Rude cell phone user!
Published on August 3, 2005 By foreverserenity In Misc
Some people are just so rude and have no telephone manners. Cell phones are very useful for emergency purposes, keeping in touch with home and other stuff like that. At least that’s what I use mine for. I have nothing against cell phones because I do own one.

However too many times people come into my offices for meetings and they absolutely have no manners! I have to wonder to myself if they don’t realize that they are being rude!

Here’s this jerk, er, man who came to my office to meet with my boss and he’s early and my boss is meeting with someone else and he decides to sit in my vicinity and make phone calls. One after the other in a loud voice, having his conversation! My irritated look doesn’t work! My getting up and walking away doesn’t work! My answering my phone and saying to the caller, "I’m sorry please repeat yourself I cannot hear you" doesn’t work!

Some people!

I carry a mobile phone for work. No, I'm not some high mucky-muck. I spend a lot of my day away from my desk but have to be contactable. A mobile phone makes perfect sense, in this case. I make very few calls on it, preferring to wait until I get back to my desk and relative privacy.

I've noticed that for a lot of mobile users, their voice volume increases according to the inappropriatness of where they are when making a call.

Cheers,

Is there a reason why you didnt politely say.."Excuse me, but I'm working here and I find your conversations distracting. Could you please step out into the hallway until your finish your phone calls?"

Its a shame that you'd have to, I agree. People with cell phones can be astoundingly rude. But unless he was some sort of corporate royalty, I'd have asked him to step out or end his calls.

I wanted to but yes, he was. You would think that being that HE would know better!
If he was some sort of corporate royalty, I think I'd have decided it was a great time for a little coffee break.

I couldn't because my counterpart was gone for a smoke break (for the gazillionth time!) and my student wasn't around to cover for me. Hence me sitting there and feeling vexed.

I understand, all our project managers do have to carry one because they're out in the field a lot.

This is it. The volume increases and it's terribly hard to hear when others speak to you because of that. I can understand him contacting his office to check on something and doing so low-keyed but he has a booming voice and then he made several calls not business related! All this done while sitting in my student's chair at her desk. (And he didnt' even ask my permission!) I guess it goes with the territory sometimes and I understand in some circumstances but some people are just too rude and inconsiderate!

People such as these are so mindlessly ignorant, you could glare, swear and throw things at them but unless you tell them directly what they are doing to annoy you, they won't have a clue.
