Which is your favourite?
Published on April 21, 2006 By foreverserenity In TV Shows

I was watching the E network sometime ago and they did a program about “Chick Flicks”. It got me laughing and brought me back to remember my favourite one – Pretty Woman.

How can you tell a film as a “Chick Flick”? If you had to drag your husband or boyfriend to see it is top of my list! When I turn to one of these romantic comedy/drama on the television he groans and complains. Why do we have to watch that? Haven’t you seen it too many times already? It doesn’t matter how much he protests, I usually win Heehee….

Along with Pretty Woman I loved anything with Julia Roberts and also Hugh Grant – they’re usually romantic and fun to watch.

I also liked Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill……Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got her Groove back.

So which Chick Flicks do you like?

How can you guys tell when it’s a “Chick Flick”?

Ok, now I think Gid is on to something......

When I said I hate chick flicks I mean movies like, Pretty Woman...runaway bride...stuff like that...

However, there are movies where women are the meat and I don't consider chick flicks....like League of Their Own..(though honestly I thought it was too long)...and even Gone With The Wind.

So I'd like to qualify my dislike of chick flicks by saying...if there is a decent story line...and its not a Cinderella story in disguise...then I "might" like it if its very well written and filmed well too.

Erin Brockovich (sp?) that was ok. I could live sitting through it two times.

Mostly I like movies like Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick, Lord of The Rings, Constantine, stuff like that...lots of attitude and physical drama..

I put GWTW in the "chick flick" category, personally. I could never sit through it.

And "A League of Their Own" a chick flick? I do NOT think so! It is a baseball movie! Baseball movies = automatically NOT a chick flick!

Oh, come on. It was about the Girls Baseball League. Girls were the stars and the heroes.

Sitting through a movie twice is always a good idea. If you like it as much the second time as you did the first, it's a good movie. Lots of times I record a movie the first time I watch it. When I play it back, I fast forward to the parts I enjoyed. That's not a very good movie.

I think you have it backwards. Gender transends sports.

A "chick flick" isn't just about the characters in a movie, info. It takes more than that. There needs to be a romantic element to it; that's really lacking in "A League of their own".

I didn't feel all the men were jerks. Sure, Hanks' character was a hardass, but it made it clear it wasn't because he was a jerk, but because he was wrestling with his own inner demons. And Jon Lovitz's character was almost comic relief, if you think about it.

Sorry I changed it on you, Gid.

24. Bull Durham (1988)

A League of Their Own isn't listed, but at least it shows that a baseball movie can be a chick flick.Link

Yeah! That is my rule of thumb...either up or down...if I can watch it twice...its was a good movie to me......

Chick flicks are Cinderella stories in disguise. I HATE those. So technically I don't consider Steel Magnolias a chick flick...but more of a "slice of life" movie, same with Fried Green Tomatoes.

But that's me.

Bill Pullman and Geena Davis, the not so attractive one who got married, and Madonna....well, lol.

I agree with Gid on this!

did not give away the most important reasons why we allow the presence of chick flicks!

Give it up Gid, we women want to know, just to see if we're right in what we think it is!LOL!

Mostly I like movies like Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick, Lord of The Rings, Constantine, stuff like that...lots of attitude and physical drama..

I like these movies too and they definately wouldn't be considered chick flicks - as you said, more meat and potatoes!hahaha

I agree with you Icono, especially most times I see things I don't remember seeing the first time around - which generally is the fault of one of my kids or the hubby!
