You can use a candle, or er...feel your way around the loo!lol! You should turn the tv off too.  My family reluctantly observed this last year, they will be doing it again.....

It's 8:30 pm no matter where you are.

Only one small problem. The power plants don't produce electricity on-demand that way on a moments notice. So there turbines will still be running, using the same energy, and warming the planet (if you believe in that stuff).

But honestly, if you really want to put your money where your heart (or activism) is, take your home of the power grid completely. If enough people do it to justify taking a turbine or two off line that would be a real solution instead of a hypocritical hour without lights. Sort of like a vegetarian, animal rights person sporting leather shoes and matching purse.

fuck no! I pay an extra 1 cent per kwh to make it 100% wind. Conservation is bullshit; all that effort to reduce your consumption by a meager few percent.

Using good energy creates 0 pollution, and subsidizes the manufacting and through it the development of more green tech...

Although in retrospect, renewable is not green, its horrible for the environment. The greenest power tech in existance today is nuclear.

But you're not in lock step with the "right thinking" of these environmentally conscious liberals if you even whisper nuclear. It's not in line with their ideas so it is wrong to many of them.

Here's a recent example. A town in Washington state has it's lumber industry destroyed by environmentalists. The town is a shell of its former self, with the largest employer being the grocery store (the lumber yard employed 1200 workers). It's tough to get a job and many younger people just move away if they can. Some people can't afford to do that. Basically it's a town that paid a large amount of Federal, state, and local taxes now reduced into a burden to adequately maintain. Victory for the tree huggers, hurray.

Now this same town wants to demolish what is left of the lumber yard, a sizable piece of cleared property, and put up a windmill farm. Great!!! Some new (good) jobs at last. 100% in line with the presidents energy policy. A win for the town, a win for cleaner air, even a bonus win for the administration so far away.

Not so fast, the do gooders that put the kibosh on the lumber mill, well they are concerned birds and bats will be killed by the spinning turbine blades and are suing the town to stop plans for the wind farm. Sad fact is the group pushing the lawsuit are over two hours away, where jobs are a bit more plentiful. It's easy to make choices that do affect you own standard of living I guess.

I bring this up because many liberals either don't know what they really want, don't care about the impact to others, or are just unphased in the pursuit of their agenda. Why do the folks that demand the bulk of taxes go to social programs are same that people that aggressively destroy the source of those funds? I just can't wrap my brain around that.

I'm all for cleaner technologies, not because I believe in global warming (I don't), but because I know pollution is not healthy for plants and animals (which include us). Also because I'd like to see energy cost go down, not up. That last one is probably a pipe dream, because someone will always find a way to keep prices up to make money.

That is unusual, usually they PRETEND that wind turbines DON'T require clear cutting a largeR area of land, they pretend that they don't kill countless small animals, and they pretend that the damage from both is only a fraction of the "damage" of any other conventional power tech.

For them to admit that windfarms are harmful there has to be an ultirior motive, and there is, they want to crush the small town because "farm peoples" are "stupid, ignorant, hateful rednecks".

the earth is a giant chunk of iron covered in dirt, it is in no danger. life is extremely adaptable, it is not in danger.

Only humans are in potential danger. So its "save humanity" not "save earth"... and so far we are in no REAL danger. We should avoid polluting because it causes diseases in HUMANS who live in polluted areas, but that is not an issue if you use green power like nuclear.
