically, what I said in my blog:

"It’s like being in another place, where you are alive and well without the cumbrances that are of this earthly world. Where you will never get sick, never cry; never feel pain, where you will live the rest of your eternal life, living in peace, love and worshiping. This to me is heaven."

Mslady, I agree with you!

The bible is a remarkable historical document that, tends to be, over exaggerated. Many of the wonderful stories within have been blown out of proportion, but with a purpose, since then they become more memorable and easier to learn a lesson from.

And with this statement too. I agree that the Bible as been re-written so many times it's difficult to distinguish what is true and what is not. However, this is because 'men' would understand and learn from it.

In several discussions that have gone on here at JU someone once commented that the original bible was found by the Catholics, i.e., the Romans back in the day, who then were the head of the church and they re-wrote it. Whose to say that they didn't write what they wanted people to believe? I think that this might have some truth to it. And before I get hate responses from Catholics, this is not a bash the Catholics comment. But just to state that in those days, A.D., the Church was in charge and people lived by their rules. Perhaps what the real Bible said was too much for people to handle. So it was written in terms most people would understand.

Thank you Mslady! And don't worry, I don't get swayed very easily.

Whatever is right for you must be right. Doesn't make it so.

And why shouldn't it be right for that person KFC? Whatever any one person believes is his/her own. It is not for you or me to tell them otherwise or to get them to change their minds. We can offer our opinions and inform them but we can not force them to believe what we do. This would be wrong!

We can't actually KNOW anything about the afterlife, it's not a tangible thing

This is true, we don't really know. We only think we know because of what we have been told and what we read. We can have our own ideas based on our beliefs.

Ever consider that maybe Christians are wrong and we should all be following Buddha?

Buddah never claimed to be able to save us. Jesus did.

True, the one sensible thing you've said thus far.

managed to get her beliefs bashed

Naw, my skin is thick! My beliefs are still firmly in place! Thank you though!

I must say I'm surprise this article got resurrected! Surprised but pleased! It was one I felt good about writing. Thank you for your input, it was enlightening! Some responses were not exactly the right ones, but enlightening just the same!
