Which is your favourite?
Published on April 21, 2006 By foreverserenity In TV Shows

I was watching the E network sometime ago and they did a program about “Chick Flicks”. It got me laughing and brought me back to remember my favourite one – Pretty Woman.

How can you tell a film as a “Chick Flick”? If you had to drag your husband or boyfriend to see it is top of my list! When I turn to one of these romantic comedy/drama on the television he groans and complains. Why do we have to watch that? Haven’t you seen it too many times already? It doesn’t matter how much he protests, I usually win Heehee….

Along with Pretty Woman I loved anything with Julia Roberts and also Hugh Grant – they’re usually romantic and fun to watch.

I also liked Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill……Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got her Groove back.

So which Chick Flicks do you like?

How can you guys tell when it’s a “Chick Flick”?

I love Steel Magnolias...dunno exactly why, but I do. I also love some of ther others that have already been mentioned: Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail, Muriel's Wedding, A League of Their Own, Like Water for Chocolate...and so forth.

Pride and Prejudice (from A&E), made me develop a crush on Colin Firth, btw.

Also, don't know if Sixteen Candles is considered a chick flick, but it's my favorite movie ever (so many memories with it).

If Casablanca is considered a 'chick flick' then that's my favorite. I also like 'It Happened One Night' and 'When Harry Met Sally'.

Some channel just did the 50 Best Chick Flicks of all-time. 'Beaches' was number one. I never seen that one.

At the risk of being kicked out of the guy club like Parated I not only seen 'Like Water For Chocolate' and "Fried Green Tomatoes" but I read the books.

Another chick flick I like to see a scene from is 'Dirty Dancing'. I crack up every time I see the "Nobody puts Baby in the corner" scene.

---I think the best one is Scent of a Woman. Robert Deniro.---

That is a good movie. It's Al Pacino though.

I always get them mixed up too! They each look like they should have the other's name.

Jenny:

I love Love Actually, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Just Like Heaven

Oh yes, Love Actually is good! And I did enjoy How to Lose a Guy. I haven't seen Just Like Heaven yet though!

Now, don't yell at me, ......but I have yet to see Pretty Woman or even Sleepless in Seattle! I get a lot of flak for this, but I think I was just too young when these were popular, and never got around to renting or catching them on T.V. yet, although I have been seeing Pretty Woman commercials on TBS lately Maybe I'll catch it this weekend.

Don't worry, I won't yell. Just get thee to the movie rental or tune in to see it on TBS. You're right, they have been showing Pretty Woman this weekend. They had back-to-back Julia Roberts movies.

Oh, and Bridget Jones' Diary!!

Oh yes, how could I forget this one!

Great categories Ted!!

Course my article on Chick Flicks got me forever banned from the guy club.... But if I remember right, got me an invite to sit with you... so who needs the guy club with an invite like that anyway. ;~D Link

Oh yes, you did do an article on this very topic didn't you? Now I remember! And you are still part of "our club" so don't worry, your seat has not been taken!

Reply By: LocamamaPosted: Friday, April 21, 2006Me it's musicals and costumes. I love Moulin Rouge, Chicago, Sense and Sensability, Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Dangerous Beauty, Amelie, Like Water for Chocolate, Chocolat, Dangerous Liasons. oh and I love Muriel's Wedding.

I like Musicals too Loca! ANd these are some great choices, I've seen them all. I especially liked Emma and Chocolat! Muriel's Wedding is a hoot especially the part when they dressed up and sang Abba songs, my fav scene!

I've never seen waiting to exhale or how stella got her groove back.

Oh you should rent those immediately and watch them. They both starred Angela Bassett (I probably spelt her last name wrong); She's a black actress who has been in some great films. The first one is a revenge type because her husband left her for another woman-for every woman that has been cheated on and scorned, that's the movie to watch! The second is about love between an older woman and a younger man. They met in Jamaica and it's really a nice story. It also starred Whoopi Goldberg. One of them is supposed to be semi-autobiographical, the writer's story.

