Sometimes it saddens me, the hate and the distrusts that continues to separate us.  It is sometimes difficult to read some of the things that are said and to listen to what people say.

Things are said without realizing what is being said.  Do they understand what they are really talking about?  I guess not, otherwise it would not be said in the manner it is, and there would be a better coming together of the minds, not just a load of disparage thoughts.

Our world could be so much better so much more amazing if there were not so much hate and jealousy for each other.

What does it matter if one's skin is darker than the other?  Are we not all human, and important?

What do you tell the child that constantly sees and hears the negative things that are said about his kind?  Is it now wonder that he prefers to have light hair and blue eyes? Is it no wonder that each and every child chooses the lighter-skinned, fair-haired doll as the perfect thing to be?

What chance do they have, will they have in this society?  We all like to think that we are not haters, that we don't judge, but we do, sometimes without realizing it because it is such a part of our personalities.

When the people of this country can look at each other without seeing the colour of each others skin, without thought for what we are, but rather who we are, that is only when our country can be the great nation it is supposed to be.

We are a nation that is so wrapped up in race we cannot get the stench out of our clothing.  We might be walking around and living our lives, but we are still slaves and we are at the mercy of our hate.

FS, I love you but I hate these type of posts.  I think a specific thing had to have inspired it and I need to know what the specific thing is.  (Yes I said NEED - it will bug me - is she talking about Jesse Jackson?  Is she talking about the New Yorker cover?  Is she talking about something that happened in her personal life?)  Maybe it's just my issue but I would rather talk about the real issue instead of generalities.

Sorry you are feeling down about a situation, Donna. I, too, am curious as to what the reason is behind this article. It's up to you, of course, whether to reveal that or not.

I guess I was reading it as a plea that reminded me of Martin Luther King's speech. And I really liked it. But reading Locamama's post, I am sorry that you were hurt (if indeed that is what happened). It is unfortunate that we have to be reminded of the irratinal hate that man is capable of at times. We can only work to make sure the occurances are fewer and fewer in our lives and as time goes by.

I'm sorry for the generalities.  It is a culmination of things seen, heard, experienced.  It is out of frustration, not just at one but at all of us.  I feel sometimes as if we are moving backwards two steps, while moving forward one step, in essence we are getting no where.  I'm not sad emotionally, but it saddens me and I'm drain just by what is going on "out there", in our world, especially to our children, ALL of our children.  We fight amongst ourselves, the grownups, we put things out there, they learn from us, and they unfortunately repeat the same things, although there is hope for us becuase of them, we do weigh them down with our own politics of skin color.

Focus on the Good out there, Donna. If you don't it'll just beat you down.

I'm sorry this is all coming down on you Donna. Like Roy said, there is good out there. Besides you have a lot of friends here.

Don't be sorry. I just always think there is more to the story and wonder what it is. I think it's my own issue. I guess I'm just a nosy rosy.

That doll experiment broke my heart. It was so sad to hear those little black girls say that the black baby is "bad". You would think at some point we would be moving on and I suppose things have improved from a generation ago. That doesn't mean things still can't get a whole lot better.

I don't think we will ever see a time of total racial harmony FS.

I don't think we have it in us.

I agree with Roy.  Focus on the positives, on what you can change, then move on.

You guys are right, focussing on the positives and making changes where we can is the best thing and all that we can do.

((((Donna))))

You're such a wonderful person.  I agree with some others here; focus on the positives.  I get like you at times.  Sometimes its hard not to feel a little down about the way the world is.  But I do believe in humanity and do believe we'll be a better race, all round, one day.  I believe it will be mostly due to people such as yourself, too.

And you and the many here!

Thanks, I'm just trying it on.  I will probably try a few and then decide which I like best.

You should always remind yourself of what this country was built on .... (violence ... and slavery...!!!!).... it is its fate and that is the historical fact ....

It is good that we realize that ... and we are trying ... (yes we are trying) to overcome that .... but it will take another 50 or 100 years to totally eradicate that stench and overcome that history ...  for now .... just feel sorry not forurself but for those who can not get beyond the color and the religion and the gender and above all beyond their own stupidity.

That is the difference between those who hate the nation and those who see it as a shining example of what can be, not what was. We are not perfect (slavery), but the "violence" is due to the fact that the world is not made up of peaceful doves, but of all types of men. The country was not founded on violence. The colonists did not make war on England, they were given no choice. The colonist didnot want to originally want to become a free nation, only to have their grievances addressed by the crown. It was the crown that decided to meet petitions with force. And thus the war was begun.

I can see a lot in your statement about the mindset of those who want to destroy the US - not from without, but from within. They base their views on a flawed premise. It is said by many historians that only about 50% of the colonists supported the Colonial Army at the time. Of the other 50%, some moved back to europe after the war. The rest stayed and became the appologizers and haters of America today.

Oh, and for the record, I do not believe that our ancestors made our fate. WE make our fate with our decisions today. WE control our destiny, not some dead ancestors and their actions.
