on dirt & grime....will it ever end?

How quickly the dirt and grime appears in your home no matter how often you clean. I don’t clean everyday. I’ll pick up the toys and other stuff littered throughout the apartment by my daughter after she’s gone to bed every night, seven days a week.

My oldest girl does the dishes Sunday to Thursday while I do them on the other nights. I do laundry once a week on Sundays, although my hubby washes every day, yes, everyday.

I clean every where once a week, vacuum carpet, clean bathroom (my older daughter takes care of the one they use), the kitchen, the floors, and dusting. We live in a four bed room home. I sometimes have to take it one room at a time. Gosh there’s so much clutter to get rid of! I won’t even venture to discuss the closet my mom used to use. I haven’t faced that yet.

But once a month I do a deep cleaning. I scrub from top to bottom, rearrange everything, toss anything I find that is out of place or is worn out, do what my mother called cob-webbing; that is running the broom or a long duster, from corner to corner on the ceiling of each room and in all the corners to get rid of those pesky cobwebs. I take every piece of picture frames and figurines I have and dust them.

Yet every week at the end of the week when the mad rush to get up and go to work and school is over, what do I find? You got it, dust, more dust and the messy stove in the kitchen (we cook almost everyday). The shower, kitchen, walls…the dust and grime builds up that quickly!

I’m seriously thinking about hiring a cleaning service to come in and do that deep clean once a month. Sometimes there are times when I want to spend an entire Saturday with my kids, having fun and doing things they love, (and sometimes I do) instead I take up most of the day cleaning and then we go to the library for one or two hours, sometimes three hours of what is left of the day and then we go grocery shopping. Unless we have something planned before hand like going to see a show or attending an event, then I won’t spend the entire day cleaning.

Yep, getting someone else to do that deep cleaning might just be worth it!

Before I was married, my sister, who moved in with me due to a separation between her and her husband did the cleaning.  I did not charge her anything for rent or such, and she took care of their food.  I got a real cheap house cleaner!  And she was good!

Our houses are hard to keep clean because, well basically, our bodies are such dirty things. Link

Did you know that most the dust in your house is human skin?

Great article! Funny how cleaning is much more fun to read about than to do! ;~D

Dust to dust.......they just did not tell us that we were going back before we died.

My wife and I recently discussed having a cleaner come in once a fortnight and do a thorough clean of our apartment. It is not that we're dirty or messy (in fact, my wife says I'm almost anal about clutter, dust etc, although I'm not sure where the line be 'almost anal' and anal' exists).

But as we're both busy people, what with my fulltime 9 to 5 job and the amount of time I spend on my music, coupled with the fact my wife works shifts that include after hours, overnights and weekends, there just doesn't seem to be a great deal of time left. A cleaner is a great idea.

I think that's a marvelous idea too Maso! That's why I'm contemplating it! Think about it...we can spend more time with our family if we do this. Especially since like your wife, my husband doesn't work a 9-5pm like I do!

I also get frustrated with cleaning all the time. It always seems like a good idea to do a one big "clean" about once a month, then you'd think that if you keep up with it once a week it won't ever get that dirty again. Wrong! No matter how thorough of a job I do on cleaning our tub, it seems it will start getting mildew in 2 weeks time! That is my least favorite houshold chore. I think weekends should be for relaxing and enjoying family and friends, not cleaning. If I could afford a housekeeper I would definitely hire one! Even if it just once a week...go for it! You sound a lot busier than me!

You're so right Jenny! No matter what you do or how much of the cleaning you get done, it seems in vain cause you have to go back over what you did already, especially the bath tub! I'm going to look into the cleaning lady thing, it would be a luxury to do really, adding that to our budget, but it might just be worth it, even if it was only once! Only because of a very active four year old and the other two keep me just as busy!
