No More - STOP THE MADNESS!
Published on April 19, 2007 By foreverserenity In Blogging

I agree with Gene’s article Link the murderer who did what he did, was an insane psychopath, and should not be made into a hero!

I don’t want to see his pictures anymore. I don’t want to watch the videos, in fact, I haven’t watched it, I keep switching whenever it’s coming on. I don’t want my children to see it, although they are aware of what happened and I have no explanation to give them as to why someone would do something like what he did, other than to say he was an angry person who was mad at the world.

I don’t want to talk about what he did anymore. He was a maniac who alienated himself and I don’t want to know about how he lived, what he wrote and I certainly don’t want to examine why he did what he did!

While I’m very happy that they identified who did it, and while I’m glad that hopefully, his type of behavior if exhibited again by anyone, will hopefully be picked up on by those people around the person, I surely don’t want to examine the killers instincts and what was in his head. I do not want to analyze him!

The Media do us and the victims of this terrible act an injustice by continuing to show his face, his videos and talking about him, as if he’s some sort of super person!

Now that they all know, it’s time to focus on the victims and help them to heal. Now that they know about him, it’s time to get things into place that will make sure this doesn’t happen again! It’s always awful to have to learn from something like this. But they should stop trying to guess what the hell was going on in that maniacs head. Stop the madness now. Don’t show me anymore photos of him; don’t talk about him because he’s becoming famous. He’s as bad as those idiotic maniacs who strap bombs on themselves and go into a crowd of innocent people to blow themselves up.

He’s gotten the attention he needed, even after death. He was a coward and he did the cowardly act of killing himself.

I’ve tossed out all the papers that came home yesterday with his face all over it and I’m telling my children not to watch or listen to anything about him. This is not denial; this is not giving someone who did a cowardly act the time of day!

He is not a martyr, and he will not be made into a martyr by me and he shouldn't be made into one by you, the Media!

While we the citizens of this country appreciate knowing what's going on out there in our world, it's time for more responsibility on your part. Stop sensationalizing everything! Stop the madness now!

The media is largely to blame for these acts as they broadcast stuff like these videos which serve to only inspire other nut cases to commit similar acts. In the videos he actually praises the Columbine killers. If the media hadn't spent so much time profiling those two perhaps this nut case wouldn't have gotten the idea to do what he did.

They should not have broadcast this murder's videos. It's an irresponsible act in the name of ratings.

Ditto! They need to stop now and I don't understand why they don't see this!

A more prudent, but probably never will be done idea, would be to post a transcript.  The written word could be read by anyone who wanted to read it, without giving fame to the perpertrator.

I agree, and like you, will not listen to it, or look at his face.  I am sick of the glorification of the sick and evil in this world.

I agree with you 100%. There was a psychiatrist on GMA today who said it was a social catastrophe to release this video and keep airing it. I am including a link to the story. He said that showing this validates the killer. The killer was delusional and people who are already disturbed will watch it and be influenced. I think it should not have been released. I know there is a curiosity, the big why did this happen but it's time to focus on the victims not the perpetrator.

That is a better idea Doc! Or at least, once we know who and hopefully why, going over and over and over and trying to analyze the killer makes no sense!

Exactly Loca! And thanks for the link! He is right and I do hope that the news media do pay attention to this!

Ah well, the media thrive on sensationalism. Unfortunately there's little we can do about it except switch off!

Exactly, turn it off!

It's pathetic...the media did exactly what that son of a bitch wanted them to do...plaster his face all over the place to get his "message" out.

Idiots...the lot of them...

Idiots...the lot of them...

Accurate description.

on Apr 22, 2007
Sorry, I have to disagree with the 'idiots' description of the media. It is easy to tar everyone with the same brush, as lawyers, car salespersons and the police would know (there are plenty of other stereotypes too but can't think of 'em now). But the big bad media don't make these stories up, they simply report them. I don't like the idea of having this killer's photo and rubbish all over newspapers and television. Personally, I find it distasteful and disrepectful. But the story needs to be told to hopefully prevent something like this happening in the future.

While I'm at it, I also have to say my wife works in the media industry. Her sense of decency and what is right is a lot higher than most people I know (sure I'm biased but its true).

The story was told.  The fame that they bestowed on the murderer was not earned or merited.  And that is where the idiot description comes in.

Doc,

The 'fame', as you call it, is purely subjective. If those reading the reports think this murderer is 'famous' for being on the front page of newspapers and on television, then their idea of 'fame' is distorted.

My point, again, is that calling everyone in media 'idiots' is about as useful as calling everyone who watches sport 'jocks'. Neither description is true or right.

True, But qualifications are not always in vogue when writing a rant. There have already been some "copy cat" clowns who think they can get their 15 minutes of fame by bettering the death count. NBC, who decided to glorify this tragedy, is already hiding their ugly faces because no one is defending them (not even other members of the media) and most are just out right condemning them.

It would have been more accurate to say "in this case, NBC......", but the sad truth is that any network that got the footage would have probably played it the same way. That is not to say that everyone in every media outlet would have - but at least here, the cynicism is that any other network would have run with it, before realizing they were blithering idiots.

Well, applying this logic, would you be prepared to forgive anyone for making racist remarks while in full-rant mode? I know I wouldn't.

Blanket statements just don't cut it, in my books. I was not calling this out because I agreed or disagreed but because the blanketing.

Mark, the Media can be a bit over the edge at times. Yes, what they do is important, and I have always said that it is good that they are there doing what they do. However, ratings and being the first to 'break a story' is becoming too much a part of reporting the news.

Unfortunately, here in the US a lot of people equate being famous to getting their "fifteen minutes of fame" on the television, in the paper and on the airwaves. As long as they are or were the topic of discussion and focus for fifteen minutes, they are famous. Sad but true!
