Do you get offended when I do this?

I just realized something that I do quite often without realizing it. I like to "break" people's names down. You know, say the shorter version or in essence create an acronym at times.
I do this and never thought of asking, "Hey, do you mind if I call you...?" You know because some people really are quite "touchy" about their names. Ok, I know it's not their real names but they still might be upset that I somehow alter it.
I just thought about this when I was responding to a new blogger, lemonlime, who was writing his (or her?) first blog about a much discussed topic around here....(music) Booger!

So, when I do this to you, let me assure you it's done with much affection and familiarity! It just shows I'm comfortable with you. And as for the personal names, hey, need I say more?

Floozie

Do what you will with my name! Please!
Being named Suzanne I have gone through all possible configurations of short, long and in between hand through the years. The ubiquitous Suz, Suzi, Suzi Q, Flooz, Floozie (hence the screen name), Pooz (thanks sis), Suzzle Woozle, Suzz (rhymes with fuzz), Suzz-muffin, Oozie, boozie, cruisy, Spewsy (saved for rare occassions of distinct over consumption of my favourite friend), Doozie, Suzi K, Cock (last name Koch - crappy parents!)... I could go on but I find finishing with a profanity tends to have the best effect.
I like when people play around with my name - only good friends tend to (unless they are annoying, lecherous bastards in the pub - then it just sucks!)
Happy birthday for the other day! Sorry I missed it.
Suz xxx (or whatever you want to call me!)

Hi foreverserenity
naw, I don't mind it if you shorten my alias!
My grama called me by a very sweet nickname, mom would use my full name when mad at me,
my ex abreviated my name, rather telling that was.....
very insightful of you to ask though!! and sensitive too
will you be my sister??
I sure would like to have a sister like you!

Sugar High Elf
on Apr 23, 2005
I get SHE a lot. At first, I didn't know who people were talking to! I felt so silly when I caught on. Sugar is a little strange, because it's such a pet name for people.
As for my real name, I HATE Jessie, though Jess or J is just fine with me. Not really sure why... just the way I am.

I just call you Phoenix! Um...I'm philomedy.
Philmody, a thousand pardons! How could I make such a big faux pas? I got my names mixed up this time! I meant to say Phil!
I don't mind at all.
Cool Raven!
I almost forgot my real name.. it's nice to see either elie MM or mod
Sometimes I forget my own too,
! Good to know.
so feel free to use it if you like.~Zoo
Thanks Zoo. I believe I have and I will.
(unless they are annoying, lecherous bastards in the pub - then it just sucks!)
I know exactly what you mean!
Happy birthday for the other day! Sorry I missed it.Suz xxx (or whatever you want to call me!)
Hey, you're not that far in thought. It was only yesterday, the 22nd and thanks! Suz it is, except for the times I call you Floozie!
mom would use my full name when mad at me
Mom's always do that when they're mad dont' they?
very insightful of you to ask though!! and sensitive too
It dawned on me that I did that sometimes use variations of people's name. I do see other fellow bloggers do it but not all the time. My variations tend to be either the acronym or some other part of that person's JU ID.
will you be my sister??I sure would like to have a sister like you!
Oh thank you Trudy! I'm honored!
I get SHE a lot
I believe I may by guilty of that where you're concerned too. And the "Sugar" part, guilty. My oldest daughter's name is Jessica and sometimes we call her Jessie, not often though. I prefer to call her Jess. So what will it be; Sugar or High Elf or?
As for me, FS - I admit once I saw this response and didnt' figure out it was me the person was talking to -
! So it happens to the best of us. Serenity or Forever is ok too.

ParaTed2k
on Apr 26, 2005
Well, I've been called Para, P2K, and for some reason beyond all logic.. .Ted ;~D. I can't remember who it was, or what they did with it, but someone resently twisted ParaTed2k into an insult for which I gave them Kudos for originality.
Either one work for me. The last time I remember being bugged by what people called me was in Jr. High. I had always been called "Teddy", and of course, Jr. High was when I got too big for my breaches, so I insisted on being called Ted. Funny, now that I'm 42, Teddy doesn't seem to bother me anymore (although only 2 or 3 people have ever called me that since the 70s). ;~D

I don't remember who or what myself, but I do remember reading your response to that one!
I like calling you Ted!
