Life as I Know It; Family; Lifestyle; and Healthy Living!
I had my very first mammogram this morning…..my God I’m still reeling from it. The nurse was very nice and very helpful trying to make it go easy but I can’t begin to tell you how I felt.

First of all I forgot that I had this appointment scheduled more than four months ago...that’s how popular and how widely used the company who provide these services are and they also do X-rays and such so there’s a long waiting list hence being scheduled so far down the road.

They called to remind me and I left my office with my husband in tow (he drove me there). When we got there he made this comment, which knowing what a warped sense of humor he has and knowing how anxious I was, about not climaxing while having it done! I know, I told you he had a warped sense of humor! But it did the trick and had me giggling while walking into the building.

So finally after filling out and signing my life away and them taking copies of my identification I was led into a very small dressing room and told to disrobe from the waist up.

The nurse came back for me and in to the room with this big scary looking machine with arms and other accoutrements attached.

Let me tell you….I’ve never had anyone but my husband (and boyfriends in the past) feel up my breast like this nurse had to do! I mean we might as well have had a go at it right there on the floor or get a room!

So while she pulled and prodded and twisted and smooth my left breast, arm and stomach into place (thank God I shaved this morning and I’m not ticklish (at least not then!), I did my best to be patient and not totally freak out!

Then I was instructed to take a deep breath and not move while this big “ole” machine squished the life out of my breast! Oh my God….the pain….make it stop….nooooooooooo!

Then it was over….now for the side view….oh no….I’m gonna lose it….

I get prodded and twisted and plastered on the machine again which then squished my breast to smithereens and oh the agony!!!!!!!!!!

Now for the right side………oh Lord!

Then the same thing was done to my right breast!

I had to sit and wait for her to see if all the tissues were showing in the scan that was done before I could go get dressed.

Thank God that was over.

When I returned to the car my husband asked if I was thirsty..I said no and asked him why….yes another warped joke…..this time I won’t repeat it but he had me laughing so hard while trying to forget that my poor “babies” were so “manhandled”!

All jokes aside though is there not a better way of having a view of the tissues of your breast without having your breast splattered and you in pain? If a guy had to have this done to his penis I bet you there would be a better invention immediately! Geech….it will take another couple of hours before I recover from this one!

Ah yes, the wonderful mammogram....because I had a lump in my breast previously (got it removed) I have to have mammograms every year.

Getting your boob squashed flat between 2 plates is NOT my idea of a good time.

It's bad enough with 'all natural' boobs, can you imagne how it would be if you had implants? OUCH!

Guys would die before a penilgram!  That being said, why has not a woman invented a better procedure?  Why blame the guys?  Women can invent too!

I was thinking that a 'scrotogram' might be more like it.....

If you did to our uh huhs, as they do to your mammaries, no guys would survive the procedure!

I know it is not the same, but Guy, have you ever had a prostate exam by a doctor who wanted to be REALLY thurough?

I did.... not fun.

My wife's family has a slight history of Breast cancer. She got her boob-o-gram (our word for it) recently, all is well.

I'm sorry... your uh huhs have me on the floor!

We talked about that too...guys and their prostrate exams....that's great news for your wife. Mine is just preliminary since I recently turned 40. I'm waiting with bated breath for the results.

I was a little early for mine, but when I turned up anemic (giving blood), I had the doc check me out.  They found a pollyp, benign.  See?  Giving blood is good for you!

Wow, it certainly is. That's how I found out my iron was on the low side earlier this year.

Thanks Elie. Don't worry he'll play nice and um...take care of the "girls"!!

Ugh, i've never had one yet, but my internist mentioned just last week that I should have had my baseline done 4 years ago. (i didnt have insurance then)Im *not* looking forward to it.

I empathise when you do get it done. Just be prepared for the crushing of your "girls". That's what they did yesterday, baseline exam. Oy vey, I'd hate to see any that goes deeper!

LW, it's not so bad. it's a bit uncomfortable, but it's more embarrassing than painful. Some chick you don't know is mauling your tits around and clamping them down in a vice-like contraption.

Mine was painful because i had a big lump that they had to visualize (4cm mass; I got it removed...it was scar tissue from the seat belt had sheared off a big chunk of breast tissue when I had wrecked my Jeep). Yours shouldn't be that bad.

I agree it's definately uncomfortable and embarrassing! It is very uncomfortable cause those clamps really do have to squeeze to take a pic of your tissues. However Whip, it's most certainly important for you to do so don't let me turn you off it. It just was such an experience for me and one I'm glad I don't have to repeat anytime too soon!

P.S. : An update on my results which I received in the mail yesterday....Negative...no malignant tissues! Whew...I was relieved...I don't know why I was worrying but that's really good news. Possibly because I feel pain in my breasts from time to time. I don't know if anyone else experiences that. During my physicals this year, my doctor and gynocologist (they're different) both said feeling pain from time to time is ok. I was still worried though and now I can breathe!!!