I've seen some of these Icono. Working Girl I enjoyed a lot and Erin Brokovich. Practical Magic was with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, right? I liked that one!

But to answer Forever's question. Ok, how many people died? How much blood? What about the hero dying to save his love? Do any chick flicks have these ingredients? I think not. They are all about emotions and smooching and that stuff. As Henry says (sorry Dharma), "Why cant we just play catch?"Guy films are about cliffhangers and nail biting action! Chick flicks are about love and smooching and touchy feely. And no real man (other than Ted) would ever admit to liking them.

That's why Guy flicks will always be guy flicks with all the blood and the gore! Although some of us chicks do enjoy seeing those movies sometimes!

Hey, leave Ted alone, at least he has a 'feminine' side and there's nothing wrong with that!

Nope! Not me! I am still in the Guys club.

Uh uh....keep on telling yourself that Doc, we can read right through ya!!

The longest 2 hours of my life was getting dragged to see

Runaway Bride

She got pissed that about 20 minutes into it I just closed my eyes. I was pissed because neither death nor sleep would come to me while the eyes were closed.

She of course loved it and thought it was great.

Meg Ryan in You've Got Mail, Meg Ryan in Sleepless In Seattle, Erin Brockwich! gutsy woman!!

Yes, these are good movies and ones I did enjoy when I saw them! I've also seen them many times after that!

IslandGurl:
Anyhoo, my chick flicks, gee too many, anything with Drew Barrymore... 50 first dates, the Wedding Singer, Ever after... I also enjoyed Monster In Law with J.Lo, what else, mmmm, Heh, I'm a little girl at heart so I am alot into cartoon, do these count?? Great topic Serenity, I could be enumerating endlessly, lol!!

Em these are good choices too! 50 first dates was fun to watch and the Wedding Singer was funny and enjoyable too! You're right, anything with Drew Barrymore (and Adam Sandler) is good too! Hmm, cartoon, those are fine with me although they wouldn't be considered chick flicks!! I do enjoy watching cartoons though!

Maso,
Oh wait, I think it might have been Serendipity, but only because I like John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale.

Serendipity was fun! So romantic and quite enjoyable to watch!

I agree!

I have to go see the new Antonio Banderas one.

Ohh, that one looks like it's going to be fun, especially to see Banderas in those dance pants and watch him move! [swoon]

But alas, he doesn't know their torture so doesn't know to appreciate not seeing them.

! Tonya, that's amusing!

Pride and Prejudice (from A&E), made me develop a crush on Colin Firth, btw.

I like seeing him in movies too!

I dont' think it is either.

That was VH1 Chris. I saw it this past weekend. Beaches was a tearjerker for me.

At the risk of being kicked out of the guy club like Parated I not only seen 'Like Water For Chocolate' and "Fried Green Tomatoes" but I read the books

You're in good company!

It's Al Pacino though.I always get them mixed up too! They each look like they should have the other's name.

Ya know Chris, I didn't even realise that mistake.

Thanks for acknowledging that. Icono. I liked that movie a lot.

"Casablanca" is NOT a "Chick Flick", ted. It falls into a fifth (and very rare) category of movies that manage to convey a romantic theme without losing guy appeal. "The Princess Bride" is another illustrious example of this category.

And "A League of Their Own" a chick flick? I do NOT think so! It is a baseball movie! Baseball movies = automatically NOT a chick flick!

We stand corrected Gid! And you're right, A League of Their Own is NOT a chick flick!

I personally believe chick flicks are why we men get married. See, every time a chick flick comes up that we want to watch, we can pawn it off on our wives and not lose our sense of masculinity.

It also helps in the same way for shopping.

You are going to join Ted on the Banned Guy Club list if you keep giving away our secrets!

Hey! I was the only guy with the cajones to stand up and defend "Casablanca" as NOT a guy flick! Besides, as you and I BOTH know, I did not give away the most important reasons why we allow the presence of chick flicks!
